Boldin trade rumors resurface
Apparenlty Boldin was not too happy about how he was, or maybe wasn't, informed that he was inactive for the bears game. So the trade rumors surface again. Here is Whiz's response.
So any thoughts on where this is all going?

we should trade him in the off season
as long as it’s for a high 2nd rounder or better

Boldin will bounce back
Maybe I just have a soft spot for Q but I think he’ll get healthy and turn it up soon, later in the season. He’ll become another big threat in the endzone too. I’d hate to part ways with him during this offseason but I understand we can’t have 2 grossly paid WR’s and not suffer at other positions.

Still a big fan of Q
but he does fan the flames everytime he says something that even remotely sounds negative. I liked the Whiz’s reaction, I doubt there’s anything more to it.

I think the team has stepped it up and redid his deal once. They have said all along they want to keep him but NFL economics have kept it from being right away.
I think Q, though unhappy has played solid football and not been a distraction, or an a$$ole
I think Q playing in the Cards pass attack offense has been very beneficial for both parties.
Q has mad millions of dollars and been to the Superbowl, only a distant dream for most people.
I do believe whatever is best for the team is what is most important, If Anquan don’t want to be here, then it is time to go. Did the Cardinals loose a step without Pace, or Smith? I think they have a good team and finally have a winning culture and will be ok without him. With the younger Breasten and Doucet on the roster, maybe we can save some some money and shore up another position. I like Boldin but love the Birds, sick of the dispute so I say thanks for the great play, good luck hope you find what you are looking for, but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

I think it finally goes down this off season
We have three big needs heading into this year’s draft (OLB, ILB and OT) and if we could get someone’s first round pick and swap second round picks then we might end up with three picks in the top 50 or so. It’s possible to pull three starters (or at least two if you think the OLB can learn for a year or so) with those picks.
It sucks to lose Boldin, because I love the guy, but whoever pays him like a bona-fide number one with be over paying for his services.

Right now it does not feel like we would get a 1st round pick for him.
I think we could still get a 2nd round pick but because of his desire for a bigger payday and health issues I do not think we could get a 1st rounder for him.
2nd round would still be good considering how deep the 2010 draft is supposed to be.
by Pyromnc on Nov 11, 2009 7:02 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
yikes, I wouldn't trade him for a second round pick
unless there was something else tacked on like a third or fourth. Maybe we could find a team that had two 2nd rounders (preferably an early 2nd) and we could get a 2nd and a 3rd.
For instance, Cleveland will have at least two third round picks but one of those picks might turn into a 2nd round pick if Braylon Edwards performs well enough for the Jets. That’s a WR-needy team that could have two 2nd rounders. They also have three 5th round picks, if you’re looking for the “throw-in” pick.
Kansas City also has two 2nd rounders and 3 5th rounders.
Tampa also has two 2nd rounders.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I think we could get a 2nd and 3rd for him too.
I just do not think the Cards will get what the Lions got for Roy Williams (1st, 3rd, and 6th round picks).
The Tampa and Cleveland situations seems like good ones considering they do not really have a viable number one receiver right now. Baltimore might still be in the market for a receiver too, might be able to pry a first rounder from them.
I would not do it just for a 2nd rounder either but I think that will be the highest pick we get, with some mid round picks. A 2nd, 3rd, and 5th seem reasonable.

What was the Ravens offer this past off season?
Todd Heap and a 2nd? That would’ve been nice.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

So let me get this right
So everyone now thinks it is time to moved Boldin. I thought Boldin should have been moved last off-season or cut. Distraction over, done and gone. I remember reading we should keep him because he helps us win games and he’s cheap.
I happen to know for a fact that the Cards did not answer the phone when teams called wanting Boldin. Graves and Whisenhunt pretended to be interested in trading Boldin and were not. Didn’t Whisenhunt say during the owners meetings in California the Cards were a better team with Boldin than without him? Of course he did . This tells me they were not sincere when they said they would trade Boldin.
They lied to hurt Boldins imaginary market value because he was never really on the market. Drew Rosehuas was not given permission to shop for a team or a new contract . So ineffect the Cards management told the public one thing while really doing something else. Mike Sando pointed this out in a ESPN BLOG. Jeff Fisher and Jerry Colangelo both publicly stated to the press and Sirius NFL Radio that Graves did not answer the phone or return phone calls.
There is no doubt that Whisenhunt and Graves by way of two of the worst owners in Pro Football the Bidwills want this to situation to play out the way it has. They don’t want to pay Boldin, make an example of him to other players and want to make sure he is damange goods so he can’t command top dollar when he does leave. The Bidwills are the worst. Two of the worsst men in Pro Football the last half century. Other players will find out just as others have in the past.
I say cut Boldin now ala Larry Johnson. Why wait. Sign a pettion telling the Bidwills you want Boldin gone. After all he is a cancer. There is great talent at WR like Breaston, Doucet, Urban and Morey. The fan base would be happy, The management should be happy. Everybody happy. Me included.
After Q is gone the cycle will start anew with Breaston or Doucet or Wilson or maybe Dansby but it will happen because that’s what the Bidwills are about———Distraction. If they were not about distraction Boldin would be paid or gone period.
The fact the Boldin remains a Cardinal says as much about the Bidwills as it does Boldin becuase clearly they do not like Boldin and Boldin does not care for them. I share his sentiment.

For the record, I was one of the people asking for him to be traded before the 2009 draft.
Now, I only wanted him traded if we got good value in return. I thought we were deep enough at WR with Fitz, Breaston, Doucet, Urban, and Morey that we could afford to trade him and build depth in other area’s like LB and the OL.
by Pyromnc on Nov 11, 2009 1:34 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Also...
I remember something like that coming from Jeff Fisher but not Jerry Angelo. I remember seeing a report, cannot remember if it was ESPN or FoxSportNet, that said he was offering a 2nd round pick but we would not budge on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th round picks for him, that’s what Detroit got for Williams.

yea, I'd love to see one link
that includes a quote from anyone in the league saying that they called the Cardinals and literally got “no answer.”
Until them I’m calling BS on this entire argument.

Let me set the record straight
Pyro, because of the way we have have communicated lately, I know that you are not questioning the authenticity of what I am saying. I just believe that.
First I have the blog entry by Sando in print form in my posession. Second, I own several Sirius Satellite Radios and listen to NFL radio more than I should.
Remember Dave McGinnis the former Cardinal Head Coach. McGinnis is a Titans defense assistant and was Boldin’s rookie HC. Follow me now. McGinnis knows what Boldins brings to the playing field AND THE locker room. The Titans fans were clamoring for Mike Reinfeltd (GM) to go and get Boldin rather draft a rookie WR . They also were calling Sirius NFL RADIO BEFORE THE DRAFT discussing it with host. I know because I was listening. I am sure it was McGinnis who pushed management to acquire Boldin given his knowledge of Boldin’s character, talent and his past ties to the Cardinals organization.
I have mentioned I listen to NFL Radio on Sirius. Coaches come on NFL radio all the time (Whisenhunt comes on once a week). Fisher was interviewed and asked if he was interested in the Arizona WR and his response was “we called they never pick -up the phone or returned messages that we left”. The Nashville Tennessean had an article on line because I read it. Mentioning picks and rounds is a moot point. Boldin was NEVER on the market. My point is, if you REALLY WANT TO MOVE A PLAYER that player can be moved.
Jerry Colangelo of the Bears TOLD NFL Radio pre-draft that he was interested in Boldin and that the Cards DID NOT return his calls. He tried right up to the night before the draft. It was published in the Chicago Tribune on line.
Mixed and confusing signals are being sent here. If a guy is a problem then moved the guy. Unless of course keeping this players around for cannon fodder and to be a verbal pinata thereby deflecting attention away from poor player play by others (Wilson in Chicago game) or poor coaching decisions by the staff (Matt Leinart in Chicago game) is the purpose. Sure looks that way to me.
In this information age it is very easy to research fact from fiction. I’m no fan of the Bidwills, Graves or to some extent Whisenhunt but I would not come here to frabricate a story about how this has played out. That would make me no better than the Bidwills in terms of character. Clearly, you know I do not want that.
I do not share your desire for Boldin to remain in the desert. I am looking forward to the man the going some place else to finish his career contributing to a winning program, getting paid market value and going to Pro Bowls. Other great players have done it when they left the Cards I think Boldin will too.

great....."I heard" ....."I read"
Just provide one single, solitary link proving that anyone is actually reporting that the Cardinals simply never answered the phone.

they were smart to keep him this season...
he will always play hard because he’s Q the badass. After this season they should trade him and get something of value for him. Anquan has been very patient and has played hard while being underpaid. It would be going too far to try and keep him for 2010 without resigning him, and I don’t think he would resign with the Cards anyway unless they offered him quite a bit. So therefore they should trade him after this season ends for a high 2nd or a low 1st round pick. Then they could resign Dockett (if they decide they want to,) and fill the rest of the holes through the draft and free agency.
by CardsDefense on Nov 12, 2009 10:37 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
A good system
My thoughts on Q are this if you are in a system that let’s you be a star by playing to his strengths like arizona. You put up pro bowl numbers. You go to a different team for the money the chance u still put up huge numbers is not going to happen. The only teams that want him. Need him to complement the run or are just bad teams that need a quick fix. You could take any receiver in the league put him in our # 2 spot and he puts up big numbers. Fitz can’t be open all the time. Look at tj in Seattle he was a great # 2 now as the main man he has been ok but not a top WR. So yea you got your money but you are not getting the same numbers. You have to make excuses about it and defend against the people who are going to ? Was he worth it. It all comes down to do you want to win or get paid. I love Q I think more people need to play like him and just play. Players who get the big contracts don’t scream and 8itc4 about $ they play hard represent their team and then get rewarded.

Remember, too, Q's been here longer than the system's been good
Right?
So you’re saying you see no difference in performance of our #2 between Boldin, Breaston, and Urban? What about when we had Long out there at #3 or #4 or whatever travesty of Amercain football that turned out to be?
A system like ours will inflate numbers some, but it’s far from the whole story. Just go look at Q’s rookie season vs. Fitzgerald’s. There’s more to it than Warner setting records.

Q's great but as Bezie was sayin we have needs
besides his body has taken such a beating. If we can get a high 2nd round pick for him they should pull the trigger. especially if Beanie continues to improve. We could move towards having a balanced offense in the future. As long as we don’t miss in the draft it’s probably what’s best for the teams future.

I don't think the Boldin argument has really changed at all
Same situation, different day.
There was merit to trading him last year, there’s merit to trading him this year. The only argument that continues to defy any and all sense or logic is “cut him now.” If the situation was as dire as that would imply (which it isn’t even remotely close to), the better option would be to put him on IR and trade him away in the off-season. It’s basically the same measure as the Lions took with Kitna. Cut him off from the team, free up the roster spot. It might reduce trade value even further, but Q would still pull some weight. If it doesn’t look like he’s going to produce much throughout the rest of the year, it might actually help. It would be harder to look at him and say, well his numbers dropped off. Duh, he was on IR half the year.
Again, that’s a desperate measure for a temperature we’re not even close to. Stop being drama queens. This ain’t no soap.
by tw3kr on Nov 12, 2009 3:02 AM MST reply actions 0 recs
i dont want to trade Q
But if we can’t pay him what he wants then move him before he hits the open market. He just wants to be paid. For what he does. So do I. We all think we are under paid for the work we do. Every one on this site can relate to him. I don’t care who you are at least once in your life you have bad talked about your boss or company. Its a natural instinct to feel wanted. To get rewarded for the good things you do. Even if they don’t out way the bad.
