Arizona Cardinals' Week 16 Milestones

  • Kurt Warner became only the second QB in NFL history to pass for 100 or more touchdowns for two different teams.
  • Adrian Wilson became the tenth player in NFL history to record 20 or more interceptions and sacks in a career.
  • Rookie CB Greg Toler recorded his first career interception.
  • Second-year WR Early Doucet caught his first career TD pass.
  • Steve Breaston caught the Cardinals' longest reception of the season with a 45-yarder.
  • With his eighth rushing TD this season, Tim Hightower tied Ernie Nevers and Ottis Anderson for the most rushing TD's by a Cardinal in a two-year span with 18

Did I miss any?

Nice list

Sounds like anything we do next week will be a bonus ;)

Warner threw for his 52nd 300 yard game.

Making him just the 4th player to do so in the NFL. Makes you wonder how much more he could have done if he stayed healthy and got a chance earlier in his career.

good 1

really this stat is phenomenal, considering how many games he has done it in. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but didn’t Warner do it in far less games?

Maybe I'm just being a homer (actually I am just being a homer)

but I truly think if Warner and Peyton Manning had switched places, Warner would be the one everyone talks about as an all time great. All Kurt needs is good receivers and a good O-line, which Manning has had his whole life. Kurt’s one of the 5 most accurate quarterbacks to ever play the game and he has shown that when he gets some protection, no defense in the league can stop him.

by najmsh on Dec 28, 2009 12:03 PM MST up reply actions

I see what you're saying

But I totally disagree. I love what Kurt has done for the team but Manning makes good receivers look great. Also Manning hasn’t always had a good line, his first season was pretty bad.

They are who we thought they were!

by Jesse Reynolds on Dec 28, 2009 12:08 PM MST up reply actions

yeah his first season O-line was pretty bad

and Manning had a really bad season that year (obviously it’s a combination of bad team talent + bad O-line + being a rookie). But you can’t deny that Manning has always had elite receivers (Wayne and Harrison) and for the most part has had a good offensive line.

It’s just really hard to argue back and forth on this because neither of us have any real proof and it’s hard to say. But after seeing what Kurt has been able to do with the Cardinals (taking us to the Superbowl and making us a legit contender this year), and looking at his stats over the years, I think I can at least make the argument

by najmsh on Dec 28, 2009 12:29 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed.

Kurt locked up his Hall of Fame ballot with this season. A deep playoff run and he solidifies himself as one of the greatest ever. He also has one of the best stories in the NFL.
I will point this out too though, Warner has been surrounded by Elite receivers. Greatest Show on Turf and now the Desert Trio? Arguably the best WR’s a man could ever play with.
I am not a Peyton worshiper, but he is the best QB to ever play the game. If he stays healthy and plays as long as Warner and Farve, his numbers will be ridiculous. Jerry Rise-esk.

DON'T FORGET EDGERRIN

People forget that Edge used to be an elite running back before he blew out his knee. Edge played a big part in the crucial early stages of Manning’s career.

Congrats to A dub and Warner

I like what Billy Davis has done, just wanted to see #24 rush the passer more often. I’m glad he was able to join the 20/20 club before this season ended.

Davis

I’ll tell you what, I was nervous about Davis coming into the year but he has done exactly what the Cardinals needed…they may not be the best Defense in the league but they have certainly become more reliable.

I was really nervous about him before the season started but after the Giants came I started coming around. I’m much more nervous about not having a real offensive coordinator (as much as I love Whiz, he can’t do everything and there have definitely been some moments when I’ve really questioned his playcalling). Nonetheless, great week from the Cards, the offense and defense both clicked really well

The OC situation has left me questioning how focused the offensive game plan has been throughout the season. There is also the possibility of losing Russ Grimm to another team. A lot of teams will be looking for new head coaches. Another deep run into the playoffs will certainly help his resume. Davis has been great. Looking forward to seeing how the 3-4 D developes.

The other QB

with 100 passing TDs for two teams was Fran Tarkenton (Vikings, Giants)

by DaveInTucson on Dec 28, 2009 12:47 AM MST reply actions

Fran Tarkenton

stated in an interview recently that he made something like $275K in his highest paid year. How’s that for a curve in pay over 30 years?

by hadrarius on Dec 28, 2009 1:44 PM MST up reply actions

True

but after a point it’s all just cream. How many millions do you really need? Adjusted for inflation they are still making sick amounts more money now. I think capping rookie contracts is a smart thing to do for a start. Look at Jamarcus Russell. No way the guy is worth the money. Total bust. He should have to pay out shares to Raider fans for sucking so badly.

by hadrarius on Dec 29, 2009 3:45 PM MST up reply actions

I blame the Raiders for the Jemarcus failure

I bet he would have been pretty darn good if he was drafted by a team that knows how to develop quarterbacks. The Eagles, Dolphins and Packers are perfect examples with how they developed Kevin Kolb, Chad Henne, and Aaron Rodgers behind established starters such as Donovan McNabb, Chad Pennington, and Brett Favre.

another good one

I guess it was written everywhere else so I skipped it, but that may be the biggest milestone, good catch. I hope we can get to 11

Interesting factoid: first time Cardinals haven't lost back-to-back games in a season since '75

Which is a good thing considering how bad the potential bridge jumping has been after a single loss.

Don't waste time or Time will waste you.

probably my favorite

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.
