Antonio Smith and Darnell Dockett Rank in Top 10 in QB Hits
Football Outsiders has now added charting QB hits to their arsenal and I was surprised to find both Darnell Dockett (tied for 5th with 8) and Antonio Smith (tied for 7th with 7) in the top 10. Smith, who hasn't recorded a sack yet this year, already has more 'hits' than he had last year.

Smith is around the QB a lot
He’s recovered a number of fumbles this year for one thing (granted, a couple were negated from penalty/instant replay) and seems to have a hand up in the passing lanes. QB hits are in the “woulda, coulda, shoulda” catagory and aside from adding some wear and tear on the QB, don’t amount to much. Hopefully he can keep the energy up for the playoff push and get past the worn down lineman starting this week!

Not only physical wear & tear
but if a qb is getting hit quick & often, it has to screw with the his head as well. Particularly in younger or less experienced qb’s. This may cause a qb to rush their attempts a little more if they have been getting constant pressure and hits.

Bulger is prone to that.
