Potential of Chris "Beanie" Wells
I'm a horrible evaluator of NFL talent and don't follow the Arizona Cardinals all that closely(I'm a Packers fan, see you guys later in the season). I watched Beanie play in college when he was playing my Wisconsin Badgers with the Ohio State Buckeyes but college success doesn't equal NFL success(Ron Dayne, Michael Bennett, Brian Calhoun, etc). I've noticed that he has had a couple of good games these last two weeks and could be emerging as a starter. Any thoughts on what his NFL potential is?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

I'm not the best long term judge of talent...
But he looks a lot like a Brandon Jacobs smash back couples with Steven Jackson. Which is a powerful combo to be compared to. I think he’ll be the starter before too long, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t until next year so he earns it through a preseason battle.
After that, hopefully we have the Arizona version of Adrian Peterson brewing (not to bring up AP, since we could have had him, but you know what I’m saying).

Coaching and Conditioning
The Bean is a beast and there is little doubt in my mind that he is on the verge of becoming a premier back in the NFL.
The biggest reason for this, from what I’ve read, is how well Beanie has responded to the coaching and conditioning he’s gone through since signing.
Apparently they have basically reshaped Beanie’s body to work better within the NFL/Cardinals system, and he has responded very well. He was very top-heavy with those smaller feet of his at OSU…which worked fine in that system (though likely contributed to some of the injury issues), but would have been (as scouts reported) a real detriment to him in the pros.
I don’t have the specs in front of me but his speed and strength have been maintained/improved while his weight has been conditioned to withstand the NFL, making him a blocking/receiving asset as well as minimize chances of injury.
Having said all that, Beanie has been and will remain fundamentally uber-talented. He’s big, lightening fast, has fantastic vision and every week in the NFL he has improved and gotten better.
I don’t expect that to change barring injury.
I for one am very excited to have him on the team, and am extremelly pleased at how he has been/is being transitioned into more and more of a presence by a good, patient coaching staff…we may have struck SuperGold with this cat. We’ll see.

Hadn't really heard anything along those lines
Interesting.
The big thing for me is the improvement every week — I think he’s turning into something special, also.

Could Be My Head Up My Glass
Read a big article about Beanie’s conditioning somewhere online. Seemed to make sense to me, but I can’t remember where I read it…I thought it was interesting, too. lol

There were reports from the official site (aka Darren Urban) I believe.....
that talked about John Lott (strength and conditioning) coach wanting Beanie to get his weight down to the 220 range.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

took longer than I thought but found a few links
He lost 22 pounds between the time he was drafted and when he reported to camp.
NFL.com says he’s down about 18 pounds and in the 225 range.
Here’s our man Urban talking a couple of times about Lott’s mission to get Beanie down in the mid to low 220’s. (link one and two)
For what it’s worth he also pushed Hightower to get down in the same range this season.

That's what I read...
thanks for the links! I thought I read that at the official site, but I couldn’t find it. Sometimes I link from place to place so much I have no idea where I end up, and I figured I had read about that at www.sportsfanaticforever.com (<—not a real link) or whatever. haha…
Anyway thanks again. :)

+1
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.
