I can’t seriously criticize much about your “who has the edge” analysis, but there are a couple of things that deserve at least a comment:
LB Your assessment is right, but it doesn’t mention that a big part of the Cardinals’ woes against the running game come from a few missed tackles and one big run every game. Remember Chris Johnson of the Titans, for example. Without that one 85 yd “Chamber of Commerce Tour of the Stadium”, his total yardage for the game would have been 69 in 17 carries.
TE What you say about Vernon Davis is VERY true, and for the Cards, that has been a weakness in their pass D; but tight end is also a position that is usually expected to block, as well as catch passes. One reason Vernon has been so good is that the 49ers lack strength—or at least depth—at wide receiver. The Niners HAVE to pass to him.
On the other side, since the Cards have found a couple (or a few) healthy guys to play the position, and have adjusted to feature the running game a little more, the Cardinals’ tight ends have done a VERY good job helping to make that running game effective.
After weighing the balance between catching and blocking ability, you might still judge that the Niners have the edge at Tight End, but it is certainly “a contest”—contrary to your conclusion.
CB Especially with DRC playing pretty well, I’d very much like to say something about your assessment ot the CB position that would probably be related to my point that many of the Cards’ defensive woes result from one or two missed plays in a game, but with McFadden in there . . . well . . . I’m just not going to say anything. CB edge to the Niners.
The one big thing you don’t compare is the INTANGIBLES. So much of what you say is true, but if the Cardinals truly did take that one giant step up last week against the Vikings—as it appears they did—then the past has nothing whatsoever to do with the game tonight. That’s the big question that is still on everybody’s mind. Have these Cardinals taken that step? If they have, the 49ers better make sure their wills are signed.

With Clements not playing I look for Fitzgerald to get the ball against Spencer many times tonight. There really isn’t a good S to help out in coverage for SF. I am sure SF will come out swinging in the first half but start to fall behind. I say Cardinals win big 38-13.

my love for the cardinals started in their 98 season, i was convinced that they would over come the minnesota vikings, alas they did not. later i grew to like the team but it really started more of as a jake the snake fan and then later a david boston fan (he was a bust but i did like the fact that he wanted to be defensive lineman size for no raison.) wilson provided much needed distraction while mccown clowned around in the lost years. naturally the beasts boldin and fitzgerald are the shit now.
ill root for the giants and jets as long as its not against the cards, my 2 best friends and brother are giants and jets fans.

Yes we just got are asses handed to us. 7 turnovers is completely unacceptable, especially for a team as talented as our Cardinals. You guys have to understand that the 49ers are a team that is built to play us well, there is a reason they have beat us 4 out of the last 6 games we have played. Maybe this loss is what we need to wake the fuck up and realize we need to protect the ball more. Our O-Line completely shit the bed tonight, giving Warner absolutely no time to sit in the pocket and make throws.
We are going to bounce back and get on track. Maybe we are not as good a team as we once thought, but I still feel we have a legitimate chance of winning some playoff games. Don’t give up on this team, shit like this happens to the best of them.
