It Wasn't Pretty, But In The End, The Birds Win on Monday Night Football, Improve To 6-3

Your trusted leader cgolden will be back in the morning, but he asked me throw up a celebration post-game thread for immediate discussion about the craziness that just transpired on MNF. From never ending penalties to a suspect running game, to a poor pass defense at times, I guarantee that Coach Whisenhunt will have plenty to say to his 6-3 football team.

Previous Cards teams don't find ways to win that game though.

There's still a long way to go in the desert, but there's a change happening before our very eyes. Feels pretty good, no?

Full coverage forthcoming. For now, soak it in Cards fans. 4 games up with just 7 to go!

GO CARDS!

winning ugly

Finnally they pull off a victory when they didnt play well. They were pinalized more than usual and they still some how pulled off the victory. I would have liked for it to have been a statement game in which they won by a bunch of touchdowns but i guess i will take an ugly victory over a pretty loss

Ugly wins are a rarity for the Cards

Then again, wins period, have been a rarity for the Cards. 6-3. SCOREBOARD!

Wow what a game

There is so much to say and talk about. First off, the good:
-Warner looked great with no turnovers
-The big three receivers looked great
-Line protected well

The Ugly
-PENALTIES!!!. I think they had one in the first half, and I think 8 or 9 in the second
-No running game. They started off ok, they then gave up and stopped trying.
-Red Zone/3-1,4-1 play calling, why run it when you need something big? Do what works and throw the ball
-Defense overall. Lack of energy and just not playing smart at all. Im sure whiz will rip em a new one tomorrow.
-Rolle deserved that Pick-six. Sad because that may have put the game away.

I have much more respect for the Niners after this one. They played a great game and Singletary is making them tougher. Im sure I will rant tomorrow a lot more.

3rd and 24 call was odd

Draw to Hightower. A pass across the middle would have given the Cards a FG chance and could have saved my heart a lot of stress at the end of the game.

I liked what I saw out of Shaun Hill. His dive without the helmet was all determination.

question

not trying to jenx them or anything but if they win next week against the seahwaks wouldnt that mean they clinch the division

Take a look at the "Cardinals Making Most of Season" Fanpost on the right ----->

I believe we figured it was Week 14 at the earliest.

unheard of

for a team to clinch by thanksgiving, but its definitely looking that way!

Cards have to win on the road

After tonight, I’m not convinced Seattle will be a W on the road. Philly too. Losing in both places will put off the inevitable most likely, but leave us feeling more doubt than we’d like.

hawks are awful

i live up in seattle. seen them plenty. Yall can easily take care of them if you continue to play the run fairly well and just limit it to 1 or 2 turnovers max. They dont have enough play makers, or a QB to get them the ball to keep up woth your offense when its not shooting itself in the foot. Philly, tough game. Seahawks – very winnable. Like the Rams game the Cards took care of business in.

by Michael Bean on Nov 10, 2008 11:54 PM MST up reply actions

which means

Whisenhunt will have all sorts of decisions to make with regards to how to rest his team some, keep people in a rhtythm etc. Cant shut it down Dec 1st obviously, but losing warner for example late in the year would be devastating.

by Michael Bean on Nov 10, 2008 11:17 PM MST up reply actions

having warner really makes all the dif in the world

Protecting the football, keeping everybody calm, etc. The difference between him and Hill was remarkable. I think Warner can lead this team special places if the Cards could just cut out some of the boneheaded BS.

Whisenhunt should record his "don't draw penalties" speech and just replay it each week

You probably didnt see it but Dunce caused Levi to have a false start also.

All about the Penalties - almost

2 pick 6 negated by a penalties – crazy personal contact fouls, Dansby was particularly bad with his trying to knock the ball loose with the guy on the ground call.
When have you seen a team winning the turnover battle 3-0 and standing on their goal line at the end of the game needing that miracle Gore tripping on the turf to save the game. Our biggest tackle of the game was that pat on the back by Hayes.
Still if that bogus offensive pass interference call on Q had allowed us to get into FG range we could have been breathing easier at the end of the game. Maybe I could have even gotten to bed before 5 am.
Good news on the game – we have the best 1-2-3 WR combo in the league. KW is the most accurate QB in the league. Good combination there. We won and are 4 games clear with 7 games to go – nice.

well said

it wasn’t pretty and missed plenty of opportunities but bottom line, a Win is a win

by cgolden on Nov 11, 2008 3:24 AM MST up reply actions

Or was that Okeafor with the pat on the back?

Took a look at the Niners blog and they are complaining about the Refs big time.
The time they had a meeting, made a call for a penalty and then had another meeting and picked up the flag was crazy.
There were bad calls both ways as far as I remember.
The Wilson penalty on the Rolle INT was stupid – the Dockett one was forgivable as he had been getting quick jumps all day and just got caught by the hard count and it was deep in their territory.
So many talking points in this game!

yea i think it was Okeafor, Hayes pounced on him once he hit the ground

The refs did have some weird stuff going on, I can’t ever remember so many flags that were picked up. Part of me was saying, well at least they’re getting it right and part of me was saying geez quit huddling after every single play. I’m not sure which I like better, but there will probably be a full story coming on the officiating from the game (after I can watch it again).

Also does anyone know when the head of NFL officiating is on NFL Network? I’m sure they’ll talk about this game and I’d like to Tivo it.

They are complaining about the refs?!!?!?!?

I thought for sure they had all pooled their money and but in a bet on SF to win

I can understand Niner fans frustration with that last call on Gore but thats a rule. If a player is touched and goes down then they are down by contact. The int return by Rolle that was overturned was bull too. Wilson being offsides did nothing to affect that play.
