Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

JJ Arrington Expected to Sign With Denver Broncos as Early as Today

If Fox Sports is correct, the only thing standing between J.J. Arrington and a contract with the Denver Broncos is a physical. Arrington has reportedly agreed to a contract and pending a physical, will join the team as their third down back and return specialist. The Broncos are also bringing in long-time Eagles' running back, Correll Buckhalter and he is expected to compete for the starting job. No details on the details of the contract yet.

If this does go down, how would you replace Arrington? Draft pick or free agent? Anyone in particular?

Let him go.

He’ll just end up on injured reserve with the rest of their running backs.

I’m going to have to dig through the archives for when I said “Arrington will go to the Broncos next year and rush for 1000 yards”. I think it was the last preseason game against the Broncos. :P So…and capable kick-returners on anyone’s radar? I don’t see Breaston returning to that role.

I remembered you saying that, the first thing I thought of Hawk. Good call!

I’m really disapointed about this. He’s going to be a solid RB and it will bite us in our ass.

Agreed

He is going to have his break out year in 2009.

Having a "break out year"

in Denver is relative. Even the guy selling peanuts at Invesco has a breakout year as a runningback with the Broncos.

JJ had his contract season and will now go back to normal service.

Only now he’ll be frustrating Bronco’s fans instead!

I am sure his production can be covered – his kickoff returns were inconsistent and his production out of the back field can be replaced.

With the Edge situation – it is really looking likely a RB in round 1 now.

They are also meeting with Buckhalter so it's not for sure yet. I doubt they'd sign both.

Don’t they already have about 5 running backs?

They needed 10 last year

With Shanahan gone, I’m not sure Denver will be the boon to runners it has been.

Might be the opposite.

New England hasn’t exactly been a big destination for RBs…

Mixed opinion

I really like JJ, but I never fully trusted him to become a 1000 yard rusher.

I would have liked him to stay just because of his dump pass option that he gave KW.

We’ll see if the Denver deal is real, and if it is, I’m sure we’ll all keep our ear to Denver fans.

Looks like we’ll be needing two RB 1st and 7th.

What are the odds?

What do you guys think are the odds of a Boldin trade for a top back or earlier trade considering the lack of depth at there?

by badmatty53 on Feb 27, 2009 12:02 PM MST reply actions

Depends on Warner!

If he comes back, nil. I he goes, pretty damn good…

Boldin trade for a top back?

Unlikely — as noted previously at this site, player-for-player trades are EXTREMELY rare.

Finally!

They are finally getting rid of JJ! No hard feelings here. For a guy that ran scared on the field it is about time they did this. They can always utilize someone else for another KR and situational RB. Now just to wait and see how they fill these roles.

Warrick Dunn

0 fumbles and 4.2 yards per carry, 47 receptions, add his ability to make the first player miss (good fit for lousy run blocking) seems like a servicable replacement to me.

by AkVermynking on Feb 27, 2009 6:41 PM MST reply actions

He's not the future though

So if we sign him, we still need a young RB in the draft.

Rumour for JJ

The deal might not go through. Check this out.

by CardsFan08 on Mar 1, 2009 3:29 PM MST reply actions

"J.J’s back in Arizona," said Rickert, who did complete a four-year contract with the Broncos on another free-agent running back, Correll Buckhalter. "The deal’s not dead yet."

So JJ’s agent also represents Buckhalter, who DID sign with the Broncos…. doesn’t that seem like a bit of a conflict of interest?
