Leinart deserves an apology.
Apologize now Cards !
they ddn't need Warner ... they needed to PLAY for leinart .. O and D and WHIZ (except doucett), owe the poor bastard an apology ... they just stopped trying (even Fitz just stopped on a Leinart scramble) this team better start playing for ANY QB or they can forget getting anywhere and no, i'm no leinart zealot... but that was pathetic and I don't mean leinart's playing ... these guys wanta be elite ... they better start proving it .... every effing down ... NO MATTER who is QB

The majority
of Leinart’s passes weren’t even catchable, not even by the likes of Fitzgerald. He relies too heavily on the RB’s and dump off passes that go for 2-3 yards. I saw nothing from Leinart today that makes me think he’s a starter in this league. And I wish he’d close his mouth for once.

I suppose Becht fumbled on purpose too, huh?
Give me a break, they didn’t “stop playing” for Leinart, Leinart just clearly wasn’t ready to step in today. I’m not hating on #7 or anything, I’m actually really excited that he wants to stay here and he wants to get better. He’s been nothing but humble and respectful while sitting behind Warner, and I’m proud of him for that. But when you step in and don’t get the ball to the open receivers, that’s kind of on you. And Leinart doesn’t have the rapport with the receivers that Warner has. Todd Hailey made Warner just trust his receivers and take the shots down field to them, even when they were covered. Also thevanilla play calling has very much to do with it. We play the Rams twice a year, and they know all about the Cards, and vise versa. So when they’ve been game planning for Warner’s Cards and learning his plays and his tendencies, of course they’re going to eat Leinart up. They’re playing against a decent inexperienced Qb who’s running basic, conservative schemes. But you have to give Leinart credit for not turning the ball over. And having Leinart in the game further proves that we desperately need to upgrade the offensive tackles. Lets face it, Warner makes the line look way better than it really is. We need to promote Keith or Johnson (both?) and use the 1st round pick on a tackle. But they have improved in the run, but that goes more to the interior linemen.

Leinart doesn't deserve an apology, but the lynch mob can relax.
I’d put a lot on the coaching staff for not putting more of an emphasis on developing Leinart. I love what they’re doing here, and I’m glad they’re preparing our guys to win, but developing Leinart is very crucial right now. Warner’s only here one more season, Leinart HAS to be ready when he retires.

I agree with whoever posted this
although i dont think it was AS BAD as you “effing” make it sound. I did notice a drop off in effort when Leinart came in and was very dissappointed as well as bothered by it. That wasnt the only reason for his struggles. He had some overthrown balls, a miscommunication which are all products of zero reps. the play calling also went ultra conservative. none the less he didnt play necessarily bad. He definitely needs to improve as does the team in effort
Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

I almost thought you were the OP for a minute with the similar names.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

The Leinart topic is way over done by this point
I can see where scsa69 is coming from and give him props for standing up for our back up QB. But when you think about it, stepping in at that position is not like hopping back on a bike after 10 years of not riding and you can’t put all the blame on others. He’s still young, slightly inexperienced and not in synch with everyone. Where as Warner’s been around how long? Played with this group of receivers how many games? He still has a lot of room for growth and I can see moments of brilliance “doucet reception”. But no apology would really be necessary. He just needs to shut the nay sayers up when it comes his time…. which when it’s his time we’ll probably have some struggles to start but it’ll pay off. Oh yea, I did notice a little less enthusiasm when he took over too. So others need to put in a little more effort.

10 for 14; 74 YDS; 0 Interceptions; 0 Fumbles...
…but most importantly, a W.
Not sure what the frantic, dramatic, red faced mouth-foaming is all about that I’ve been reading and hearing in the media.
Seriously I can’t figure it out.
I’m really not sure what some people were expecting out of Matt Leinart. He came in cold to manage a very complex offensive system that pretty much demands timing and reps in order to work in the way that we’re all used to with Warner at the helm.
When the man that has that timing from first string practice/games goes down, it’s very difficult to ask the bench to produce the same way, especially with an offensive scheme as complex as the Cards’.
The game was managed in the way that gave the Cardinals the best chance to win, and considering the above, the way to win happened to be to play the clock and not turn the ball over.
Had we been losing when Warner went down, I do believe the game plan would have been much different, and I may be singing a different song right now…but as it stands Leinart did precisely what his head coach asked him to do, and it worked.
Win number 7.
Relax… :)

Good points
I don’t understand the backlash against Leinart either. I thought he did fine under the circumstances.

Yeah, it's definitely weird...
There’s folks out there that for whatever reason just hate the crap out of Matt Leinart.
Must be Cal fans. LOL
Honestly, there’s no way to judge Leinart at this point based on what we’ve seen this year, in my opinion. Personally, I get nervous when one of our starters misses just ONE practice. Leinart hasn’t practiced with the first string at all…those practices, games and reps go so far into creating chemistry and rhythm with not just receivers, but with lineman and everyone else on the field.
To have asked Leinart to thread fiery needles downfield like Warner would have been incredibly stupid and would have likely cost us the game.
We didn’t have to do any such thing because of a fairly comfortable lead, and instead we were intelligent about the situation by playing the clock and protecting the ball (well, at least Leinart protected the ball, anyway).
That just gives me more confidence in our coaching and in Leinart for executing precisely what he was asked to do.

I don't understand either extreme
There are guys who have man crushes and want to spend time in the hot tub with Matt and guys who can’t stand the sight of him.
He did his job and got the W. That’s all he needed this game and all that we should expect out of a backup.

Yeah
We got people like HardHate, and people who love him but hate Warner.
There is almost no middle ground in the stuff I read about him.

My only gripe is that he couldn't move the chains.
Too many 3 and outs, not even a drive for a field goal. Otherwise he was fine. But the fact that we couldn’t even get a field goal worries me. Coaches need to give him more reps with the 1st team offense during practice, and more time during games in which we have a lead. He’s been in 5 games, but besides the game yesterday, the most he’s thrown is 6 times during those games, he’s thrown 11 times combined (Sunday’s game not included).

Partially by design
Whisenhunt admitted to shrinking the playbook when Warner went out to minimize the chance for any turnovers (not a bad strategy considering we were up 21-3), but it didn’t give a completely accurate picture of what Leinart may have been capable of if we didn’t intentionally go conservative at that point.
Having said that, it will be good to see Warner back under center as soon as possible.

At the same time...
Lionheart is gonna be fine. But he is not near as accurate as Warner.
Leinart didn’t have much time to look down field, so that explains the dink and dunks. St. Louis started bringing the house and Leinart just looked rushed. I rewatched the second half and saw him loose his footwork and not stand in the pocket as long as a seasoned QB would.
Give him starters reps, a playbook for him and our emerging run game and I think we could still beat a lot of teams.
They are who we thought they were!

Apology for Lienart ?
what moron suggested this. this is pro football, you either put up or shut up.to suggest the team quit trying when Warner left the game is idiotic. it may have looked like Fitz quit on him to a rookie, but what actually happened was a misread of the coverage by Lienart. It is extremely difficult to come into a game cold and hit on all cylinders. I believe Lienart will do well for the Cardinals when it’s his turn. Why don’t you apologize to congress for the mess they’ve made of things.

Kurt Warner...
….is the heart and soul of this team. The players know it, the coachs know it…even Matt Leinart knows it. It’s hard to beat Kurt or to follow in the footsteps of a soon-to-be HOF quarterback.
