Matt Ware to IR; Cards Sign K Mike Nugent
Was just reading Sando's blog on ESPN and saw that Matt Ware has officially been put on the IR. With him out for the season Rashad Johnson will take his place.
We really haven't seen much of Johnson this season, which is to be expected. Ware was playing well and the Hunt eases our rookies in slowly throughout the course of the season. Luckily with two games against the lowly Lions and Rams and a potentially tough match up against the Packers who are most likely play off bound we will have the opportunity to see how Johnson fills in and to see how well he adapts to a major increase in playing time.
Honestly I am a little worried, but Johnson does have the athletic ability to get things done. Thoughts?
Editor Update: The Cardinals have indeed signed kicker Ted Mike Nugent to the roster and are expected to let Neil Rackers rest that sore groin. If anyone remembers correctly, Rackers was a cast off and was picked up as a replacement to our own kicking problems back in 2003 I believe. I guess that turned out alright.

Matt did a great job this year
RJ will be fine, but I hope we sign Matt again next year if he’s healthy.
This is not good news
Ware had been playing lights out disiciplined football. He just jumped out on the tape when you re-watch the games on tape. Ware knew his assignment and was never out of postion based on what I saw. Ware will be missed. This also has huge ramifications on Wilson and could limit Wilson’s ability to move around in the sub-package defenses. In short, Ware’s absence means that Billy Davis has one less card in the deck in which to be creative with.
RJ gets the call. He has not looked great when on the field in the dime and nickle packages. Wilson and the rest of that secondary are going to have to rally around the rookie. If his mistakes are held to a minimum then it will be a win for Billy Davis and the defense.
At least we get a look....
and can see if RJ can step up to the challenge. I agree that this limits Bill Davis and the defense somewhat. THough, maybe Johnson will find a groove and will be able to pick things up quickly. Maybe this is what he needs to step up and show he can contribute. He’ll definitely have the chance to prove himself.
It
will be fine. Rashad will be tested but the defense will just shift enough to help out. Wilson should be very active. With the Lions and Rams the defense could bring more pressure up front to give the secondary time to adjust. At this point in the season I would like to see what Rashad can do and if he works out then they have another S to rely on.
I hope Johnson plays well...
But I want to see Ware come back next year.

we...whoops...meant to say...
we’ll find out…hopefully Rashad has been groomed well and will not be a liability. we don’t have much game tape to go on so far though

Sounds like it's the best time for this to happen.
With the LIons and Rams coming up it gives RJ to get some more playing time against inferior competition before the playoffs.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Good point 602
Detroit did not show up in Baltimore and the Rams are not lethal in the passing game either.
The big question now is what do they do once Rackers get's healthy
Assuming they cut Nugent, who should they add to the 53? Ideally they’d probably like to have some kind of CB/S guy like Ware but this isn’t really the best time to go looking for talent on the streets. We don’t have a corner or safety on the practice squad though so look for them to scour other team’s practice squads.
Anyone know of a CB/S guy sitting on another teams PS? Maybe a late round pick this year or last that you liked heading into the draft?
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
check that, I'm an idiot.....we do have a CB on the PS
Rashad Barksdale has decent size (6-0, 208) so maybe he can fill that role.

Guess not! Hadn't seen him in recent weeks because of inactive
I’m sure he’ll be dressing for tonight’s game which should give KDean ample opportunities to throw things at him on screen.
Don't waste time or Time will waste you.

I never want to see him in a Cardinals jersey again.

Currently a free agent, according to Wiki
We released him with an injury settlement in August (I don’t remember hearing anything about this).
