What's in a name...?
During the beginning of last season, we all came together with stories of how we fell in love with the Arizona Cardinals. They ranged from following them since they were in St. Louis, to being a true homer, to following them from different parts of the globe. I myself am from Florida. I saw one poster from Alaska and of course we have our green blooded Irish lovers. Now I'm curious as to where all of your user names came from. Some of them are a play on your names, such as our very own cgolden, or Charles Golden. But what about the rest of you?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

My name is Andrew. I live and am from Phoenix, AZ. 602 is one of the area codes here. I’ve been a hardcore Cardinals fan for about 7 years. Just started really getting into them one year and never stopped. Now if I see anything with a Cardinals logo on it, I MUST buy it. My girlfriend hates that.

Its actually short for Heavy Chevy. When I was in Iraq I worked out a lot with my buddies. I’m a pretty thick dude bit I’m 5’9’’ and most people think I’m only about 200-205 lbs. Boy are they surprised to hear I’m actually 240 lbs. When we got on the scale one day after working out, all my buddies were like DAMN Heavy Chevy! It just stuck so I’ve been Heavy Chevy, Heavy or just plain Chevy for years now.
Actually I wanted "Rexx"...
…but the guy that runs the Ravens’ blog uses that screen name. “Rexx” has been my nickname since fifth grade when I went through a “I hate my given name” phase. It’s my son’s middle name, one he’s quite proud of since Commander Rex showed up on a Star Wars cartoon. With “Rexx” taken I fell back to “Hawkwind” out of habit, also so it’d match my azcentral.com posting name. If you’re curious about the rock band Hawkwind, YouTube is ripe with footage spanning their 40-year existence. “Silver Machine” is their most recognizeable song to old stoners with Lemmy on vocals.
Heavy Chevy, it all make sense now!
I’m curious as to what kind of vermin AkVermynking is king of? Alaska vermin tends to be a little different than our rats and argentine ants of the Lower 48. Mosquitos? Brown bears? Lonely, drunk lumberjacks?
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
Good Guess
Damn Hawk drunk lumberjacks is very close you might be mildly psychic, but seriously back when I lived in AZ I participated in medieval combat with the SCA. The Vermyn are/were a group of hardcore drunken foolz who got suited up in platemail, and took great pleasure beating the crap outta clowns from Cali. With the first pick in the medieval draft I’ll take hevchv 5’9" 240 DAMN!

Can’t wait to wear the NFC Champions gear to the local bars here in AK. Lotta Seattle fans here in Alaska! BIG Steelers following up here as well, the looks in the bar when FITZ got loose in the 4th was priceless. They talk big now but I saw fear in their eyes!! Wanna see SCA combat pics google Estrella War Combat Photos. Only thing I like more than Football is 500-700 of AZ’s finest whipping the kidz from Cali!!!!

Wow, SCA!
I had some buddies that were doing that out of Yuba City, CA for awhile. This was 15 years ago so I doubt they were in melee with you (besides never going to AZ to my knowledge!).
Vermyn, drunk fools, sounds like the skaven out of GW! You may appreciate this then: Blood Bowl

Holy Crap Hawk! You know about GW and Skaven?
I’m a big Games-Workshop fan and used to play the tabletop game back in high school.
My fantasy football league I’ve run for eight years was originally based off my old tabletop Blood Bowl league. I’ve played a lot of BB over the years and hope to get my old league buddies to revive the league with the new version on the computer. I still give in to my inner geek from time to time. :P

WOW again with the mind reading!
You hit the nail on the head, definately inspired by the Skaven armies of Games Workshop (Skaven rocked blood bowl, best 40 times were consistantly ran by ratmen, GREAT BURST AND ACCELERATION LOL). Vermyn even had a one-eyed horned rat for a battle standard. If you love GW check out the MMORPG Warhammer Online.15 years ago I might have matched up with your buddy, been fightin for about 16-17 years. How do I register an avatar, I think I could get the horned rat logo in the right format.

Boogatt: Blood Bowl
It’s a board game that is loosely based on American Football designed by folks in England. Rather than “traditional” football motifs, teams are made up fantasy critters that are bent more on killing the opposing team and refs than scoring touchdowns (though that does happen on occasion). Blood Bowl was a way for me to get a Spring football fix post USFL and pre-WLAF. I used to geek-out on a lot of stuff asides the Cardinals and NFL “back in the day”.

Besides the steroids thing, the lack of salary cap is my number one complaint. That and baseball is just plain boring.
Not really a big basketball fan either, but some vendors just gave me free Jazz tix for tonight. 4 tickets at $92 each must be good seats.

Let me inform you that...
The Cards have fans in Greece as well :p
My body might be in Greece, but my mind and my heart is in Arizona. When the heck will I visit the Desert?
bcloirao
I moved to AZ with the Cards in 88, and have always been a fan, even though even in elementary school I got made fun of for wearing my Cardinals gear.
After graduating high school, I lived in Brazil for a few years. In Portuguese, “Loirao” means “big blonde guy”, and even though I’m not as thick as Heavy Chevy, I’m a pretty big dude. Loirao is always taken as a username, so I added the bc part to it, which is short for Battle Cat, from the He-Man cartoons I used to watch as a kid. So put them together, and you’ve got bcloirao.
Good idea hev—I always wonder what people’s usernames are all about. And Hawkwind—thanks for keeping things moving, even in the offseason. The momentum is good, and its got to feel good being quoted on ESPN, right?
I had figured your first name started with “B” and “Clairao” was your surname! So much for the obvious possibilities, BC. :P
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
er, “Cloirao”. I also figured you were of Italian decent. :P I think I had you as “blclairao” for the entire Pick’em season; so much for my reading skills.
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
I noticed the spelling during the season, but I it was the week I starting winning for the first time, so I figured I would just run with it.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the answer . Maybe next year.
And why Italian?
A favourite winery of mine was founded by Italian brothers name "Brutocao".
Your username started with a “b” and ended with “ao” and my brain tends to only read that much of word and fills in the middle. Which gets me in trouble. Pass me a f—k. Er, fork. So at first glance I was reading “bcloirao” as “brutocao” and the Italian association stuck.
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
See,
I saw the “ao” suffix and assumed it was Portuguese — my ex-fiancee was learning Portuguese while we were engaged, so that certainly seemed plausible to me.
We are truly in the presense of greatness here…-- unnamedDBacksfan
I would say that that made her that much cooler, and that everyone should learn how to speak Portuguese.
Except for she is now your ex-fiancee, which throws that whole idea off.
Oh well. Too bad Muu disappeared from the Pit. That was fun while he was around too.
No, Muu is definitely still around.
It’s just the offseason, so he doesn’t visit very often. I could also Facebook him and tell him to start coming around again? (Fun fact: He’s coaching an amateur baseball team in Brazil)
Oh — and about the ex-fiancee, yeah. Don’t get engaged with psycho redheads. That is all.

Gingers, they are SOULESS BASTARD"S!
Tell me, was she a daywalker? The worst kind! Daywalkers are half-gingers themselves. Make no mistake: gingers are evil. You know who was ginger? Judas. And what did Judas do? Oh, he just got Jesus killed, that’s all. Look, I’m just saying what everyone else already thinks: Gingers are creepy. And one night, when you’re all sleepin’ in your room, the gingers are gonna getcha. They’re gonna GETCHA!

Yeah, Italian and Portuguese are actually pretty similar. I can understand a good bit of Italian, as long as its not in a pressure situation.
Maybe I’ll go for Brutocao in the pick-em for next year, and THEN I’ll win.

My name is Scott Cook. I was a fan of the Cowboys when i was little because my dad and Danny White are friends. Once I grew up and realized the Cowboys were all hoped up on goof balls I switched to the Cards (about age 10) and have been a die hard ever sicne.
My username sc464 is one given to me by the Real Estate board of AZ as a sign on, just used it for everything else since.
Snakebitten
refers to a particular baseball team (who you may have heard of) which accomplished something incredibly special (which you may have witnessed) when I was in 6th grade.
Been a huge Diamondbacks fan ever since and I used it to join the AZ Snakepit as my first SBN blog. It feels weird posting on other blogs with this handle, but I don’t want to create another account and lose all of the data associated with this one.
Never really been a Cardinals fan because of the constant heartache, and my primary sports influence (Dad) didn’t have an NFL team, so neither did I. It sure was fun to watch the Cards in the playoffs this year being far from home. So, I may have become a fan after this year. Only time will tell.

Sorry, but Amare deserved it. Before he got drafted I used to play against him at the local YMCA (midnight basketball every Saturday night) and one night he dunked on me three times. It must be the stars lining up again. He actually had the nerve to say “my bad” on the last one. Just kidding. He was a good kid on the court. Glad to see he got his life together off it. Hope he gets better and can come back for the playoffs. He hasn’t officially been ruled out for the year, its just speculation after his surgery. You guys are in 9th and can still make it to the POs. Wow. Sorry. I’m starting to show my true colors here. As you can see, I’m just as passionate about basketball as I am about football.

When I was 16...
one of my good friends and I started playing in a bowling league every Saturday night. My Aunt, Uncle, Mom & Dad were on one team and my buddy and I teamed up with a couple from my dad’s work. There were these creepy Eastern Euro dudes that were next to us when we first started. Every time they bowled a strike they’d yell, “BOOGATT!” and pound a beer. So we named our bowling team the “Boogatt’s”. I signed up my yahoo account later under that same name but added the 66 because it was my college football number. It’s an easy name to remember and it’s never taken so I always use it.
I later found out through one of my dad’s co-workers’ that was from Romania that “Bugat” means of great wealth or privileged.

CardsFan08
My screen name is easy, CardsFan and the year I became a member of the red sea ’08.
I’ve only been a hardcore fan for three years. But I plan to have season tickets as long as I can possibly afford them.
I live in San Diego and drive to four games and sell the others to family and friends at cost. Let me know if anyone is interested this year in picking up a game or two off of my hands. I believe it will be 92.50 × 2 with a free parking pass.
I'll keep that in mind
The four games you commit to, are they based on your personal schedule or do you pick your games based on the opponent?
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
Completely open Hawk.
I want to make sure that someone else picks up the tab for the other four games and a preseason which I will more than likely have give away with a package when someone buys a game because nobody ever buys preseason at full price. Even though it would help if someone did!
So I play clean up, I just want to go to some games!
If you see a game you really want to go to, let me know I’d be more than happy to sell them to you at cost and know that a ROTBer went and not someone who roots for the other team.
Last year I sold my Vikings tickets to a V fan, oy, did I regret that!

Will be lower level, right side (closer to big screen), home side, Section 107-110 (between 50-25), row 25-40.
That’s what I’m working with my account manager to get. He said that’s not going to be an issue. I’ve got the seniority and it’s only two tickets which helps.
I play clean up and go to the games that I haven’t been able to sell. I try not to put any preference with the exception of the Giants and the Dallas game last year which I kept for myself. This year, the only game I am keeping is Carolina (for my cousin). All others are up for sale.

I hope that some of the RotBers will get to hook up before/after the games.
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
All the same price, a game is a game. But...
What I may do is adjust the price of the preseason tickets across the 8 regular season games because nobody buys them but I have to buy 10 games at face value.
So I would just take the total and divide it by 8 (home games) so everyone would pay a little over face just to recoup the preseasons. And we can give one of the preseasons to whoever would like to see that team play. I like to go to one preseason just to see where the seats are and how the view is.
Anyone object to that?
That's
pretty fair.

I lack any and all imagination when it comes to nicknames. Any nicknames I had when I was young are completely inappropriate. Hence a number I like and my name. Go creativity.
Red Reign
Every one of my teams is red or a shade of red except for the Kings (but even they are purple which is a shade of red and blue if I remember anything from 1st grade finger painting.) I played HS basketball and was generally only good for one 3pt shot and then coach telling me to foul at the end of games. A couple of friends started calling me Red Reign. Didn’t really stick though. If I could re-do it then I would have gone with “Boom Got Them Tho.”

Right my name comes from the fact that I am a profesional poker player and I can’t be beaten due to all the luck I get from being related to a leprechaun!
Or is it because I love the Cardinals and am from Ireland – you decide!
There was a time during the Pick'em League I thought you and Irishcardinal were the same person
Mostly because of the name, partially because the “iffy” picks had you usually picking one team and Irishcardinal the other! :P Hedging your bets that way. ;-)

Iffy Picks???
I thought all my picks were made on solid research of the teams in question using an algorithm that I generated based on the results of the last 10 years!
Either that or I just threw darts at a board!
I must look up Irishcardinal for next years Pick’em league so that we can employ a strategy that ensures the prize crossing the Atlantic!
Lol to that.
Wait til you see Andrew623.
