One for the rookie QB, one for the veteran QB. Why not, indeed?
(disclaimer: like Mr NFL, I’m a visiting Colts fan here to cheer on the underdog)

Laptop was left at work and I'm not gonna watch the game on the tiny TV where the PC is but...
…gotta love Antonio and DRC! $41 million under the cap next year? Be afraid, be very afraid.
As for how quiet it is here…well, it’s the Carinals. How many Cardinals fans do you know? I’m about it for the Sacramento area.

I was sort of thinking that Jake might have one of those Jake Delhomme days.
I put 1 euro 69 cent on the Cards (Last bit of money in my account) to win outright, stand to make 7 euro 67 or something

Crazy. Delhomme for CotW…LOL.
Love Whiz. Big game coach. I put nothing past them next week either after this game, though the elements will certainly be much worse, and the track records sure bad in snow.

by Irishcardinal on Jan 10, 2009 8:50 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
WOW.
Thanks for an awesome game, Cards. This gives me someone to root for in the postseason, now that the Colts are out of it.
I do love underdogs, and from what I could ascertain, last time the Cards were champs of the whole shootin’ match, it was 1947. So I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing them go on to win the NFC champ game, and perhaps even the big one.
What a season!

Andrew, my suggestion for CotW
Antonio Smith: Without that initial strip, would the game have been the same?
DRC: God bless the parents that brought him into this world
Rolle: Great pick, great tackles
Castille: He caught a pass, why not? :P
Definitely throw in Delhomme.

Same here
I couldn’t watch a big play without a “CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!!!” text coming my way.
COTW:
1) Antonio Smith – I have to agree, Smith set the tone for this game.
2) DRC – ALL DAY! – Made amazing plays and shut down Smith for 90% of the game
3) Fitz – Was Fitz. Nuff said.
4) Rolle – Great play as well.

If I may....
….and maybe I am jumping the gun, but what does this say about Q’s importance to the team moving forward? Does this hurt his chances at that big contract with AZ or does this help usher him out via trade?

think u need to keep Q
Hes a special player. He was making plays two weeks after having his face ripped back to have surgery. You dont find guys like that every year, or every 5 -10 years even.

High draft pick for Boldin
With the cap room for next year, we can resign him and I’d prefer that honestly. But he’s worth a high draft pick that could make the future much brighter. His injuries worry me on durability over a career.

weve seen what kind of value u get from big name trades
Moss for a 4th rounder. Q might go for a bit more cuz hes younger, but cards arent good enough with scouting imo to ensure that a 3rd or 4th rounder is a sure bet.
by Blitzburgh on Jan 10, 2009 9:12 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Not good enough at scouting?
Most of our team was acquired via draft. Every team has hits and misses, but 3/4s are never “sure things.”

He has to stay
If only for his effect on the rest of the core. We need to keep big name players at the ball club to attract others, and I personally think that he deserves to be paid and stay a Cardinal. He has given so much for the team over the years, often with nothing other than individual success.
I also think you should never trade hall of fame talent for the possibility of talent. The possibility.

I agree to an extent
but that’s going to be a crapload of money going to one position. And I just feel like adding this: if it don’t make dollars then it don’t make cents.

We do have 41 million under the cap
Thats down to great value picks in the last few years. That will only last so long, before those guys start demanding new deals. Lets really grab this opportunity, keep the most dynamic receiving corps in the league intact and try and add a stud back while we can, and have a few winning seasons.
by Irishcardinal on Jan 10, 2009 9:21 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I'd rather add
McCoy (in my mind Moreno and Wells will be gone) in the draft and give Dockett and the rest of the Defensive contractually malcontents the $$.

in great shape
Outside of the QB position, things seem to be pretty set and on the right path. Its a neverending process of course, and we’ll see if Grimm takes off if that makes a difference. Amazing though and thats the future. Times now to win! Look at these crazy ass games today. ANYTHING can happen.

wont give credit to AZ. Theyll just spew babble like: ‘you cant win turning the ball over 6 times..blah blah..’
thats true of course, but AZ deserves tons of credit for lots of things. not all was just handed to them. very impressive on both sides of the ball.

Just dropping by to congratulate you guys on a great win.
The Cards are playing the best ball I’ve seen from them in all the years I’ve watched them football. And that’s over 50 years! What a great game plan and execution by players on both sides of the ball.
Warner is looking like the guy who couldn’t be stopped on those earlier Rams teams. And Fitzgerald…..right now who is better in the league? If you get Boldin back next week it will be a tough job for the winner of today’s game at the Meadowlands.
Anyway this is a great time for you “Bird” fans. Maybe this is the start of a new era for the Cards like 1986 was for the Giants. Even if you don’t win it all this year it is obvious that no longer will you be the joke of the league. Welcome to the second round of the playoffs.
