Talking Hawks
What's up Cards fans. I'll be around the next two days to answer questions about Seattle. Just a primer:
1. We're still recovering from the loss of Chris Gray.
2. I think Shaun Alexander is due for a rebound.
3. Real men don't talk injuries.
4. Man up is an effective game plan.
5. I too am sick of Tim Ruskell's fascination with gigantism.
Not covered in the above, fire away. Covered in the above, white space with black letters.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

QB question
I know you don’t want to talk injuries so I’ll try and avoid using the " I " word. I’ve been wondering more and more though, with Seattle slipping further in the standings, if they wouldn’t consider just shutting Hasselbeck down for the rest of the season. With hopes of a playoff berth fading each week, I wasn’t sure if him risking further injury to an ailing back was worth him playing in meaningless games. Was there any talk of that at all? Also with him creeping up there in age, is there any concern that this back problem will stick with him and hurt his productivity in future seasons or even shorten his career? Is QB on the ‘needs’ list in the upcoming draft?

The above was a joke
I’m not entirely certain where the shut Beck down thing originated, I’m assuming one source because the phrasing is always the same, but it’s unrealistic. Seattle has seven games left on their schedule including half their home games. They’re kind of duty bound to put their best team on the field at least until they’re statistically eliminated. I think he’s safe, and I think as-is, Hasselbeck is as likely or unlikely to be hurt as he is in any other game. At this point, there’s not too many injuries Hasselbeck could suffer that would endanger 2009 without effectively ending his career.
I don’t know enough about the specifics of his back injury to say anything with confidence. I don’t think it’s career threatening.
Seattle should draft a quarterback in 2009. They should have drafted a quarterback in 2008.

Which position from the Seahawks will have to dominate in order for them to win?
by Andrew602 on Nov 13, 2008 4:07 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
It would help a bunch if they could dominate Levi Brown
Because that’s one of the few positions they have some kind of advantage in and because they’re not likely to stop Arizona’s passing attack by locking down their receivers. I don’t think there’s one position Seattle has to dominate. A team can win an infinite number of ways, but it would help immensely if they generated rush from their defensive ends and that starts with Tapp.

Because you think Chris Farley is funny.
You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

Thanks for the lesson in what real men don't don't talk about!
Could you elaborate? What else don’t real men talk about, from your experiences? Tap, tap, tap, tap.(If you didn’t get it thats your foot in the bathroom stall at a Seahawks game.)

Wow
Boogatt, I saw you at the McCain concession rally; nice confederate flag tattoo and budweiser hat. Thanks for the hospitality cgolden, sorry your forum is infected with that sort of plague. Good luck on Sunday.

Woah woah, boogatt66 may be a bit of an ass
but stereotyping McCain fans, republicans, and I guess rednecks isn’t the way to go either.

Did you watch the concession rally?
People were screaming “Kill the _” and other obscene crap that McCain was largely embarrassed by, and even apologized for. I’m typically a republican voter, had no problems with McCain except for his hunting partner, and was born in Montana; rest assured I’m singling out those offenders at that specific event. The fact that the only insult he can hurl are homocentric comments based around Seattle being a more liberal/democratic area are just as stereotypical, and if that is the route chosen than I think he already chose my counter material for me.

Fair enough

I agree
If you want to call him a redneck or something, I’m okay with that. But lets try and leave politics out of this. D-bags and bigots come from the Dems and the Republicans.
Boogatt: you have a terrible name and your bathroom stall pictures aren’t funny.
cgolden: my apologies also for having to troll

on someones lame douchy comments, to being homaphobic, gay bashing, confederate, budwieser drinking, McCain supporting republicans.

Guys
I’m all for some banter back and forth on both sides but lets try and keep the talk to things on the field. There’s no use in getting personal.

So there's no inside joke going on here?
I just figured this was all good natured bantering. ::shrugs::
Are Seattle fans ready for Jim Mora the Younger or do you think the ’Hawks are selling themselves short of not having an open interview process, especially considering how the team nose-dived this year?
Does it irk the “12th Man” that your long-tenured Seahawk Jim Zorn is coaching for the Redskins?
Realignment has been kind to the Seahawks. Do you think the last six years would have been as kind to the ’Hawks if the American Football Conference was still home?
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

I think it was until...
Matt’s comment got misconstrued as gay bashing, when in all reality I think it was in reference to the “real men don’t talk injuries” remark seeming a little macho-esque.

Not really an irony guy, huh.
You’d think the other four would kind of clue you in.

The only season Seattle was gifted a playoff spot was 2006
Every other season they played like a playoff caliber team. They can’t help the quality of the NFC West and couldn’t be expected to do more than take care of business.
Many fans are irked by Zorn’s success, but I don’t understand it. No one expected Zorn to become a head coach so quickly. The decision was never Zorn or Mora. In any other circumstance, Zorn was a candidate for offensive coordinator, but the mess in DC created a unique opportunity. As a longtime time fan, I’m happy for Zorn. After week 1, I thought the guy was in over his head, but he’s done so much for Jason Campbell and that’s done so much for that franchise.
Mora is not the “strong” head coach that Whisenhunt is. Instead, Mora is a “soft” coach like Wade Phillips. Tim Ruskell will run the show, and Seattle’s success will depend on talent acquisition and the assistant coaches. We’ll see how that works.
by John Morgan on Nov 14, 2008 12:02 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
hmm
I didn’t know you guys were so down on Mora. Is he the DC right now and if so are there any hand-picked successors to take his spot? Is there any hope that he’s become a better coach under Holgrem than he was when he was in Atlanta (it was ATL right?)?
by cgolden on Nov 14, 2008 12:17 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I thought the Wade comparison would merit that response
I don’t think we are down on Mora. Well some are. What I mean is that Mora will not dictate personnel and philosophy like I assume Ken Whisenhunt does, instead I think Mora will be a smaller part of a system headed by management. That’s the way many even most baseball clubs are run. No one thinks Terry Francona is responsible for Boston’s success. Well some mook does. But football is a different beast, so this is a bit risky, a bit leading edge both good and bad. I’m interested and excited to see how it works.
by John Morgan on Nov 14, 2008 1:04 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
yea I interepreted the Wade reference as being down on him
I live in Dallas so I hear the Wade-hate every day. It hasn’t worked out well for Dallas but that’s probably as attributable to the character of player that they bring in than anything else.
