Will Edge return next year?

The verdict is still out.  He has one more year on his contract and at this stage in his career, I would assume that he would be smart to finish his contract out.  Although he is Edge, can he be guaranteed a starting job for the next three or so years?  Maybe, but will it be with a contender (assuming the Cards are in the process of arriving).  This is what he had to say today.  If it doesn't work try this one.

What are your thoughts about it?

Will Edge be back next season?
Yes. He won't get this money anywhere else.

Yes. He'll get over this selfishness and play ball.

No. He knows this is the only way for the Cards to afford Q's extension. What a trooper.

No. He sees the writing on the wall. Its Timmy's position to lose next year.

Linky worked fine

Edge is posturing for a little more PT and some more running plays to get called. He’s still a capable back and his veteran savvy is worth a lot on a Cardinals team that isn’t used to success. Warner and Edge can help tremendously in the locker room as the season gets near the end.

Edge is perhaps also calling out his OL in a Portis-esque manner. It worked for Clinton, let’s hope it give Edge some results too and take the load off of Warner and the WRs.

As for next year, I think Edge will be gone thinking he has a chance on another team to be “da man”. With the trend of the NFL to have a RB committee, he’s likely to do himself no service by leaving. He’ll get his touches and his yards here.

We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

good point.

They are both from the U and have learned similar tactics I’m sure. He’d be smart to stay put though.

$5M is just too much

The Cards may offer him a paycut to stay, which i highly doubt Edge will accept. He will probably then be released early in the offseason, with a chance to be picked up elsewhere. TH combo’d with a speedy draftpick or JJ would probably be equally productive next season at a discounted rate.

I like that way you guys think.

I promised I wouldn’t talk about drafts for a few more months, but I don’t think he’ll be back. The writings on the wall, however as Hawkwind pointed out he is quality locker room leadership as the year goes by and the Cards position themselves for bigger and better things.

Final year of Edge

I’ve gotta agree with everyone as well. I’d bet the Cardinals would try to get him to agree to a lower salary and reduced role but he’ll never agree to that. I’d rather use his $5 on resigning current players, as others have said.

Edge is washed up!

He’s been a work horse and has way too many carries under his belt to still be the grinder like he was in Indy. I think Indy new it when they let him go, it’s just no one filled us in on the matter. Tim H. is good and I think he’ll be a guy to pound defenses for years to come, but as we’ve seen by other successful teams you need to have an effective 1-2 punch in the run game. Besides our RB, we won’t have a dominant running game until our O-line plays more aggressive.
Pass blocking is technique, where as run blocking is just in your face I’m going to bust your skull. I have not seen that from our group of guys. Sendlein is awesome at the C position because he has great down field awareness to get on LB’s. Center is the one spot across the line where your mostly comboing to LB’s so you don’t have to be a smasher. Our guards on the other hand are not bruisers and I see way too many stalemates between them and DT’s. In any combo block, minus going up against guys like Kevin Williams, the d-line should be 5 yards down field or better yet on their behind. I am in agreement with CG that they need to give E. Brown a shot, Lutui is not cutting it. I think Levi Brown was under the microscope for his pass protection but that is easily rendered and that dude is an awesome run blocker. I think he is the most physical lineman we have and that is something that can’t be taught.

One more thing to add...

I’m curious as to what Levi Brown would look like at guard? He would have to face speedy ends of which he’s struggled with and usually your guards are your strongest run blockers.
Just something I’ve kick around before.

that seems to be the trend now

This will have to be something that we revisit after the season, while we’re talking draft. It would seem to fit his skill set but who knows how quickly the coaching staff would pull the trigger on that.
