Arizona Cardinals Can Start the Countdown with Karlos Dansby
You know the old saying that you learn something new everyday? Well today I learned that the Arizona Cardinals were able to start negotiating with Karlos Dansby and his agent on Monday of this week (12/29). As we know, once a player is franchised, they can't be resigned or extended until after the season, but the one word that is often left out of that statement is that it's the end of the 'regular season' not the end of the team's season.
Dansby had the best season of his career in 2008, leading the Cardinals in tackles and tied for second on the team in sacks, forced fumbles (2) and interceptions. We all know that Dansby saw his buddy Calvin Pace (how will he feel watching AZ in the playoffs this year?) get paid last season and it's expected that Dansby is looking for a similar contract (6 years for $42 million with $22 million in guarantees). We'll get much more into the Dansby situation once the Cardinals finish their season by winning the Super Bowl but for now, pay him or let him walk?

Pay him
What is the alternative? Let him go and spend a lot of money on a FA unfamiliar with the system/players? The draft? Hope that Ali Highsmith takes his “mask” off in Scooby-Doo fashion to reveal Ray Lewis’ mug?
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

He is one of the players I think we should lock up.
He has played his ass off this year and we need to retain the “anchormen” to keep the momentum moving in the right direction.
With a team that is continually improving and the possibilities of more great strides to come, how do you thing this factors in to a players decisions regarding contract negotiations? Does it depend on the individual and what their particular goals are or are they just grabbing at the highest number they can? I guess at his age he just wants another Bentley…
Karlos Dansby…I’ll be honest, I don’t think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.

who knows what goes into their decisions
I’m sure the state of the team plays into their decisions but it’s obviously not the biggest factor. The character of the player has to be considered as well. Some guys just want as much money as they can get and some guys will take a little less to stay with a contender.

Wow, some people get paid a lot of money to watch the playoffs at home. How much will Terrel Suggs command in the offseason?

And he had the audacity to say that the Cards were a mess and that he was glad to be gone. How does he feel now?
Especially with the ever retiring Favre, the fired head coach, missing the playoffs and a pretty poor ranking defense.

How much suggs would cost is a very good question
I’d love to see him here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up with something like 6 for 50
