Arizona Cardinal of the Week: Playoff Edition
After a fashionable win over the Atlanta Falcons this past Saturday, there are numerous candidates for the CotW. The defense proved to be dominant against not only the pass, but also against the run. The offense was able to produce on the ground, which in return, set up the pass nicely. Last weeks winner was Edgerrin James, and he was only the second winner this season on offense. Kurt Warner is a candidate and has been several times but has yet to take a win. This weeks poll has quite a few candidates which is obvious after a playoff win. I even included Stephen Spach for his catch at the end. By request I added Antrel Rolle and Darnell Dockett.
As I stated in the comments, ESPN wasn't too nice to Dockett.
Atlanta rookie Matt Ryan was intercepted twice, was tackled in the end zone for a safety and fumbled the ball away on a botched handoff. That fumble was returned 27 yards by Antrel Rolle 52 seconds into the second half to put Arizona ahead for good.
And as always drop a line for anybody you think should be a candidate and why they should.
Comments
Rolle
For me the definitive moment of the game was Rolle’s Interception. To that point the second half defense looked as though it could easily roll over and play dead. That changed the momentum of the game.

Darnel Dockett
Not only did he cause the fumble the Antrel returned for a score, but he was also applying much needed pressure on Smith’s safety. He was right there and had just as much of an opportunity to get the safety. He was also jumping several snaps and causing a ruckus in the backfield.

Apparenlty..
ESPN is not considering that fumble actually forced by Dockett, they said Ryan lost the ball. But I think it was disrupted by Dockett.

Edge for President
Whoever is running the ball effectively and forces the opposing defenses to be honest, deserves my vote. Thank you Edge for being the ultimate pro about your situation this year.
Spach is my second place vote. He’s a great blocker and is proving he has good hands on the receiving end. Isn’t that what Whisenhunt has been pining for? As someone said in the game thread: Pope who?

This was the toughest CoTW poll for me...
When everyone is playing like that, how can you pick the one who stands out the most?
There’s a case for everyone on that list! Especially Edge, DRC, Dockett, Warner, Fitz, Rolle, oh wait that’s half the team right there.
I’d also like to say that Graham made some great punts! Thank you Special Teams for playing amazing football!

Good point, CF08
The Falcons’ first punt return was the only “big” one they had the whole game. Michael Adams had a helluva a stick on one kick return in the 3rd quarter. Graham gets the ideal spin on his punts so they’re easy to down inside the 10-yard line. It was a good weekend to be a punter considering one actually made the Madden Horse Trailer.

I think you gotta look at..
Whoever didnt play this game, then the Cardinals lose dramatically. If its like that you gotta go with Edge.
