Arizona Cardinals Temperature Heating up

  1. Edgerrin James - Consecutive games of productive running to give the Cardinals exactly what they need.
  2. Larry Fitzgerald - Saturday was his eighth 100 yard receiving game this year.
  3. DRC - 10 tackles last week. This guy is becoming a shut down corner. Yeah I said it. And since some of you think he's not then define what shut down is then.
  4. Stephen Spach - Only three catches, but effectively caught a huge one.
  5. Kurt Warner - Struggled late in the season but seems to have regained his MVP form.

10 tackles does not mean DRC is a shut-down corner. 10 tackles means he’s allowing catches to be made but making the tackle. Rather I’d like to see 4 PDs, 2 INT, and 4 Tackles to be anointed as a “shut-down corner”. DRC is headin’ in the right direction, something the Cards haven’t been able to say about a high draft pick DB since….Aeneas?

Think about all the games he has started..

the majority of the WRs he’s been covering are ghosts. I think its Hood that is giving up all the passing yardage. Plus just compare the first half of the season when Green was in compared to now. No long passing plays anymore.

You know for such a skinny guy,

he hits like a tank.

Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?
Hold on, hold on, what if the Hurricanes name was Whisenhunt?

If you watch his play

He has been playing very cautious and allowing the catch. But no one is getting yards after a catch and he’s not getting burned. When he knows he can make the play he does, but he isn’t taking risks or chances. As long as keeps that up and has a for sure pick or 2 a game, i’m stoked! Fast learning curve, KUDOS.

+1 I'm a DRC fan

It’s nice to see a first rounder show up in his first year at AZ, that’s been a rarity.

Fitz and Q

I would say are the only others that have shown up in year 1

okay

Well find me a play in the last few weeks of DRC giving up a huge play or TD? or find a receiver that had a huge game against DRC, not Hood. 10 tackles is something you dont see a lot for a cornerback. And from what AZ fans have seen in the past, he is rare. Also, whats your definition of shut down and beside Champ Bailey, name me who is “Shut Down”. Up until this year people thought Deangelo Hall, Nate Clements, and Marcus Trufant were all shut down, yet they were getting burned weekly.

Semantics

“Shut down corner” is overused and misunderstood. Is it “shut down” as in QBs won’t throw at that corner (like Neon Deion who is the originator of the term), or “shut down” as in knocking down balls and making tackles? DRC is a little of both which isn’t so much “shut down” as in “damn good player”, especially for a “rookie”.

DRC was a “shut down” corner last night with his work against Steve “Fight Club” Smith. Here’s hoping he shuts down the opposition the remained of the post-season.

Shutdown Corner

Dare not throw his way or he will: tackle the receiver before he gains any yards after the catch, deflect the ball for an incompletion, intercept the ball or put the fear of GOD in you enough not to even throw his way. I’d say he has done all that and consistently. Oh, and sorry Hawk. I did see your comment about emailing you after our picks were over. I can not get in to email you, but don’t worry. It was the thought that counts. And besides, like I said when I thought I was gonna win (for all of one week), I never wanted the prize anyway. Just enjoy the comradery of others who share in my interests. GO CARDS!!!

Drop me an e-mail anyways

I have to pace the prize shipments anyways from the “entertainment” budget. Irishcardinal is first. I can get yours going in late January.
