The Month of November is Shapely Up Nicely for the Cardinals
Sure a 4-2 record and a division lead is something we should all be thankful for but the Cardinals have the opportunity to go on a serious run over the next five weeks. Their next five opponents have a combined record of 7-24 and not a single team has a winning record. While we might normally be worried that three of these games are on the road, not so much this year. Check out the next five:
- Carolina Panthers (2-4)
- @ Chicago Bears (3-3)
- Seattle Seahawks (2-4)
- @ St. Louis Rams (0-7)
- @ Tennessee Titans (0-6)
Trips to Chicago and Tennessee won't be layups by any means but these are five very winnable games. Just imagine heading into the month of December with a 9-2 record (or even 8-3 if you want to be modest). We'd again be talking about playing for a bye or even the #1 seed. To sweeten the pot even more the Niners play at Indianapolis and at Green Bay during this same stretch. If we take care of business, we could easily have a three or four game lead in the West heading into the final five games. What will our record be after these five games?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

9-2
After what this team has showed the past two weeks, these five games should be wins for the Cards. The Bears and Titans games could be tough if the weather is bad but their both bad teams and should not beat us.
Looking at the rest of the schedule, including these five games, we only really have two tough games left. Those two games are versus the Vikings here and versus the Niners in San Fran. We could be looking at a 12-4 or possibly 13-3 record when it is all said and done.

I don't care what they say
Green Bay game planned in the preseason. They’re overrated. I would still say that’s a tough game to end the year though. I think if we play our best football we should end up 12-4 or 11-5. The Cardinals have a way of letting you down. They could easily lose to San Fran, Chicago, or Minnesota. If they keep playing how they have been though, then we should end with a pretty good record.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

I agree with Andrew.
I think Green Bay is overrated and you could definitely could tell they game planned in that game. Now, I would not be surprised if we rested our started for most of that game and brought in the backups which could lead to us losing that game.
I think any one of those teams could step up and beat us during this next five game stretch but based off of how we have played this year, those are games we should win.

8-3 would be good, 9-2 great
We should win all these games, but Philly would beat oakland 9 out of ten times this year as well so let’s just hope da cards keep focused on each game one at a time.
When was the last time the cards went unbeaten in the months of October & November? (my guess is never). To be talking about the possibility is exciting.
Also look at our remaining road games Chicago, St. Louis, Tennesee, San Fran, and Detriot. When was the last time any team went 8-0 on the road in regular season? New england in 07 the 16-0 regular season year is the only one I can remember.
If you had told me we would be 4-2 after our first 6 games I would have been real happy (although I still hate losing to SF). Looking at our schedule and how poorly some teams are playing this year I could see 12-4, though I would be reall happy with 11-5.
I agree that there is defintely reason for optimism. GO CARDS!!!

Didn't Warner & the Rams go 8-0 on the road one year too?

Giants 07 to 08 had 11 straight
road wins if you count the SB as a road game.
They lost the first road game of 07 in Dallas, then won 7 in a row regular season, 3 road playoff wins, the SB in AZ, and the first regular season road game of 08. Cleveland broke the streak with Derek Anderson @ QB.

That was when Derek Anderson actually looked like a quarterback.
It was also when the Browns actually looked like an NFL team.

Even though their last two games sucked the Bears are a good team.
But other than that, the other games in November should be easy wins.

be assuming the Titans in tennessee are a W for the cards. Amazing how quickly things can change in the NFL.

Let's not go crazy here
This is the Cardinals were talking about. As hard as it is to imagine losing to any of these teams, I predict a 3-2 record off of these 5 teams, just because we like to make things difficult for ourselves. We’ll still have a firm lead in the division but these could be very different teams from right now compared to a few weeks in the future. Just another perspective to add to the discussion.

I agree
If the Cardinals played like they did on Sunday for the rest of the season I say 11-5. But given what we’re used to , 10-6 or 9-7 could be likely.

No track record
There is nothing about this team that suggest that it will go on a protracted winning streak. This coaching staff has not shown the ability to keep this team focused and motivated for more than three games in row.
I would love for them to shake the “they lack consistency label.” Health will be a huge factor in the coming weeks.

Yea the injuries are worrying.
Boldin is nothing new as he seems to get some sort of injury every year but losing Wilson, Rolle, and DRC late in that game against the Giants was scary. Hopefully we stay healthy as that is a big reason why we went on our run last season, hardly any injuries.
by Pyromnc on Oct 28, 2009 8:02 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
on a comparative basis we're extremely healthy
So far our biggest injury has been Cody Brown and there are plenty of teams, like the Giants last week, who have multiple starters on IR or gone for extended periods of time.
Twisted ankles and tweaked groins are going to happen but avoiding the big injury to key player will be very important.

Leon Washington
You know Leon did not sign the contract that the Jets had on the table of about 4 million per. I think Leon feels a little different now about that. WOW!!!
That Lyold’s of London type policy hopefully will pay him well though.
by Cardsfan81 on Oct 28, 2009 12:01 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I bet he wishes he took the contract
And I bet the Jets are happy they didn’t dish out a bigger deal. Either way, I don’t think he’ll be the same. That was a devastating injury.

At the very best he won’t be 100% until after next season. Sucks for him.

I do feel bad & I don't
What were he and his agent doing turning down 4+ mil a year? He wanted a contract on the level with Maurice Jones-Drew. He was not going to get MJD money, did not deserve it, and frankly should have known better. He bet on his health and lost. I hope the risk was explained to him.
by Drullin'OverDaCards on Oct 28, 2009 10:45 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'd never wish that kind injury on anyone
but this is exactly what Karlos Dansby is risking also. They all know the risks associated with this game and that’s why guys like Boldin and Dockett took bigger deals earlier in their careers instead of waiting on that mega contract. They may regret it now but at least they didn’t have to worry about ending up like Leon or even JJ Arrington. Think about that guy, he’s got nothing now.

Exactly
With the franchise tag, players are gambling on thier ability to stay healthy for 2-3 years to get more cash. It’s real risky.

While our history may suggest we’re still more likely to finish 7-9 than 9-7, I would argue that our very recent history (ala the Ken Whisenhunt era) would suggest that we are progressing towards becoming an upper tier team. We’re certainly not there yet but I think he’s made tremendous strides over the past two and a half seasons.
Are there still mental lapses that remind us that we’re not perfect? Certainly and we all remember last December, but there are even more signs this year that this team is almost ready to turn a corner. We’re winning on the road, the defense is starting to play more consistent and we’ve even seem glimpses of a running game.
Maybe I’m still drinking too much Kool-Aid but I get the feeling that we’re in for the best Whisenhunt season yet.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I like that line of thinking Bezekira
I can’t believe that I’m actually saying this but I don’t think that you are off at all in your assesment . Drink all the kool-aid you like. Whisehunt is doing an outstanding job of changing the culture and perception of his/our team Nationally, albeit slower Nationally. You are right that things take time. The arrow is pointing up for this organization and I have not been able to say that for quite some time.
I think that there are some things that can be done to improve overall team consistency but that for a post later in the week.
Damn is good to be a Cardinal.

I'd be happy if we went 3-2 in the next 5 games.
let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Getting cocky will get your ass kicked in the NFL. The cards got cocky vs the Jags and Texans and allowed those teams to nearly make painful comebacks. I’d love for the cards to come out of the stretch at 9-2 but I’m not getting my hopes up.
by CardsDefense on Oct 27, 2009 4:54 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't be happy with 3-2 in those 5 based upon what we know now
But, I totally agree, the team needs to take it one week at a time and stay focused. We’re blogging fans, not the team. The whole point is to project out and talk about future senarios.

True, the fans opinion means nothing on the team
But we don’t want to look like another teams fans that got sucked into the early hype.

I wouldn’t be all that surprised by a 3-2 record over those 5 games, but no way would I be happy with it. Expectations from fans should be higher for this team with the Whis in charge, I think they’ve gotten higher internally.

We have a defense!!!. Thats the difference. No one has run on the cards since last regular season. That’s a long frickin’ time ago in football terms.

The Only Game I'm Interested In...
…is the week 8 match up v the Carolina Panthers. Right now that’s the only game we have to win and the only game our boyz should be concerned about.
One week at a time, Cards, fans…

players and coaches can focus on one week at a time
As for me, I’m thinking about five weeks down the road, who we should draft in April and who the starting QB might be in 2014. And I highly doubt that my thinking effects the focus or future of this team one tiny bit.

players and coaches and me
Yeah, you are correct that my focus has nothing to do with the team’s focus.
I personally have learned there’s not much good to playing fortune teller with crap going on weeks down the road. By the time ya get there, things have happened that completely change the complexion of whatever it was you THOUGHT was valid however weeks/months ago…it’s a waste of time, imho.
So, the only game I’m interested in is the only relevant one…the one we play this week. I don’t even know who we are playing week 9, lol.
