Free Agent Facelift

While the euphoria is still high and before our attention is dominated by the NFC Championship Game match-ups, let me toss out this "centerfold" of mental masterbation:

Do you think Rod Graves and the Cardinals now have a better bargaining position for Free Agents this year?

Adam Scheffler reported last week the Cardinals will be $41 million under the cap next year, $47 million if Edgerrin James is released.  That's a lot of wiggle room.

Part of the reason is due to our own players that become Free Agents in March.  Wouldn't you think that this season's ultimate results make staying in the desert a much more attractive option?  As weak as the NFC West was this year, doesn't it seem likely that the Cardinals should be the favourite to win it again next year?  Another playoff run?

Then consider how alluring the franchise would be to Free Agents from elsewhere?  In particular, to a talented running back free agent that would be happy to share carries with Hightower?  Or to a sack specialist?

As much as the Cardinals' playoff run has been about changing perceptions of the NFL fan about the team, it's also about changing the perceptions of the players in the league.  The Cardinals, the large, hairy mole on the face of the NFL, is getting a major face lift and mole removal.  This isn't your father's (or grandfather's) Cardinals team.

So mull this thought over in the back of your mind and let's revisit this after the Pro-Bowl.  If you have something at the front of your mind that cannot wait, let's hear it.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?
Hold on, hold on, what if the Hurricanes name was Whisenhunt?

Larry Johnson anyone?

Wants out of Kansas City. Could improve the running game by a lot. Any thoughts?

Dick Vermeil once said he needs to "grow up and stop being a crybaby".

I thought he had gotten over that. Last couple of years I have to wonder again. He’s got the skills, I’m just worried about attitude and durability.

Yeah..

Plus he isnt getting any younger. Could already be on the decline…

His domestic issues bother the hell out of me

Plus his obvious durability problem. He was run like crazy and doesn’t seem to have the wheels left.

Gawds, something got me thinking about Hambrick recently…oh yeah, the one rout Denny Green had his first year against the Saints when Emmitt and Troy went crazy.

I kinda wish Marcell Shipp had been brought back to play Special Teams after Highsmith was hurt; he would be enjoying this playoff run. Probably is anyways.

i want shipp back.
  1. Draftee or good free agent pick up.
  2. Timmy.
  3. Ship/JJ/Edge at the right price.

Have to admit....

….kinda wishing Edge wouldn’t go now.

I can't believe you brought up Hambrick...

Maybe after getting on Nutra System with the likes of Marino and Berman.

I like the idea of LJ coming over, you never know how a player will react. Plus, you surround him by class acts maybe it will wear off a bit. He’s 29 though so it would have to be incentive based and he would have to know his place on the depth chart.
