Cardinals Mike Gandy May Be Done For Season
After dealing with an injured pelvis for the last month, Mike Gandy's future with the Arizona Cardinals may be in jeopardy. The injury has caused him to miss two games, and leave early against the Titans and 49ers. Last Friday Gandy underwent surgery to repair the sports hernia. His estimated time frame of return is 3-6 weeks, and one would certainly think we won't see him for at least the remainder of the regular season. When asked if Gandy would indeed see the injured reserve, coach Ken Whisenhunt said, "We don't know yet."
In 12 starts this year Gandy has given up 8 sacks, the most since he's been with the Cardinals. He's also committed 8 penalties on the year, with 5 being holds.
With two kickers currently signed to the roster and Matt Ware recently being added to IR, the Cardinals face a dilemma on what to do with Gandy. He's currently in the final year of his contract and made $5 million this season. Jeremy Bridges has been great in the absence of Gandy, and the Cardinals have to be happy considering the playoffs are not far ahead.

Send Gandy to IR and consider him done in a Cardinal uniform
Gandy is one person I will not miss. It seems like Whis and company are doing a great job of grooming the next generation of the OL. Hopefully they find a way to use Brown better, and possibly pick up a new LT and or RT depending on how confident they are in their reserves.
On a semi-related note, Seahawks C Max Unger, played his first start at Center after starting as the RT most of the year. He played a good game. I still wish we could have found a way to get Max. Not as a center, but as a good lineman who could have been a center if we needed him.

Gandy had his ups and downs but...
made too many penalties and was inconsistent protecting Warner. I think he is a goner too. I don’t see any reason to stop giving Bridges help with a RB or TE though. I realize we don’t see Jared Allen every game but it worked so well vs the Vikings, and our line play was suspect in the following games when we weren’t doubling up, so I am confused as to why we don’t go back to what was working. The Lions of all teams were putting more than a comfortable amount of pressure on the pocket.

Lousy way to go out
however I won’t miss him. Tight end help didn’t stop Detriot from coming in clean to sack Warner. Must have been a missed assignment. No way the RB was going to stop him from the wrong side of the QB. It seems that Whis hasn’t been satisfied at TE. I suspect one being picked up in the draft. More protection would make sense though. It would benefit the run game too.

Bye bye Gandy
Pick up a new tackle in the draft and move Brown to G. He is just too slow and doesn’t have the footwork to be a tackle in our offense. IMO

+1
We should try to get a good RT in the draft, leave Bridges at LT, and move Brown to RG, which would make Lutui a reserve. Its not that I think Lutui is bad, he just happens to be the odd man out. If this happened, I think we would see a drastic improvement in the consistency of our OL. Like you said, Brown is too slow to play RT and would be better suited at RG. I have been extremely impressed with the play of Bridges so far because his protection has been solid, but more importantly he hasn’t had any dumb penalties that we so frequently see from Gandy and Brown (at least none that I can remember). Hopefully whoever we draft will be good enough to start right away otherwise we could start either Big Herman Johnson or Brandon Keith at RT. Thats just my opinion though, what do you guys think about this?

I thought guards were supposed to be more athletic
Because they’re more important in the run-game, which is why Brown might have more success as a G?

Because we leave our tackles uncovered so much they are asked to do more. I think Brown is still a good athlete, just not good enough for our system. I think the offense as it stands today depends on first rate tackles to really be successful.
We saw how good our line could look with help from the TE’s against the Vikings and then we saw how bad our line could look without help from the TE’s and backs in our game against the niners.
Will we be able to get a starting RT in the draft? Probably not.

I like Levi as the right guard, Give Keith a shot at RT. Draft a Left Tackle prospect to groom in the 1st round (if a good one falls to the 32nd pick.)
Make sure to resign Bridges for the next season or two.

I say resign Gandy
The entire offensive line (with the exception of the Vikings game—2 weeks ago) has started for 2 straight seasons.
That’s the reason the offense has played so well during that time.
Yes, we could have run better. We could have protected better. They have combined to do VERY GOOD job. (not perfect—but I repeat—VERY GOOD)
DIVISION CHAMPS 2 years running!!! NFC DEFENDING CHAMPS!!!
If it’s not broke—-DON’T FIX IT!!!

Cuckoo ur broke.
The six sacks Gandy gave up in two of are (couldn’t resist) I mean our losses is the reason we lost.

really—you want to blame 2 loses on 1 player. 1 player only. no one else had anything to do with those loses.
lets see—Couldn’t stop SF in the 4th quarter of game 1. Hightower’s fumble while going in against the Colts (would have given us a 10-0 lead)
DRC giving up a TD didn’t have anything to do with that lose.
How many picks and fumbles against Carolina and SF in those loses.
Can’t stop 3 4th downs against Tenn.
We win and lose as a team. In the past 2 seasons, the Cards have won and played better than any 2 seasons since the mid 70’s.
My point was—consistency is the reason for success.

My point was...
Consistency is good if you win the championship every year, but improvement is needed if your not quite there yet. As long as Gandy plays he will consistently give up multiple sacks in important games. Your point is valid and well received but Gandy sucks!!

If Gandy did go on IR who do you think should be brought to the roster? Should we go for depth at LT or go for need? In either case who are some players you guys would like to see that are available?
Remember no matter where you go in life...there you are!

Go to IR, get Vallejo back in the nest.
Don't waste time or Time will waste you.

He's on the practice squad in Oakland
So we’d have to put him on the roster…

Doh! Missed that, thanks Tweek!
That explains why the Raiders have done better in recent weeks. ::wink::

Jermey Bridges should get every snap at left tackle now.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Yep, think the young guys are still a ways out.
Should be seeing plenty of one or both of them next year, though!
