Score 28 pts in the first half and never look back
is how you beat the Titans.

What I noticed about the Titans from last night....
- First they can be run on but it’s very important that we run between the tackles. Their linebackers and ends can string plays out towards the sidelines and normally shut them down. When the Texans had any success it was running right at the heart of the defense.
- There are two ways to shut down their running game and thus shut down the offense. First we can jump out to a big lead early and never let them get it closer than two scores. If the game is close though we’ll have to not only stack the box with eight or nine guys but also keep a dedicated spy on Vince Young. VY simply is not an accurate or dependable passer but he can beat you by escaping the pocket and taking off. Our defensive line and pass rushers will have to be extremely dedicated to maintaining their pass rush lanes and getting out of control. Chris Johnson is an absolute beast and he can take one to the house with even the smallest crack of daylight. We’ll have to be sure tacklers as well as cognizant of cut back lanes.
- Our passing game should feast on this secondary, as long as we can protect the passer. Their D-line is can create some pressure without blitzing but the secondary is nothing to write home about.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Totally agree...
We just have to maintain gap discipline and minimize their gains. They are going to run the ball, but if we can stop the big ones, we should be okay. If the D plays like it did against Carolina, it is over. CJ will have a field day.
by jallred350 on Nov 24, 2009 10:33 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Stacking the box with 9 is a terrible idea
That’s how CJ breaks off the big ones — he’s so fast, he disappears for a second, gets through the line and suddenly has nobody in front of him. We’ll do better to rely on discipline…

I think this will be a tough game
Tennessee is playing well on their 4 game winning streak, and they run the ball very well. If we can limit Chris Johnson to yards but not TDs, we can force Vince Young to try and beat us, which I don’t believe he can do.
Our passing game should be able to have a field day against the Titans, their secondary is not good, and we have some of the best WRs in the game.
We should also be able to run aginst the Titans, but we need to keep running even if they get early stops.
All in all, we should win this game, but aren’t going to be able to just go through the motions and expect it to work out the way we want.
We all bleed Cardinal Red, but most of us don't recognize it!
by robloosli on Nov 24, 2009 8:20 AM MST reply actions 0 recs
Gonna be a tough game for sure.
Tennessee has a ton of confidence and momentum right now.
I think you hit it on your first key, stopping the run. If we can at least contain Johnson from getting touchdowns and make sure Young does not run on us, we should be fine.
by Pyromnc on Nov 24, 2009 8:26 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Also, we cannot forget about Lendale White. He hasn’t been used much this year, but he can still be a threat in the running game.
by Pyromnc on Nov 24, 2009 8:27 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I actually don't think this game will be any tougher than any other road game thus far.
I see this game one of two ways:
1) we get 14 points in the first quarter and deflate the balloon and make Tennessee play catch up the rest of the game, another 10 for 24 by half time and then win 37-10.
2) we come out flat and its a game decided on the last drive.
I think the first version is more likely at this time.
by Drullin'OverDaCards on Nov 24, 2009 9:27 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
We also shouldn't forget that the Titans haven't exactly beaten great teams
Sure they have a four game winning streak but look at those four teams.
Jacksonville – Arguably their best win and that’s only if you consider the Jag’s 6-4 record as legit. We obviously beat the Jags pretty soundly as did the Seahawks (41-0). Their six wins have come at the hands of Houston, Tennessee, Stl. Louis, Kansas City, the Jets and Buffalo. There’s not much to brag about there.
San Fran – We all know they’re sinking faster than the Titanic. They’ve lost 5 of 6 and it took 24 second half points for the Titans to win.
Buffalo – The Bills are terrible and I doubt this needs anymore explanation.
Houston – Last night was a good game but we all saw what Houston was when we played them. An interesting group of guys with some talent but not a playoff worthy team.
Bottom line the Texans have strung together four wins versus mediocre (at best) competition. They are one dimensional on offense and the defense is about average. This is a game that the Cardinals should win.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

This is true
They are 4-6 for a reason.

Titans defense has definitely improved since bye
Compare before+after on games vs Texans and Jaguars:
—vs Texans (before): gave up 34 points
—@ Texans (after): gave up 17 points
Texans have been averaging ~22.6 ppg vs other opponents
—@ Jaguars (before): gave up 37 points
—vs Jaguars (after): gave up 13 points
Jaguars have been averaging ~18.6 ppg vs other opponents
Conclusion: the Titans have gone from a very weak defense to better than average. The Cardinals have averaged 25.0 ppg this season; if “5 points below average” holds for this game, look for them to score ~20 points Sunday.
There’s more (go look where nfl.com has the Texans’ pass offense ranked), but I don’t want to get too negative. Let’s just say, in the words of Han Solo: “I’ve got a bad feeling about this”.

Vince = Key to the game
I was watching the highlights of the game and I think it was Chris Breman (sp?) who said that Vince had a strong game. Strong? What? 12/22 with a 116 yards and 1 TD is a strong performance? Oye…
They are who we thought they were!

You're forgetting his 18 rushing first downs
by tw3kr on Nov 24, 2009 12:18 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Is he a QB or and RB than?
Running QB’s don’t win games over an extended period of time. Steve Young said it in the pregame blab, a QB’s gotta do it with his arm.

Well, yeah, but that's totally different than what you were talking about first
Having a “strong game.” No turnovers, managed the offense, kept drives alive, etc. Titans are not exactly pass-first.
by tw3kr on Nov 25, 2009 12:59 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Point taken.
He kept drives alive, agreed. I guess a “strong game” is a relative term.

Contain
We won’t be able to stop CJ all day…he’s gonna break a couple.
But despite that I say jam the box and trust our corners to cover well. ADub will spy, and do it well, limiting VY’s run threat. There aren’t many backs in the league that can lay the wood on a running QB like ADub can.
If we can keep their runs pretty much in check (out of the end zone) and score points ourselves I really don’t see us having too much trouble with this team.
Their weaknesses definitely outweigh their strengths, in my opinion.
Cardinals 28, Titans 17

Titan fan here
I’m not here to talk smack or anything. I just wanted add a little bit of info to clear up some misperceptions.
1. How can you stack 9 guys in the box and still have a spy for VY? I don’t get that one.
2. One poster stated that the Titans haven’t beaten anyone. Well, look at the record of the teams that Cardinals have beaten.
Jacksonville (poster claims they’re not legitimate), Houston(poster claims not playoff worthy), Seattle (not exactly intimidating), Giants (recently lost 4 games in a row), Chicago(sinking ship), Seattle again, St. Louis (don’t need to explain).
It actually could be said that the Cardinals haven’t played anyone. I’m not saying it but using Bezekira ’s logic, one can conclude that thought.
3. VY was 12-22 for the game for 116 yards. However, he personally rushed for 73 yards.
So factor that into his stats. Schaub passed for 300 yards but the Texans were still outgained by the Titans. Isn’t that more important?
4. Some are saying that you have to quickly get up on the Titans by making them play from behind. Titans offense limits the opposition’s time of possession so it’s difficult to just run out to a 21-0 lead unless you get some early turnovers.
Look forward to the game and your thoughts!

I don't know about point 4
In the Titans 4 wins their time of possession was pretty equally split with the opposition with the exception of the Jags game ( their rush defense is mediocre). If Kurt Warner gets close to equal possession time in the Titans game, that will give him plenty of time to tear apart the worst pass defense in the league. It will be a good game.
by DisplacedAZfan on Nov 25, 2009 9:29 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
In our defense,
we have been far from the worst pass defense in the league during the current win streak. Nick Harper is the sole man who makes our D worse.

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

LOL@ these comments
Im not here to talk trash or gloat but seriously guys. I am a warner fan, I like the guy personally. What he did singlehandedly in taking a perrenial basement dwelling franchise like yours to the Superbowl last year with his arm and a whole lot of luck speaks volumes to his play.
I’m a Titans fan and to see the audacity of you guys after one winning season in 35 or whatever appalls me. You wanted vince to beat you with his arm, said he couldn’t do it….well he did. you say we didn’t beat any quality teams, but look at your opponents. We play in one of the toughest divisions in football and you guys play the rams, seachickens, and the 49erds. you haven’t had a running game in years and youre gonna talk smack about CJ. Hows that working for you?
If you really analyze last year and poll anybody outside of AZ, everyone will tell you that the ‘Cards" just fell in place last year. Making it to the superbowl was just plain old luck. I hope you don’t really think you will make it again.
PS i rem in the offseason some az fans were saying get rid of boldin. if you still feel that way, we will take him. god knows we need another good receiver since vince ‘cant’ throw over 387 yards.

At your home, with our starting QB inactive, your team wins on the last play of the game.
and your talking smack.
Fine, Smack this – One team that played tonight in Tennessee will be in the playoffs at the end of this season and it won’t be the ones wearing blue.

Drullin', you should be proud of yourself.
You nailed it:
I see this game one of two ways:
1) we get 14 points in the first quarter and deflate the balloon and make Tennessee play catch up the rest of the game, another 10 for 24 by half time and then win 37-10.
2) we come out flat and its a game decided on the last drive.
Well, almost…
I think the first version is more likely at this time.
Can’t wait to see how this prediction turns out:
Smack this – One team that played tonight in Tennessee will be in the playoffs at the end of this season and it won’t be the ones wearing blue.
GO TITANS!

I did nail this game, and I nailed which team will be in the playoffs as well.
Version 1 assumes warner is playing which at the time I posted it he and the staff were both saying he would play. Version 2 was Lienart.
Drubaru, I do have not a problem with your post. Titans won and I wish them well, but rick23 has never posted on sbnation (or just created a new identity to talk smack) says he’s not here to talk smack or gloat then talks smack and gloats his whole post. After his team was damn lucky to come away with a W at home against a team who according to him whose only good player did not play. He should just be happy the Titans have not been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention yet.
by Drullin'OverDaCards on Nov 30, 2009 9:43 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Point taken. It really was a great prediction.
You’ve obviously watched a lot of football in your lifetime. Hey, I don’t mind the Cards in the playoffs. I just think its a hair too early to eliminate the Titans. Trust me, we over at Music City Miracles understand the statistical probability of us making the playoffs is miniscule. But then again, so was the probability of Vince Young pulling off the Music City March last Sunday.
C’mon, Card fans, jump on the bandwagon! We’ll see you in the Super Bowl! (It’s the only way you’ll get a chance at revenge this year.)
This one's for you, #9.
