Former Arizona Cardinal Lance Long a starter in Kansas City?
I just read that due to Dwayne Bowe's four game suspension, Lance Long and Chris Chambers are going to be the starters at wide receiver this week for the Kansas City Chiefs. It seems that Lance taking the job over in Kansas City with Haley was a great move for his career. Now let's see what he can do with it. He had 74 yards against the Jaguars two weeks ago, but quickly came back to Earth last week versus the Raiders. But that was with Bowe still active.
I think this is awesome for Lance. I hope he does well. Did the Cardinals do the right thing with cutting Long?

We did the right thing, def
Look how it’s turning out for both parties.
I’m happy Long is catching on there — I’m frankly amazed to see him starting, but it seems he’s been on the rise — and things seem to be clicking for him. It’s a better situation for him, imo.

I'm with you
He wasn’t catching on in this offense, but he’s earning a Wes Welker role in KC. I’m glad it’s working out for him and happy that he was able to find the last chance he needed to be able to make it. Again, luckily it was with Haley and all of the other former Cardinals he’s picked up.

Wasn't playing well in games for us.
He might become a good receiver but I don’t if it would have happened with us. He would not have gotten the playing time he is getting in KC. He also benefits from having Haley around who is great for receivers.

good for him
I wish him the best but this has more to do with the talent at their WR spot. Just take a second to consider that their starting wideouts now are both guys cut from their teams since the beginning of the season. That says it all.

And really, what chance did Long have here? At best he could hope to get ahead of Urban but Doucet would stay ahead of him strictly from the investment perspective into Early. Injuries were his only hope of making the 45-man active roster and his one opportunity didn’t amount in much.
WRs are a dime a dozen in this league, ‘ell, penny a gross. Long’s realistic only chance was with the Chiefs under Haley. I’m thrilled for him and hope he turns into the Cards’ Wes Welker (think San Diego wished they’d kept him?).
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

Yeah
We never really needed Long with the receivers we have. That’s good for him though.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

That sums it up. I think everybody is happy for him.

Long
I would rather have Long than Urban, who usually catches balls thrown perfectly into his hands, in stride, but who doesn’t adjust when the throw isn’t perfect. All it takes is an injury to one of the premier receivers to put one of these guys into a pressure situation, so the backups are very important. Good to see Doucet making strides. Hopefully letting Long go won’t come back to haunt them.

I disagree
Urban can’t even catch balls thrown perfectly to his hands.

+1 Boo Urban
His body of work has fallen into the crapper. He needs to show some better consistency before many of us will trust him as a backup in the near future.

guys, guys, guys
We’ve gotta remember we’re talking about a #4 WR. There’s a reason for that. He’s not perfect but I think if you look around the league he’s one of the better #4 wideouts and if Doucet has truly jumped him then he’s gotta be the best #5 wideout ever.

Appreciate the perspective
Well when put into that perspective he is a great #5 receiver, and a decent #4. But you would expect him to catch some of the passes that he has dropped this year.

Correction accepted
He has been hot and cold, or better warm and cold. The two weeks before the Seahawks game Urban dropped or just didn’t catch very catchable balls and caused the offense to punt. No more I say! I hope it’s official that Doucet is #4 on the depth chart.

You're right we do.
If he can make it through next years cuts it will be great to see him again, and of course the hype of KC vs AZ.

It looks like he is going to stay there.
Our backups are better than what they have in KC right now.

Yeah, it would be quite the feat to go from practice squad to 3rd on the depth chart to starting to cut next year
It won’t take a stellar performance this season for him to stick, based on competition.

And from what I have heard Leonard Pope has played well over there too.

Pope just needed a wake up call...
I know he was plagued with injuries but how many times did we see the ball bounce off his hands and Pope make the “Oh well” motion. Getting cut will be the best thing for his career.

The big thing for me was effort after the catch
He would get it in his hands and just kind of trundle along without really looking where he’s going, waiting to get taken down. For being so big and kinda athletic, he could tear up some great YAC… From what I recall, his blocking was decent, just like you said — needed a wake-up call.

Big win over Pittsburgh today!
Congrats Todd, but how come you couldn’t do it with the Cards!? lol jk
That’s Pendergast’s fault. So Clancy, how come you couldn’t do it with the Cards!? (not counting the ’07 victory)

yep....Long and Pope are both starters over there too
Yesterday they had 4 catches for 63 yards and a TD. Not bad for a couple of castoffs.

Agreed.
Just because they didn’t fit in here, doesn’t mean they’re not starting potential.
