ROTB Community Mock Draft: With the 11th Overall Pick, the Buffalo Bills Select...
Aaron Maybin DE, Penn State
6'3" 249
This pick in my mind came down to two players, Clay Matthews Jr or AaronMaybin. The Bills have some weapons on offense and it's too early to give up on Trent Edwards (although Sanchez was mildly tempting) so that left the best defenders on the board. Ultimately the pick was Maybin becuase he brings more in the pass rush department. Maybin recorded 12 sacks for the Nittany Lions last year in 2008 and he's added some weight to quiet the rumors that he was too small to be a 4-3 defensive end (finished the season at 229 pounds).
Positives: Maybin's first step is second to none and it's one of the things that makes him an elite pass rusher. He's also got decent repertoire of moves for a young player (redshirt sophomore) and his motor will allow him to pick up some sacks that some others wouldn't. He'll also chase plays down from the backside and is a sure tackler.
Negatives: Although he's added nearly 20 pounds, Maybin's biggest weakness is that he's a one dimensional player. He's a liability against the run and offensive lineman can control him once they lock on to him. He can get too aggressive and over run a play and inexperience is also a concern.
Overall: Maybin ran slow at the combine but performed much better at his pro day despite adding even more weight. If he can play at close to 250 and maintain his athleticism he'll be a very good player in this league for a long time. He'll have to get stronger but he's got the frame to add some bulk.
Many thanks to our very own Bezekira for submitting this pick. The Broncos and AJBirdWatcher are now on the clock (e-mail to revengeofthebirds@gmail.com), with the Redskins and DBacksskins on deck. If anyone needs to refresh their memory on the draft order, check it here....

No way
He is not going this high in the draft. He is way to slow,he has fallen in the draft because of his forty times.Clay Mathews is a better choice hear.

he ran much faster at his pro day and seems to be carrying the extra weight very well now
(that’s straight from a guys who’s a passionate Bills fan). They’d love to have this guy and according to National Football Post, the 10 second split is much more important for an OLB than the forty and Maybin had the second fastest split (for his position) at the combine. So he’s got the explosive first step to be an effective pass rusher. Matthews may be a more complete player right now but Maybin had more sacks in 2008 than Matthews has had his entire career at USC and pass rush is the Bills biggest need and that’s why I chose him over Matthews.

I think a lot of Buffalo fans are wary of Maybin’s bust potential and the front office’s habit of ignoring pass rush at all costs. It’s encouraging that Maybin has added weight and kept the quick first step. However, a few people in the know have stated that Matthews has been a favorite of the Bills’ talent evaluators as well.
Then again, the Bills never fail to mess with our heads on draft day. That being said, my guess is we take an Ohio State DB. It doesn’t matter their position or projected round. Whichever is least likely to make big plays is the one we shall take at #11 overall.
