RotB Pick'em: Week 5 Results & Week 6 Picks

He chose poorly...

He chose poorly...

"He chose....poorly..." would be the theme of Week 5 in the RotB Pick'em League.  The Bengals roaring back against the Ravens put most on the "Wrong" ledger, along with the punt-spectacular Browns victory in Buffalo.  Throw in the Broncos poopy-diaper uniforms and the Orange Crush in Miami, and many of us were wishing to have used the Elmer Fudd Tactic.  A record eight participants finished 3-5 on the week, so if you saw five correct picks, count yourself lucky.  Congratulations to b0rdrline and card-deville who finished 6-2 and share the Weeks Won Point evenly (0.5).  Those who are still above the 70% correct threshold appear first, the rest of us after the jump along with the games for Week 6.

week 5

MIN – gonna pick the home team in this one
CIN – can’t really pick against them with the season they’re having so far
KC – can haley get his first win?
NO – great matchup this week, so i’m gonna go with the home team after the bye
ARI – gonna pick our boys, mainly because we NEED this win
NE – brady at home + struggling titans
ATL – looking for more big stuff after last weeks game
SD – i can see the chargers stepping it up at home and giving the undefeated broncos their first loss

Last week.

Not only did I pick the Browns over the Bills (also my survivor pick! woo!), and the Bengals over the Ravens, but I was THIS close from taking the Broncos over the Pats.. damn. I’m starting to feel like I should look into becoming a professional bettor, though, haha.

I’ll likely/probably change some of these picks later in the week (we can do that, right?), but for now:

BAL – MIN gets Baltimore at home, but must then go on the road at both Pitt and Green Bay. I’m thinking they might not be as focused for the home game as they should, where as Baltimore will be on fire after barely losing their past 2 games.
CIN – This is a wash, honestly. I could see it going either way, although I’ll give the nod to Mr. Clutch himself. If this one goes to the final minute, as well, how many Bengals fans do you think will get heart attacks?
WAS – KC just went all out against the Cowboys, and still came up short. They might be emotionally flat for the unimpressive Redskins, though if Jim Zorn is fired during the week (very real possibility), I’ll likely change this pick.
NO – Amazing match up, I can’t wait, and another one that I can see going either way. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt to the home, dome, pass-first team, though. For now.
SEA – Seattle just demolished the Jaguars at home, and Qwest Field remains one of the toughest (and loudest) places to play at. I’m hoping I’m wrong, but I just can’t see Warner & Co. getting into their rhythm here.
NE – There’s a small shot of TEN starting Vince Young. Besides that, they just went balls out for their one last shot at salvaging the season, and still came up short. They’re done, where as New England will want come out firing on all cylinders after dropping a loss to their ex-OC.
ATL – Again, giving it to the home, dome team for now, though if Forte can get going on the ground CHI will definitely, definitely have a shot against this sad excuse of a defense.
SD – Do you think McDaniels had the Patriots game circled months in advance? I sure as hell do; he even went out of his way to debut his new formation for the occassion. They might not be as focused here, even if it is a divisional opponent. Have to give the (slight) edge to SD at this point, though that rests solely on the belief of Rivers being able to overcome his own lack of defense, and Denver’s surprising efficiency on defense.

good games this week

MIN – going with the home team
CIN – not sure who pissed in the Bengals corn flakes but if they can beat PIT and BAL, they should dispose of HOU
WAS – Possible battle for a top five pick, going with the home team
NO – Possible NFC Title game preview????
ARI – b/c I never go against the good guys
NE – geez how tuff has TEN start to the season been?
ATL – Can you see a pattern with the home teams
DEN – If DEN can win in NE, then they should win in SD

Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

May not have a TV to watch these game the way the Jawas have attacked my Craigslist listings...

Picked these games last week, hope they’re still valid choices:

Minnesota (Three game slide for Baltimore? Could get ugly.)
Cincinnati (Last time I picked them was Week 4 of last year.)
Kansas City (So close yet so far away, WAS has cured two teams of their winless ways, why not a third?)
New Orleans (These aren’t the Raiders…)
Seattle (Booo, booo, Hawk you suck! Hasselbyabadback will make our secondary his beyotchs)
New England (Why did I pick this game again?)
Atlanta (Home team advantage)
Denver (Poopy diaper vs. Baby Blue? Numeral helmet vs. numeral helmet. TV set colour adjustments made across the nation.)

We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

Week 6 Picks

Minnesota – Tough pick as both teams are very good. I’m going with the home team though.
Cincinnati – I think Houston could win here but Cincy keeps proving me wrong.
Kansas City – Todd Haley gets his first win as head coach by beating the terrible Skins.
New Orleans – Another tough pick but I think the Saints offense comes out on top.
Arizona – I actually think Seattle could win this one but I can’t go against the Cards.
New England – Brady will pick apart that terrible D Tennessee has had this year.
Chicago – Chicago coming off their bye will be ready to play on Sunday.
Denver – They been making me look good by picking them every week. Why stop now?

Rankings are based on percent picked correctly. First tie-breaker is the number of weeks picked. Second tie-breaker is Week Won Points. Third is number of times the Cards were picked. Everyone is “in the running” until they are DQed. Minimum number of weeks to qualify is nine weeks with the last two weeks being mandatory pick weeks. So those that played only one week will drop off the chart when they haven’t picked Week 10’s games (the first week when all picks have to be declared before the Thursday kick-off). Believe me, I’d like to shorten the rankings.

Week 6 picks

BAL – Vikings back off a bit in this game and lose.
HOU – I don’t see a come back victory for Cincy in this one.
WAS – They will put together a win this week. KC is done.
NYG – Too strong and will shut down the Saints.
ARI – Hope their secondary is ready to stop Matt.
NE – Can the Titans actually go to 0-6? Looks like it to me.
CHI – I give the slight edge to Cutler but I may change this.
SD – Denver has pulled out too many sloppy wins. I think they end up with the first loss here.

by kj197728 on Oct 13, 2009 5:25 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

MIN – defense against defense. AP prevails.
CIN – really.. bengals 4-1?!?!?! game will be closer than expected.
WAS – toilet bowl game of the week goes to the redskins.
NYG – 17-14 OT.
ARI – hopefully we don’t let hasselbeck go crazy.
NE – titans stink.
ATL – slight favorite because they’re at home.
SD – broncos will fall off cloud 9 in this one.

... we sittin here talking about practice. not a game, not a game.

Need 6 of 8 to remain above .700

Bal- Ray Lewis is mad about the two separate fines from last week.
Cin- Y go against them now?
KC- Like I said before, they would lose to Detroit and now it is KC’s turn.
NYG- Jacobs complained about the playcalling. Look for him to get it a lot.
Ari- Y even comment.
NE- Rank the Titans from 1-10. Well they’re def a Ten in the wrong direction.
ATL- Chi hasn’t played anyone
Den- SD has lost it.

Life's too short. Be a fan. Orlando Magic, Arizona Cardinals,Tampa Bay Rays and of course "the U"! What a winning combo.
