2009 Pro Bowl - AFC vs. The Washington Redskins?
In a nearly inconceivably laughable circumstance and brilliant campaigning by the Washington Redskins, 20 members of the 6-4 Washington Redskins are leading in fan voting for their respective positions for the Pro Bowl. The Redskins have had an aggressive Obama-styled get out the vote campaign that has led to the Redskins leading the NFC ballots in 16 of 19 positions, eight of the 11 NFC starters on both offense and defense would be Redskins, plus all four special teams players. Shawn Springs who has missed six games with injuries, is the leading vote-getter at cornerback...continued here

Good thing the fans vote is only 1/3 of the voting process.

What do you guys think of moving the Pro Bowl to the week between the Super Bowl and the Championship Games? Obviously it doesn’t address the fan voting issue but at least it might make the game more interesting.

Pro Bowl rosters tend to be full of SB bound players. With the Pro Bowl the weekend before the SB, all of those players will likely fore go participating for all the obvious reasons. Granted, most of the losing SB players don’t show up in Hawaii the following week but the week before would eliminate most if not all of the players.
Also the thought is having the Pro Bowl in the host city of the SB and eliminating Hawaii entirely from the equation. That’s a boon for the host city but likely not a boon to the players participating since part of the fun for them is taking the family to Hawaii. Taking the family to Indianapolis? No thanks.
Sadly, the Pro Bowl is no longer relevant. The risk outweighs the rewards in it’s current format. It may be better to have the game become a Spring exhibition played in Europe to foster the game abroad.

exactly -- no longer relevant
That’s the only game involving NFL players that I simply can not force myself to sit through. I wish they’d go to a strictly skills competition or fishing tournament or anything other than them going half speed with dummy rules.
I’d much rather see skills competition that included QB’s throwing for distance and accuracy and players running through obstacle courses, but that’s just me.

I've never liked the idea
Just for the fact that players from the Superbowl teams would most likely forfeit their spot. Though all would probably be happy to do so in such circumstances.

They need to make it more appealing to the players. Maybe mid season with some kind of stipulation. Thats a tough one though. I think there is a QB challenge each off season. Its pretty cool and I would like to see that in the Pro Bowl. I think McCown and Boldin were in it a few years ago.

An old format: College All-Stars vs. NFL All-stars
But rather than it be an squad of “pro-bowlers”, have it be a roster of 3rd year pros and younger. Kind of the “future NFL stars” vs. the “up and coming stars”. Play that game on Hall of Fame weekend.
