RotB Pick'em: Week 8 Results & Week 9 Picks

((My apologies for the delay; the movers arrived yesterday with the household items and internet finally started working today so I can wrap this up on my "real" PC!))

As much as we would like to forget the Cardinals' game against Carolina, many of us would like to forget our performance in the eighth week of the Pick'em League.  Many finished with three or four correct picks (myself included) and are feeling the hurt in the overall standings; some weathered the wild week well with six wins (AJ, bclairao, blank_38, Thomaldo, and wongy) and share the Week Won Point evenly (0.20 each).  Congratulations to y' all.

This is the last week new participants can get in on the action and meet the eligibility requirements.  To be eligible for the Pick'em Championship, participants need to have picked a total of nine weeks of the season (minimum) with the last two weeks being mandatory.  The highest qualifying winning percentage takes home the title and some Cardinals prize swag.

And before I get buried in unpacking...

Cincinnati (Gut tells me Ravens but gut hasn’t been good to me lately)
Chicago (I pick against the Cards every road game and they win; don’t fix something that ain’t broke!)
New England (May be the only game I can find locally)
Seattle (Bleh.)
San Francisco (Nearly snuck past the Colts)
NYGiants (Keep picking them and they lose; don’t fix something that ain’t broke!)
Philadelphia (Bleh, nothing solid to go on here)
Pittsburgh (Gut again, probably wrong again.)

We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!

Feeling it today...

….going with the Cards against Chicago. Of course, now they’ll lose.

This is where I work my way up

Bal – They’ll get payback
Ari – A good road team so far, they need a win
Pats – Should handle the Phins at home
Seattle – Don’t want the Hawks to win, but Detroit is bad
San Fran – They should win this
Giants – They are desperate for a win
Dallas – playing good ball right now
Pit – Will hand Denver second loss in a row

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Some tough picks this week...

Baltimore – Baltimore will not make the mistakes they made last time they played them.
Arizona – Coming off a tough loss, the Cards will look to rebound.
New England – Pats should not have a huge problem beating the Phins.
Seattle – If St. Louis can beat Detroit than Seattle should be able to.
Tennessee – Looked much better last week and they’ll continue to look good this week.
New York Giants – The Giants are in huge trouble if they lose this one, this is a must win.
Philadelphia – The Philly secondary will shut down Romo.
Denver – Denver’s defense will be a nagging pest to Big Ben and their running game.

Geez....talk about some suckage on my part.....gotta get back on top

CIN – Two good teams coming off big wins….going with the home team
ARI – going with my heart instead of my mind
NE – Pats at home….easy pick
DET – Screw the Hawks
TEN – Titans take down the 9ers
NYG – Giants get up off the carpet
PHI – Philly takes down the Boys
PIT – Denver was exposed last week…..

On second thought….not feeling so good about these picks. Too many picks with my heart (against the NFC West).

Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Week 9 Picks

CIN – Benson needs to run in this one.
ARI – “They are who we thought they were.” Cards pull off a win this time!
NE – Had a bye week to prepare and should beat Miami.
SEA – Strong enough to beat the Lions.
TEN – They win 2 in a row.
SD – Giants can’t stop Rivers with their secondary.
PHI – Dallas is OK but the Eagles are doing too good right now.
PIT – Denver won’t get to Ben and pressure him.

CIN – The divisional leaders are home underdogs to one of their arch rivals? What more bulletin board material do you need? They should be playing with fire, and that’ll be enough to best Baltimore.
ARI – Chicago’s o-line is a mess, and their running game hardly gets going. We’ll be focused following the debacle against Carolina, and our defense should get a few picks off Favre, Jr.
NE – Belichick coming off of a bye just dominates. Don’t be surprised if this is a blowout.
SEA – I really like Detroit (yeah, that’s right), but their only talented offensive players (Stafford, Smith, Johnson) are all banged up. Seattle’ll make a statement with this game.
SF – Interesting. Alex Smith or Vince Young? In this case, I think Smith takes it, though the Titans might be playing with some extra fire after finally picking up a W.
SD – The Giants’s are on a three game losing streak because Eli’s heel has yet to heal, and because their secondary has been exposed. While the Chargers may not get pressure on Eli to force him into bad situations, the Chargers’ forte is the deep ball, so.. yeah.
PHI – Philly > Dallas. Always and forever. No matter what.
PIT – The Steelers seem to just be picking up steam, where as the Broncos will start losing steam of their own after getting blown out by the Ravens. Easy win here for Pitt’s D, who’ll force Orton into beating them (and that won’t happen).

BAL – ravens’ll get their revenge.
AZ – bears haven’t faired well against teams over .500, minus that fluke steelers win.
NE – ’phins got em last year with the wildcat.. hopefully the pats adjust this time around.
SEA – hasselbeck will pick the lions apart.
SF – niners are better than their record indicates.
PHI – two resurgent teams, but i think the eagles will come out on top.
PIT – low scoring affair in this one.

It would seem that way after the past couple of weeks...

I need to stop putting the Giants’ game on the docket. They’ve burned me four weeks running!
