Arizona Cardinals Name Team Captians

Whiz_mediumThe Cardinals released their team captains for the 2008 season today and they're quite a bit different from last season. The 2007 captains were Anquan Boldin, Adrian Wilson, Gerald Hayes, Neil Rackers and Aaron Francisco. Well the only repeat player will be Aaron Francisco as a special teams captain. Joining him will be offensive captains Kurt Warner and Reggie Wells, defensive captain Karlos Dansby and one more special teams captain Sean Morey. Here's what Whiz had to say about the players selections:

"The team voted, it's how they feel," Whisenhunt said. "It's interesting to see their perception of it. But I am hoping we have a number of veteran leaders on this team that weren't necessarily captains and I expect those guys to give their leadership ability."

No more Boldin

Although not too surprising giving recent events surrounding Boldin, part of me still thought there was a chance the players were going to vote him as captain again. Warner is no surprise at all, but I have never heard anybody go out of their way to talk about Wells leadership in the lockerroom. This says a lot about his character.

Dansby is without a doubt a leader on D, and I hope that this recognition by his peers, coupled with a successful season, will help persuade him to stay with the team after this season.

Sean Morey is interesting considering that a week or two ago, I wasn’t even sure that he would make the cut.

Just Resting?

It’s looking like Morey’s job was never in any jeopardy and his value on special teams is too great to risk him getting hurt diving for a punt in the preseason. He started off really strong last year, nearly always being at the spot of the ball leaving the punter’s foot, but as the season progressed he just wasn’t close anymore. ::shrugs:: I hope Lance Long can absorb all that he can from Morey this year and make a run at the roster in ’09, as #19 may have more utility as a receiver than Morey.

We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

Blocking Kicks

DRC blocked some kicks in college too. Between the two of them I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cards blocked 2-3 this season.

Shock and Awe

How ‘bout Anthony Morelli, that would make McCain’s Veep choice look boring! At least he could be captain of the PS.

Wells

Wells went back and finished his degree, something he didnt have to do. That further shows his character.. not to mention his performances, which I think make him our best lineman.
