ROTB Manifesto!

Where the fuck did you go Charles..? ROTB has officially gone to hell.. This loss tonight was ugly and we've established that. Besides the few random blips from the ROTB originals, this site has turned into regurgitated bullshit you hear on any sports radio show local to the valley. Mother F#%$^@# professing it as their own. Now we're subjected to half witted quirps tagging snapshots, "caption this sentence" and pretend they are funny??? If I laughed half as hard at the caption's of snapshots on this website than the attempt to write an article outside the 8th grade learning curve, I'd be happy, yet unfortunately this is yet to happen since we are under a new regime.  ROTB's shit is boring! Am I really longing for the Longwind, eh em, I mean Hawkwind days?.?.? Yeah I still love you Hawk... The objective, informative information we used to gather from ROTB has turned into Bill Schwarstki's super fans, and I think you are choking on the kielbasa! This Vanilla affirmation of each other's revelations regarding the Cards has drawn weary my friends, and lets start telling it like it is!   Calling all Cards fans, you rock that Boldin and Fitz Jersey for a reason! You like being the whipping boy of the NFL and you live for the conversation of justifying your teams validity come Monday morning. True Cards fans remember the harder days and are ok with that. It's as Al Pacino said in "Two for the Money" I play to lose! I don't know if it gives us credit when we finally do turn the corner, but we're proud of it either way. Can we please get something from ROTB that we don't get elsewhere??? Just saying... BORING!!!!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Boog = Genius.
Drunk genius – probably, judging by the time of this post but genius all the same.

I have been thinking along the same lines Noah but of course I wouldn’t have your eloquence in delivery.

Debate is good and I would be all for some as long as it was constructive.

Charles had a way with stats and boiling things down succinctly...

…that I could never hope to approach. To write an engaging article one needs to be clever in the presentation of the facts and adding enough of a subjective skew to the facts that the reader doesn’t realize it. Frankly, I’m not that clever. ::sardonic grin:: Or I don’t have the time to be that clever anymore.

To borrow some of Noah’s candor, RotB has become something of a circle-jerk bred by success. We need some wake-up calls (‘09 Niners = ’08 Patriots?) to stir the pot and get dialogue animated. scsa69 and boog’s posts are a start. Cardsfan81 and Undrafteds I suspect will have something insightful to add. Often it’s the subsequent thread after an article that inspires the next.

been a fan for 14 years and agree in large part with what boog said (welcome back?)

but Hawk you mentioning scsa69 did some good writing is ridiculous. Look at his most recent bost of “Leinart, Wright, and Wolf”. He cant even right a complete sentence and all I have seen from him is negative (granted this week there isnt a lot of positive to right about). His comments are the equivelant of the drunken fan screaming at opposing teams bench players during a full game.

I dont think the problem with the site is the new management but the fact that we have a lot of new fans that dont know the team. For example whoever it was a week back claiming DRC was a good tackler “one of the best on the team” he said. Hopefully he watched yesterdays game and saw DRC running AWAY from Gore multiple times.

I didn't say "good", I said getting some "animated" dialogue going. Often the worst writing is the most "animated".

Just look at Seth McFarland’s shows this past Sunday…

Not to pile on

but since Charles has left, there have been three new writers. One wasn’t a member of ROTB until December, OF THIS YEAR.
The other had mainly only commented in game threads.

I’m not going to pretend that I could write any better or as often, but maybe it’s ok to have potential writers “try out” by writing fan posts and what not. If the number of main posts on ROTB go down as a result, I’m sure guys would understand as the search for qualtiy writing would be worth it.

But, I can get middle of the road, non-insightful commentary from most main media outlets.

by KDean75 on Dec 15, 2009 8:04 AM MST reply actions

If you're going to call me out

at least do it correctly. I was not a member of ROTB until very recenty, you are correct. That does not, however, give any indication as to how long I have been reading and following the site. Along the same lines, signing up for a membership gives no indication to Cardinals knowledge, history, or writing ability. I’ve been watching the Cardinals since before they came to Phoenix and have been a die-hard fan since the day the moved to the Valley. Regardless, don’t confuse the date I signed up under this name with my ability to write or my knowledge of the Cardinal. Both woud be a miscalculation.

Before you start piling on blame to the three new writers, understand that they’ve only begun posted one week prior. Also, as new contributors, each of us has really only posted 1-2 segments as of now. I find it hard to believe you can lodge legitimate complaints without granting adequate opportunity. At the very least, allow the writers the opportunity to post a few articles and get into the groove of doing so before you start bashing them.

I at least know that half a dozen people are already signing up to participate in ROTB since I posted my last segment – People that had never even heard of the site. I guess it can’t be all that horrid of a post.

by Jessesb on Dec 15, 2009 1:22 PM MST up reply actions

You outed yourself

In what way am I incorrect? Have you not been a member since the beginning of the month?

I’m not attacking your knowledge or lack of knowledge or fandom or lack of fandom. I’m stating that I’ve never seen you write ANYTHING until you were named a writer for the site. Your lack of writing for this site would make me question your qualifications. I might not always agree with CardsFan81, but at least I’ve seen the guy write and he has some kind of track on here. Which you do not.

These are not opinions, these are facts. I actually like your ifs and buts post. But just like the candies and nuts, the ifs and buts are plural, not possessive.

by KDean75 on Dec 15, 2009 2:04 PM MST up reply actions

In that fact you are correct

You say I “outed” myself as though I am guilty of something?

I do not deny what is obvious from looking at my profile. I did sign up recently and have made sure I have been active. I may not have the track record of several of the veterans of this site, but that does not mean I don’t have something to contribute. Why not provide me with the opportunity? Rather than oust me as if I, in same way, changed the direction of the site with my recents posts, allow me to show that I do have something to contribute day in and day out.

I have done nothing but promote this site to less tech-savvy Cardinal fans since the day I first came here. I respect each of your posts and try to contribute as well. That was really what I figured this was all about…well that and the love of the Cardinals, of course.

You’re right, I will have the occasional grammatical error as we all will. :)

I respect the kinship everyone here shares and understand it takes time to get to know someone—I just ask for that time. :)

by SundayBlitz on Dec 15, 2009 2:23 PM MST up reply actions

As hard as it may be to accept, I wouldn't take this personally

ROTB is a reasonably well established community and I’d go as far as to say most of long-time regulars feel some kin-ship to each other. While we may not be friends who gab each other to sleep at night on the phone, we do “know” each other and have at some respect (at least I’d like to think so) for each other’s opinion. I know I personally look forward to hearing what Hawk, Andrew, Cardsfan81, Dean, sc464, JoeCB, kj, Fitz Jizzle, our two Irish brothers, jallred, Pyro, Cardsfan and many others have to say about each and every game we play.

In the past ROTB has sort of promoted from within meaning that Hawk, Andrew, Pyro and Cardsfan contributed as regular commenters and fanposters (is that a word) before getting “called up” to post on the main page. I know when I saw Andrew’s post announcing the new writers I immediately said “WHO?” I looked up the account thinking that somehow I missed all your comments or fanpost or fanshots, but there was no history to gleam through. I didn’t necessarily see that as a bad thing but I could see how someone else might get rubbed the wrong way. There’s a certain sense of leadership or control from a main page member and having that role filled by someone “outside” the group I’m sure raised some eyebrows.

Also, I’m sure that have “lurked” for a while before joining the group but I know I signed up the very first day I ran across ROTB because I can never get enough Cardinals-related talk. I’m curious if you were posting on a message board or another Cards site prior to coming to ROTB?

To be clear, and I really should've when I introduced the new 3 writers

They are only doing 1 to MAYBE 2 stories per week at the maximum. SundayBlitz is actually starting in the fanpost section as you can see. The load was getting a little heavy on the shoulders so forgive me for looking for some support.

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

I don't take it personally...

thick skin is a must if you’re going to write and post for all to read. Like I said, I definitely understand that people did not know who I was prior. However, it doesn’t make what I post any less relevent. I would certainly understand if I came out attacking or degrading other members. At that point, maybe I’m not the proper person. However, that is not now and never will be the case.

I have posted on other message boards and sports sites previously. To be honest, the reason I wasn’t active on ROTB previously was because I had no time. I had moved from North Carolina to Phoenix, to Los Angeles, back to Phoenix in the course of 10 months. All the while work kept me busy more than 70 hours per week. So, I really did not feel I would have the time to be a quailty, contributing member. However, as of 11/30/09 I transitioned (once again) back into my traveling job where I spend time alone on the road year round. Once this was confirmed, I signed up. It just happened to coincide with Andrew’s post for writers and I finally knew I’d have the time.

I’m an open book. If you have a question about me, my posts, or anything relative, I’m glad to answer. Like I said, I just ask to give me a chance and I won’t disappoint.

Beze, how would you define a "long time regular"

For that matter I would like to read an article on the history of ROTB.

I have been wondering about who cgolden was for quite some time, having never read a post from him.

I, for one, joined the same day I found the site last May and don’t yet consider myself anywhere near a long time regular to this site as someone who was not aware of it last season.

From the Archives I see that ROTB has been around since September of 2007, but that comments were pretty few and far between until fall of 2008.

by Drullin'OverDaCards on Dec 15, 2009 3:16 PM MST up reply actions

Very short ROTB history

cgolden took over in May of 2008 and led for most of the ‘08 season. His work “caught” him blogging so he went posted under other names for a while before finally relinquishing control during this offseason. Most of the main page posts under Hawk’s name during that time are “ghost-written.”

Rumors are that he still lurks the halls and you can hear him screaming “GO CARDS” on nights where there is a full moon.

Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I’m only 18 so I haven’t been a Cards Fan since they came to AZ (wasn’t born yet), but I have been a fan for as long as I can remember. I just found this site last year but didn’t start posting until this year. However this does not mean that I know less about the Cards, in fact, I probably know just as much about “today’s” (last 5 years) Cards as anyone else that posts on this site.

by CARDSxFAN32 on Dec 17, 2009 6:01 PM MST up reply actions

Transition is never easy

Those of you that come here to ROTB often know that I have been a fan for over 27 plus years and have a real sense of how this Organization has transitioned from bottom feeders to The National spotlight now because of Whisenhunt and the younger Bidwill having more control of the Franchise. Real growth no question about it.

I have only been a member of ROTB since April,15 of 09 so I’m in no position to judge or comment on how great Charles was. 602’s work I have read and have on occassion taken exception to what I saw in print from him and called him out on it. To his credit he responded, we hashed it out with good dialog and move on amicably when we’ve disagreed. This has also happened with others from time to time and I have felt (some time ago) that differing thoughts and opinions were NOT welcome here at ROTB even if they were based on sound Football premise and analysis. I just felt like I had to develope tougher skin if I was to remain a part of the ROTB community. I do take the time to watch the games (DVR’s) and breakdown things before posting. Yes a fan, but a knowledgeable fan.

I am truly happy to be able to come here to ROTB to express my opinion/analysis of all things Cardinals related. I derive a great deal of joy from the site and hope others “gain something” from my post. That said, I do agree with 66 to some degree that we could run the risk of being average/mediocre and not diversified enough in content and thought to keep things interesting for the readers (not a shot at you 602 because it is never about one individual). You just never know who is reading your blog and traffic, good traffic is what keeps a community thriving and alive.

Before I wrap this puppy up, I do want to take a second to acknowledge those here that I appreciate. 602 keep pushing. Hawkwind, Pyro, Bezekira, CF08 and that new kid Undrafteds who has imo brought something different to the site that had not been present. 66, you want the best and you deserve the best. Your call has been heard loud and clear. Appreciate the plug Hawk (again).

Umm, ya:(

I was still very salty about the game and had finished watching Public Enemies. I popped on here at ROTB and just felt moved to get that off my chest after browsing through some of the posts.

As to your Boldin question, I think he deserves to retire in Red. They will get him somewhere in the ballpark of 6mil would be my guess, and we need to keep him on. I’ll go out on a limb and either be the prophet or bafoon, but I see Breaston walking before Boldin. He will want a bigger payday when new contract time comes around and I think he deserves it. He’ll end up going to Jacksonville or something and won’t have the same success like he has had in AZ. Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my behalf, but I hope it plays out like this.

I’m analyzing that right now for the game breaker this week. Sendlien is our silent culprit. Well he and Gandy deciding to give the 49ers the weakest left side protection I’ve ever seen.

I think we need a new rallying call at ROTB: “Gandy must go!”
