Arizona Cardinals Release Marcel Shipp
The Cardinals released veteran Marcel Shipp today to make room for another offensive lineman, Jasper Harvey. Cutting Shipp saves the Cardinals $1.75 million this season and opens more doors for youngsters Tim Hightower and Steve Baylark. Harvey, 6'3 315, is a center who spent the 2007 season on the Eagles practice squad.
More to come on Shipp's career tomorrow.

Interesting....
....I am not sure why they would hold onto J.J. over Marcel. Marcel has been a great professional while in AZ and you would hope the franchise would do better by him. That being said, it is a business and I am sure Graves et al had a reason.

Shipp vs. JJ
I wondered the same thing my self at first but Shipp was at a disadvantage because they’ve already got some many big bodied backs. His game mirrors both Edge, Hightower and even Baylark. JJ is the only back with speed which is why he probably stuck around, although he could still be cut if Baylark does really well.
Versatility
JJ also can return kicks which probably is looked at when making these roster moves too. Out of interest does anyone know Arringtons cap number for this season?
I always liked Shipp but over the last couple of seasons his touches were extremely limited so it was always on the cards.
JJ
His cap number is $1.045 million and half of that is tied up in bonus money so the team would only save about 520K if they cut him.
Thanks for the info...
...I guess I am just sentimental re: Shipp. I have no idea why.

Appreciate it...
...am I the only one who gets nostalgic for role-players on my favorite teams? Jim Les and Lionel Simmons for the Kings, Pop-up Matty Williams for the D’backs, Marcel for the Cards. None of them great but they all hold a special place in my fan-heart for some reason.

surely you're not the only one
I think it’s just the underdog aspect. Everyone wants the underdog to pull through, plus how can you not like an UDFA who became a starter and was a great team mate. He’ll be missed for sure.
