What should we do with Leinart?
As most of you probably know, I am one of the Cardinals fans who thinks that Leinart has a lot of upside, and we should try to let him get some gametime whenever it is possible, but after seeing how it looks like Warner's hip injury is bothering him more than he is saying it is I'm wondering if it is time to let him get his shot.
Don't get me wrong, Kurt Warner is one of my favorite football players of all time, I have been a fan of him since I first saw him with the 1999 St. Louis Rams, and I think that he still has the talent to play well, but I'm starting to get concerned. As we saw on Sunday, even though Kurt is capable of some amazing things, he will occasionally lay an egg and make some mind boggling mistakes. But he has had a career that should guarantee a spot in the Hall of Fame.
He is still doing well with the short and medium length passes, but it looks like the hip injury is limiting how well he can throw the deep ball, or maybe it is just the coverage that our receivers have gotten, but the passing game hasn't been as explosive as it once was. I think that he still has a year or two left in him, but some of what has happened with us this year is concerning.
Luckilly, we have Matt Leinart, who I believe is one of the best backups in the NFL and he could be a starter on several teams in the NFL right now. Even though he had a good rookie year on a Cardinals team that was nowhere as good as it was last year [and seemingly never recovered from the infamous Monday Night Game that made Denny Green lose it], the Quarterback Rotation and the broken collarbone screwed over his entire second year. Thank God that Kurt put up some amazing numbers after Leinart went down, or Whisenhunts first year would have been crap.
It also seems like the year off after the injury may have helped him. From what I have seen, Leinart looks more mature now, and he had a great Preseason, including the near comeback against the Packers in the second half that almost made that game bearable.
I believe that Leinart could be like Aaron Rodgers, it is almost the same situation, except Leinart has been a starter for an entire season while Rodgers didn't do much until Brett Favre "retired", and it is pretty obvious to me that sitting behind Favre helped out Rodgers a lot. Hopefully, Leinart being with Warner for the last couple years could help him do the same thing for the Cardinals that he did with the Trojans.
Just so I can be clear with what I think, Leinart should get some time in the games when we have a lead, especially when we play the Rams, but I don't think he should take over yet this year unless Warner has some kind of meltdown over the next couple of games. I do think that he will take over sometime next season.
What does everyone else here think?

get him really drunk and then draw on his face with permanent marker after he passes out

Force feed him rice.
Punch him in the belly. Then serve him with a hot and spicy sauce?

We don't have to do anything with him
He’s under contract, he’s learning and when it’s time he’ll be ready to take over. Whether that point in time is next week, next season or the year after, it’ll happen.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I like your thinking
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Damn almost spot on.
If only he would’ve predicted an interception too.

Looking forward to Leinart
I respect all that Kurt has done during his time with the Cards, but I wasn’t thrilled with the bloated 2 year contract we gave him (19 mil. guaranteed? Really??) for the next two years. I have concerns about his ability to stay healthy and productive for the next 1.5 seasons. Leinart hasn’t really gotten the chance to prove himself, other than his rookie year, and I think he still has excellent potential. I think his time behind Warner has been beneficial and will make him a much better player when he takes over (next year?).

I like that we got a few HardHats and Warner haters answering the poll.

Where's the box for
Let him continue to back Warner up this season and play him when necessary?
Would it really be possible to fall too far behind in this division?

Think that goes with option 1.
Basically the same as what you are trying to say, if we are playing Leinart than we are either getting kicker or are doing the kicking.

Fair enough, although
I think the best prep time for him wouldn’t be in mop-up time as much as it will be another traning camp under Chris Miller’s tutelage. I agree with assessment about how much different, in terms of maturity, he seems to be now. I’ve gone from skeptical about his ability to take this team over to guardedly optimistic, especially since we’re beginning to show some signs of life in our running game.

If they can keep the playcalling like it was against the Bears
Leinart would probably do well.
