Blogger Q&A with Panthers Blogger - Playoff Edition
Well here we are again Cardinal Fans and more specifically fans of Revenge of the Birds. Jaxon with Cat Scratch Reader checking in. I had a feeling we might meet again. Kudos for your victory over the Falcons, your defense was the surprise of WC weekend in my opinion. Can they do it again? We shall see. But first we have to discuss all the variables of this match-up until we are all nervously twitching in our shorts right up until game time...make that Prime Time Saturday.
Will the Panthers get their DT's back? Word is it looks good.
Will Anquan Boldin's hammy hold up? You'll have to tell me.
Will CB Rod Hood finally keep WR Steve Smith out of the end zone? Doubt it.
Will RB Edgerrin James continue his Arizona swan song? Hope not.
Will the Panthers be able to prevent getting into an early hole? Lord I hope so.
Can anybody in the league stop Larry Fitzgerald? Definitely not.
I felt the Panthers were very fortunate to win the first game so I expect nothing less than a battle royale this time. Seems I recall LB Jon Beason had a key INT in the red zone in the 4th quarter that prevented a go-ahead score. Actually there were a lot of key plays by both teams that made this one of the best Panther games to watch all season. But I've digressed enough.
You guys know the drill. Any questions? Please? Oh and of course a little reminder from the first game:
Panthers WR Steve Smith soars like a bird into the end zone!
(This was after that side line catch that I bet you guys thought he stepped out of bounds = inconclusive!)
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Hey Jaxon
Congrats to your team thus far.
I’d like to see The Cards give DRC a crack at Smith, he’s been killin it.
I think this game will come down to old mother nature. If it’s raining pretty sure you guys got this. If it sunny and warm(relatively speaking) we will put on a show. As of right 40% change of precipitation :(.
We can’t beat you on the ground, but if we can air it out…
We seem to have the most trouble with a defense with a D-line who can get after Warner without help. Do you think your Panthers can do this?

The Panthers usually have to bring additional players
Peppers will bring some pressure at times. I think the guy on the other side Charles Johnson had a key sack in the first game. He’s improved too but unless the secondary is playing well they are a step late a lot.

DRC only has one kidney
And that’s what makes him run so fast. Less weight to lug around.
Maybe we should remove all of Alan Branch’s internal organs. He might get up the field a little better then. :)

If it's sunny at 8:15pm something is wrong!
TWC is now saying 60% chance of rain, with an overnight low of 36F

Rookie on Smith??? Please!
That is a recipe for disaster for Card fans. Smith is very unconventional, and he knows how to get into player’s heads. Why would you expose a rookie to that kind of potential misfortune?

Yes i've heard...
Smith is seven feet tall. Kills men by the hundreds. He will consume our secondary with fireballs from his eyes and lightning bolts from his arse.

Oh, I thought Matt was insinuating that Steve Smith is a closet Live Action Role Player and I'd find blackmail video on some Furry website...
Is that Steve Smith on the right?

What is different about you guys since the last time we played you?
The Cards are just about 100% minus Bolden and I think they will take this down if their defense can play like they did last week. Carolina and the Falcons seem pretty similar on paper to me and I like the matchup. Either way good luck to you guys.

Boldin
I’d have to say if we had to have one of our starters out with injury, Boldin would be my first choice.
1. We are deep at receiver.
2. He has been out, and our receiving core answer the call guns blazing.
3. He hasn’t even been playing that sharp anyways.
Better him than Larry.

We've struggled with our rushing defense
but our running game has improved. We were missing two starters in the first game, C Ryan Kalil and RT Jeff Otah. Since those two came back the running game has been awesome. We lost former Cardinal G Keydrick Vincent to IR (groin) after the Broncos game but another former Cardinal Jeremy Bridges has filled in nicely. Otah is a beast.

early leads
With the exception of a few blowouts, the 1st half of the season the Panthers kept falling behind early, but pulling it together in the 3rd and 4th. 2nd half of the season they have seemed better at jumping out to early leads, or at least keeping it close.
They have jelled more, and seem to be more consistent as a result. However they have been a little to conservative in the 3rd lately.

It does rain here a lot in the winter
The joke here is if you don’t like the weather just wait about 10 minutes and it will change. Windy as hell today and the temp is dropping suggesting a front is coming in. Worst case scenario though is its overcast and maybe rains intermittently but it won’t down pour the entire day. Hurricane season is over and too early for spring storms. BTW, I live about 3 hrs south of Charlotte in Charleston, SC so the weather is comparable. That’s my non-expert opinion.

Being Cardinals fans means that we prepare for the worst...
1) It’s gonna rain
2) Q will be out
3) It’s on the east coast
But, I still like our chances. Fitz and Breaston will be bringing their A game. The defense is eager to keep the pressure and amazing level of play. This should be good.
How has Carolina been on the common penalties: False starts, holding, face mask, and pass interference?
I just rewatched the game last night and saw a lot of the bad calls the refs were blind to.

What stigma?
Just too green here compared to the desert? Too much humidity? If it’s not the time change then I’m curious what you guys think is behind this East Coast hex that seems to affect several WC teams.

If the Cards knew, it wouldn't be an issue!
Long flights? Unfamiliar rooms? Lumpy hotel beds? Hookers? It’s a psychological block on one front and physical on another. If they get behind early they pack it in mentally and physically. If they are able to jump to an early lead they seem to tire in the second half, fall behind and cannot rally.
For the Cards to have a “good” chance, they’ll have to mimic their performance against the Bengals last year where the Defense was making plays and scoring points. Otherwise, the chances are less than good if the Cards have to rely solely on Warner’s arm and hands to toss/hold the ball in the face of an aggressive pass rush. “Obi-warner James, you’re our only hope…”

Improved Panther D!
Some analysts think you will see a much improved Panther D than the last time. They started the season very strong, but wore down as the season progressed. 1st half of the season the Panther D had to bail out the offense many times. Now they are healthy, rested and the excitement of the playoffs has brought back that emotion they had at first.
But this time the Defense will be playing with a dominate Offense ;)
Good luck!

all season on any of these websites. Not even semi objective, but I’m glad you have found your forum. Good luck to the Panthers! I hope this game pans out like I think it will.

The stigma of the Pats/Jets/Eagles' games affects the bookies and the bets...remember 400 to 1 odds on winning the SB

I keep my objectivity at CSR.
But since you brought it up… They do have trouble getting pressure up the middle, which often gives QBs too much time and diminishes the secondary. No secondary can cover when a QB has a lot of time.
But that is really the only kink in their armor. And while it is a big one they seem to be able to compensate by scoring a lot of points… something Panther fans have never seen.
Here’s my objectivity… if we don’t win, then you will ;)
