Who Would You Take from the Seattle Seahawks?
The Seattle Seahawks record(3-5) doesn't speak volumes from their team, as they do have talent if you look in the right places. This week, you can pick who you would want to be a member of the Arizona Cardinals. It can be a young or new player, a starter or back up, etc. You can also take their current contract status into consideration, as if we were actually signing the player. Also look at who may be leaving our team after this season. This one may be difficult considering they're a division rival but when it all comes down to it, it's for the betterment of the team. So with that being said, here's some picks I would make from the Seahawks.
Aaron Curry - This has to be one of the easiest picks, as Curry's only in his rookie season and has played very well so far. He will develop into a leader on the defense, and has a wide enough skill set to blitz, stop the run, or drop in coverage. Should one of our aging linebackers(Okeafor, Berry, Haggens) leave or retire, Curry would be a great replacement.
John Carlson - Carlson would be one of the best additions to the Cardinals offense. We currently are without a clear cut starting tight end, and Carlson would solve that problem. He would add another target to the already dangerous offense, and provide solid blocking along the offensive line.
Lofa Tatupu - Although Lofa hasn't had a productive year since he was sent to the pro bowl in 2007, he's still one of the best inside linebackers in the league. He's a passionate defender and improves the players around him. If Karlos Dansby does leave for a bigger contract next year, the defense would be fine with Tatupu in the middle.
Brandon Mebane - Membane has slowly become a force at defensive tackle since he arived in the league in 2007. He's underrated but can play the run and get enough pressure on the opposing quarterback, evidence being his 5.5 sacks last year. Bryan Robinson is near the end of his career and we don't know enough about Gabe Watson or Alan Branch just yet.
That's it for my list, and as you can see, defense is where I was leaning. The Hawks have good receivers in T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Nate Burleson, but they wouldn't be an improvement over the Cardinals receivers now. Matt Hasselbeck and Julius Jones also wouldn't be a step forward from where we're currently at. Their offensive line is rarely healthy and needs to be revamped. Who would you take from the Seattle Seahawks and why?

+1 Aaron Curry
This guy is great! Just imagine the pass rush we would have with him onboard!

Agree
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Aaron Curry does not provide much pass-rush.

Yeah... Curry's a Bust.
I’d much rather have had Peterson and that large contract of his.
In fact…. toss out the Green Bay game, and Ju-P has 20 tackles and 1 sack in 7 games.

"I’d much rather have had Peterson and that large contract of his."
Did you know that Aaron Curry is the second highest paid player in NFL history?

I would love to see that documentation...

2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles
This kind of idiocy which you have now spread to other blogs is why you were banned from Field Gulls.

9 sacks in college.
Curry may be a lot of things, but this

is decidedly incorrect…

Let me rephrase it then Fearless Frog
Imagine the improvements we would have in our linebacker corps! Any way around it, Curry is awesome and I would love to have him as a Cardinal.

Indeed.
I’m a big fan of Karlos Dansby though, I think it would be wise to retain him.

Agreed. He's very good.

Dansby is good...
Just not among highest paid players good. He is wanting Albert Haynesworth money, which Haynesworth wasn’t even worth.

You're hell-bent on downplaying anything Curry does
And nitpicking the mistakes he makes and blowing them out of proportion. Instant gratification isn’t guaranteed.
You can’t determine pass-rush by sacks only.

"You can’t determine pass-rush by sacks only."
Are you insinuating he’s been providing pass-rush but not connecting for the sacks, a la Darryl Tapp?
Actually, nevermind. This is totally the wrong place for this discussion, I’m sorry I bothered.

That was my point.
LeRoy Hill would be a good pick up. Marcus Trufant?
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Hands down, Curry...
…but I’d also take Max Unger. Had hoped he would have fallen to us in the 2nd round, no matter how unrealistic that was.
Also always thought Owen Schmitt was a badass too.

Watch out for David Hawthorne.
An undrafted free agent last year who is doing pretty well in place of Lofa tatupu. 2 FFs, 45+ tackles, 3 Interceptions, 3 sacks in his 4-5 games.

Kearny, or Carlson?
How about Patrick Kearny, or John Carlson?
by WeiWuWei on Nov 13, 2009 3:39 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Kerny?
Really? He’s past his prime and seems injury prone if you ask me. Carlson I’ll gladly take.

Kerney somehow has 4 sacks for us
And one against Warner. But he’s on a massive decline from his 2007 season.

The only correct answers here are "Aaron Curry" or "John Carlson"
Aaron Curry’s legit, and would be a beast for us in the middle.
Carlson’s been doing great despite the offensive woes of the Seahawks these past 2 seasons, and would just add a tremendous amount of flexibility to our offense and our Power formations.

Only correct answer?
Don’t discard Unger. A versatile G who can play C in a pinch. A 23 year old rookie who has started all 8 games of his career. Yeah, who would want him?

Josh Wilson fits what the Cardinals do
and could be a terror at nickel. He’s a pick 6 threat that would thrive playing from ahead.

True
He’d fit in just how you say. Would be an upgrade over Ralph Brown too.

John Carlson would be a perfect match for the Cardinals.
He isn’t an exceptional threat like Tony Gonzales or Antonio Gates, but he’s extremely reliable and would be an excellent check-down option if the WRs were covered.

Seahawks fan commentary here
Just for the record I moved to Arizona in 4th grade where I remained until high school graduation. I became a Seahawks fan a few years before that, being that I was born in Seattle. Arizona was a lovable loser in the 90’s with a bird mascot. They were the NFC’s Seahawks, so I adopted them as my NFC team. Then realignment happened and complicated things. But I’ve always considered Arizona my 2nd team. I rooted hard for you guys all through the playoffs last year. I wish you know ill will and in some ways I think of Arizona fans as a second family.
Some observations as a regular seahawk fan.
Mebane has been the Seahawks most valuable defender ever since he was drafted. Quite frankly, I thought he was shafted in 2008 for not making the pro-bowl. He led an otherwise horrible 2008 defense to a respectable ranking against the run by playing the “1” tech, and despite regularly taking double teams and eating space, led the team in sacks for most of the season (5.5) and finished with the team lead in QB hits (30+!). He was simply a monster. By not getting the pro-bowl nod or even serious consideration, I thought he was Seattle’s little secret, which would come in handy when his FA comes up. Hearing you guys talk about him here worries me that maybe he’s secretly a high priority for other GM’s too. : (
The Cardinals have some nice young talent at CB, but Trufant would be an upgrade. He’s in his prime, has two probowls, is more consistent than his INT totals indicate, and is remarkably well rounded (good in cover, can ball hawk, and one of the teams best tacklers).
Josh Wilson is an exciting return man but has actually been held out of return duties by the Seahawks because he is so insanely valuable to their secondary that they can’t afford the injury risk of special teams. He is growing in coverage and is already about as good a ball hawk as Trufant, and is still improving. He’s a massive threat to pick 6 and would be one of the most intimidating nickle corners in the NFL (he was recently promoted to starter from Nickel).
Tapp is a much better DE than his low/moderate sack totals indicate. He has improved every year and now consistently generates pass rush. Seriously, in the majority of the snaps he’s in on, he gets to the QB and forces the QB to step up in the pocket or abandon it altogether. He’s about as disruptive as Kerney was in 2007, but without the sacks to show for it. That won’t last forever. I would not be shocked if very soon Tapp posts a 10 sack season. He’ll be a FA soon and figures to be cheap. He has the potential to be a massive bargain signing for somebody (hopefully Seattle).
Hawthorne is a stud and dirt cheap. He’s been so good (and not just recently), that its sparked debate among Seahawks fans regarding 3 time pro-bowler Lofa Tatupu. A 100% Hawthorne is not as valuable as a 100% Tatupu, but he’s still very good.
Everyone knows the Cardinals have a bad OL, particularly the interior. Seattle also has a bad OL. There is one exception for Seattle though. Rob Sims. After an inconsistent beginning to his career, Sims has improved to become an above average guard and easily the best OL on the Seahawks roster. He’s not a perfect fit for the Seahawks ZBS system but has been very good regardless. He could be a minor star for Arizona and a big upgrade. Chris Spencer has also came a long ways and at times is an above average, difference making Center.
Two final names I’d mention: Leroy Hill and Lawrence Jackson.
Hill is an above average OLB who is a good blitzer, good tackler and good “blow-upper” who destroys RB’s and TE’s. He’s kind of like a poor man’s Aaron Curry. If you are ok with his moderate injury history and $6 million per year contract, he’d be an upgrade.
Jackson is improving in his 2nd season. He’s exceptionally well rounded. He’s great in pursuit. Good in coverage (by DE standards), good against the run, powerful and strong (can move inside on passing downs ala Justin Tuck), and is developing as a pass rusher (4 sacks in 8 games this year). Not a stud yet but should be starting to appear on your radar. And I say this as someone who was recently a big critic of Jackson.

We have an unhealthy man-crush on Nick Reed
He’s undersized for a d-lineman but he has done well in limited time. Even scored a touchdown against the Jaguars on a fumble return. He’s fast around the edges and more of a pass-rusher than a run-stuffer.
