All 106 Players Ranked for Super Bowl 43
ESPN recently ranked all of the players in Super Bowl 43. Who rounded out the top? None other then Larry Fitzgerald. Surprisingly, Mike Gandy ranked 18th and was called the "best offensive lineman in this game".

B. Rothleosberger, Darnel Dockett and Aquan Boldin all ranked above...
Adrian Wilson??? WTF?
He’s in the top 2 Safeties in the league and they dog him like that? Our defense shut down last year when he was out and they are nothing without that guy.
Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?
Hold on, hold on, what if the Hurricanes name was Whisenhunt?

I know I may be breaching a sensitive subject here, but my beef with Wilson is the same one I’ve always had with Bob Sanders: a safety is a DB, not a LB, so their ability to play the pass is the top priority. When I look at Reed and Polamalu, I see two well rounded safeties who are outstanding against the run and the pass. I love watching Sanders and what I’ve seen of Wilson, but I have a hard time considering them the very best at their position when they stand out more for big hits on the ball carrier than big plays in the passing game.
That said, don’t think I’m not scared of Wilson on Roethlisberger’s blind side. Either him or Dawkins has to be the best blitzing safety in the league.

He may come off like that since he lines up near the LOS..
But he is actually good in coverage. He usually doesn’t let anybody beat him deep either.

I noticed that about Gandy. Do you think that’s too low? I’m not going to argue that any Steelers OL’s should be in the top 50.

How does Eric Green rank better than Urban?
When did Green last dress for a game? At the Rams?

Ben Graham 104th?? Ouch
I thought his punting has been very solid this post season.

What’s laughable is his comparison to our sad punter.
The concept of this list is only mildly questionable, but the execution is awful. ESPN blows chunks.

Paul Ernster is a good guy with a solid work ethic...
My mom and I are co-workers of his mom and we all partied with them down in Rocky Point MEX. He’s a local boy turned NAU kicker so I gotta like him but I haven’t got to see him play much. How has he been for you guys?

mitch berger is our punter
Then berger got hurt. Then enter…
Paul ernster is terrible, I don’t give a damn about his work ethic. He is an awful punter and posted three stellar games of 30-yd averages. Then Berger got better and ernster is back doing whatever he does when he isn’t attempting to lose his team games.
Mitch berger is twice the punter that Ernster is. \Mitch berger is not very good, certainly doesn’t deserve to be ranked 40 spaces above your punter.

Ernster reporting for duty.
vs Colts: avg 36.7.
Okay, I guess he’s alright. Not as good as Berger, but the defense can get by
vs Chargers: avg 30.8.
Jesus, way to shank all over the place and not kick. Oh well, probably just a fluke. At least it can’t get worse.
vs Cin: avg 28.4
Any high schoolers around that want to play for the steelers?
I wish ernster all the best, but he is done in the NFL. He can’t punt.

Ike Taylor (28th) vs. Fitz
I guess that helps settle that argument…until next Sunday at least.
by AJ BirdWatcher on Jan 23, 2009 2:02 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Ike taylor is incredibly underrated. Unfortunately for him, Fitz is not overrated.

Here's some excerpts of what their "flip cards" had to say about Taylor:
"He has excellent pure speed, although he does take a little time to get going, but few wideouts can expose him from a pure speed standpoint. He re-routes well at the line of scrimmage and can out-muscle some wideouts. He gets off the ground very well and goes up and disrupts the ball at its highest point. Taylor has awful hands for the interception and drops numerous would-be turnovers every year. He breaks up a lot of passes, but leaves far too many plays on the field… Few cornerbacks in the league have his combination of size, speed and athletic ability. "
I think that’s a pretty good assessment. Also, I’d like to point out that nobody in their right mind is going to say that Taylor is “as good” as Fitz or would dominate him one-on-one or something. I wouldn’t even trust Nnamdi Asomugha with Fitz one-on-one all day. What we’ve said is that he can hold his own if he has some help: contesting Fitz on the line, keeping with him stride for stride, and reducing the size of the windows he has to make plays. That scouting report seems to suggest Taylor can do those things.
With perfect execution, any offense will shred any defense. However, our defense makes is very hard for teams with less than perfect execution to move the ball consistently, and Ike is a big part of that.

WHAT???
What we’ve said is that he can hold his own if he has some help:
Curious. Can he hold his own or does he need help? This reminds me of the contradictory commercials. “Lady steps in a cab. The driver says where to and she says uptown and downtown. The driver says which one first and she says both at the same time. The driver then says you can’t do both at the same time and that you’re crazy.” Kinda reminds me of this comment. Which one is it? Can he hold his own or does he need help?

That's a perfectly legitimate usage
From thefreedictionary.com:
Hold one’s own (Verb)
1. be sufficiently competent in a certain situation
2. maintain one’s position and be in control of a situation
Ike Taylor will be sufficiently competant at “covering Larry Fitzgerald with help over the top”, or at least that’s what I’m asserting. Way to be wrong when you’re correcting someone’s word usage. I mean you literally look like a jackass.

you still don't get it. you can't hold your own if you have help.
you definition only proves that your comprehension level is a bit lacking. i’ll get my seven year old daughter to help you. she’s already learned that part of reading is understanding what you have just read. no where in that definition does it imply that you can get help from others and still hold your own. that my friend would be an oxymoron. and although you ARE a moron, that’s not what it means. you should have said something like “Ike will be in postition to control the situation as long as he gets help to cover Fitz.” that way it makes sense. otherwise your statement holds no merrit as is. btw are you and undercover bootie hair guitarist? bad mufasa. jackass!!

One more time
Okay, think of it this way. Everyone on the defense has a role; a job description, if you will. Ike Taylor’s job description is to bump Fitz at the line, cover him in short to intermediate routes, and to trail him deep, making potential windows for success as small as possible – all while trusting the safety behind him to do his job, which is attempting to break up deep passes and making tackles when the ball is completed.
Once again, I’m asserting that Ike Taylor can fulfill that job description, or “hold his own”.
The phrase “hold one’s own” is about fulfilling one’s responsibilty, not doing something by yourself. If a person “held his own” as a piano mover, he’s doing his job – working with others to move a piano – not moving the piano by himself.
If you reread the definition above, you can “hold your own” and have help, if part of your “position” or “situation” is working with others.

Are we really
arguing about the definition of the phrase “to hold one’s own”?

i've got nothing better to do. right or wrong its worth it just to argue. the big game is coming up and dialogue is too mondain at the present. why not argue over something as miniscule as this?
i really could care less about the useage of the word. even though he is right, i think i got his juices flowing. he actually called me a jacka$$. i’ll apologize after the superbowl badmaafala. until then its on.

Alright, it will remain on. Incidentally, I was just joking about the jackass thing. I thought it would be funny to misuse the word “literally” (how would I know what you look like?) right after talking about correct word/phrase usage.
