New Blog: Sounder At Heart for Seattle Sounders Fans!

Adam Schefter has reported that Kurt Warner's agent Mark Bartelstein, has told the Chicago Sun-Times that his client will play in 2009 and could potentially stay with the Arizona Cardinals. It's not clear how long but I think all of us RotB'ers have already decided that it will likely be in the vicinity of a 2-year deal, worth around $15-20 million. That's very good news to this team and probably was decided due to Anquan Boldin stating that he is open to a long-term deal with the organization. Talks between Warner's agent and the Cardinals will be on-going through next week.

"He’s decided he’s going to play," Bartelstein said. "He’s made up his mind. He wants to play and he always wanted to play."

Thank you Kurt!

My body might be in Greece, but my mind and my heart is in Arizona. When the heck will I visit the Desert?

Shall we start the "how many days before Leinart demands a trade" pool?

Good news, Kurt. Thank you indeed.

???? I think this story needs to be looked at again. It is still up in the air.

I don’t want to rain on the parade but I don’t believe that Warner said anything yet that he will return to the Cardinals. Chicago-Sun Times only said that he wants to play more. They are still talking according to most sources and while Warner said that he wants to play more Arizona would be his first choice but if a deal can’t be made he will test the free agent market.

Bartelstein said “ideally remain” with the Cardinals and Bartelstein did sound a word of caution to Arizona, however, saying that they would test out the free agent market should a satisfactory deal not be offered.

Veteran quarterback Kurt Warner will continue his NFL career next season, and ideally remain with the Arizona Cardinals, according to his agent Mark Bartelstein.

“He’s decided he’s going to play,” Bartelstein told the Chicago Sun-Times. “He’s made up his mind. He wants to play and he always wanted to play.”

“We’re not going to fool anybody,” added Bartelstein. “He’d like to stay in Arizona. That would be his first choice.” “But he owes it to himself and his family to have an open mind. If we can get a deal done with the Cardinals, great. If not, then obviously you’ve got to look at free agency.”

“I wouldn’t say we’re closer. We’re more talking conceptually,” said Warner’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, after meeting with Arizona general manager Rod Graves on Friday. Also on Friday, Bartelstein said that Warner wants to play in 2009 “for sure,” while Warner said, “I am leaning in that direction.”

Warner is due to become an unrestricted free agent on Feb. 27; Arizona seems like the overwhelming favorite for his services and he may not seriously consider any other teams.

Warner and the Cardinals do not seem close to a contract agreement, according to the Arizona Republic.

I am thinking that Arizona gets this deal officially done by next Friday. But I would not be shocked if Warner did follow up with his agent and go test to see what else is out there. I know Warner is an amazing QB but I just have this feeling that they should have dealt to him first over Dansby and he may feel like he was not the team priority.

Ok I updated the post.

Obviously they don’t cleary state he will remain with the Cardinals but it’s highly unlikely that he would go to another team. I really can’t see a team giving a 38 year old quarterback a deal worth $15-20 million who has no chemistry with their offense. Not to mention Warner is a dome player and is stationed in Arizona with his family. He would have to uproot them and I don’t think that’s what he wants.

Hey, hey, hey hey hey, watch the language, ok? I have a family.

Warner doesn’t seem like the kind of egotistical player who lets stuff like that bother him — not to mention the fact that the FO wasn’t even sure yet that he was coming back.

Smart move by his agent

Doesn’t look like the Cardinals are offering what Kurt & Agent want, notice who the agent is talking to, Chicago. One of the few teams (now that Minn traded for a QB) that might just make a bid for a veteran QB. Horrible place for Warner but this looks like a power play to get the cards to jump from 12 to 15mil. At this point I am really interested to see what his market value is…………15 MILLION A YEAR FOR 2 YEARS……….I just don’t know about that, guess we will have to wait and see. Now where did Rod Graves put Byron Leftwich’s phone #!

Under "B" for "bust" or was it "L" for "loser".

Just kidding. I’m one of the few here in FL that wanted him to stay. I thought he was a good shotgun QB. Still needs to work on his under center play.

Leftwich or Leinart

I’m guessing the market for Kurt will not be what his agent thinks, and barring retirement Kurt will come back. HOWEVER given the choice I think I have to go Byron, Matt just hasn’t impressed coach. Leftwich = BIG downfeild arm, Matt might be a better timing QB but that will take time and ALOT of INTs to develop.
