Update: Dockett was fined today $7500 for the elbow to Hasslebeck.
Arizona Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett is facing more backlash from an elbow that was pressed into Matt Hasselbeck's throat on Sunday. Tim Hasselbeck, Matt's brother who was also a quarterback in the league(For the Cardinals in 2007) had this to say:
"Let me tell you something, that was a dirty, cheap shot move by Darnell Dockett," Tim Hasselbeck told 710ESPN Seattle. "I don't care what he wants to say now. I've been on teams with good guys, and I've been on teams with bad guys -- bad guy. And, what he did was flat-out dirty and I hope the league fines him, and I hope they fine him heavily, because I think he deserves it."
A poll of 99 NFL players done a month ago by Sporting News asked who they thought the top 5 dirtiest players were. In order they went, 1. Richie Incognito, 2. Hines Ward, 3. Kevin Mawae, 4. Harvey Dahl, 5. Darnell Dockett. So far the league has yet to issue a fine Dockett's way.

Matt Hasselbeck
Has anyone seen what Matt Hasselbeck has to say about it?

Matty actually downplayed the entire thing
Which is why I don’t see why everyone is blaming him for this….

Yeah Matt hasn't said anything but his brother sure is a douche
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

His wife is (or was(like I watch it)) on the view
She was the ultra conservative religious nut for the group.
She got famous by being on Survivor.

I do think DD should get a fine
I just don’t think it was that big of a deal in the scope of the game

As a follow-up
It should not be much of a fine and no suspension. It not’s like he slams his elbow into his throat. It looks to me like he just pushes off him to get up. It’s still an unneccessary, but its not like he slams done hard with an elbow drop from the top rope like bulldog Bob Brown used to do when I was a kid watching wrestling.
I think it is pretty common for tacklers to push off on the RB’s when they tackle them as they get up (admittedly not normally to the throat). Using others to assist you in getting up is actually coached in some places. All those little presses and leaning on the other players add up over the game and can wear a player down by the 4th quarter. A lot of RB’s retaliate then get flagged for 15yds. QBs are protected but Hasselback has tucked the ball and become a runner well before he is tackled.
My final recommendation would be minimal fine (mainly because its Dockett (another player I would let slide with a warning)), no suspension.

+1
although to drive the point home i would like to see a strong fine. DD has too many penalties that really hurt us. We all know $$ is VERY important to him so I say hit him with a solid fine and be done. Needs to be more than a small number though.

One thing I have to say,
Cry more you bitches, cry more.

Dockett
is aggressive but far from being in the top 5 dirtiest players. Back in September, Sports Illustrated did the same type of interview with 296 NFL players and the top guys were not Cardinals. So now I think the overhyped elbow is making him stand out so people forget about dirtier players. The NFL has become too critical at times and they are going to make examples of bad types of behavior on the field and issue fines.

While I agree with you
The poll was done 1 month ago, well before the elbow. I always considered Dockett an aggressive/emotional player as well, but I guess there is another version of him that we aren’t aware of.

According to Chris Mortensen the money goes to charity.
He reported a few years ago that the money is split between three charities. I don’t know if that is still the case but here was the charities listed back in 2007: Brian Piccolo Cancer Center, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Research Center and the NFL Players Association Players’ Assistance Trust.
