Who is your favorite NFL player of all time?
Considering news is a little slow with off-season and no action in free agency, I thought I would post this question to our Revenge of the Birds faithful. Who? Why? When? There doesn't have to be any team allegiance on this one just be prepared to back it up if it is the likes of T.O. or Andre Rison etc.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

I've always been a huge fan of Barry Sanders!
He never really had a line or management that would build a winning team around him but that never held him back from producing. I also liked the way he went out too; he marched to his own drum.
I have always really liked Brett Favre too. I don’t think there has ever been another player with just a pure love for the game as him. I think he’d pay the NFL to let him play if he had his choice. The game he played where his father passed and he lit it up was nothing less than inspirational. Whether you like him or not, you have to at least give him that!
Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?
Hold on, hold on, what if the Hurricanes name was Whisenhunt?

It's a tough choice
I had the pleasure of seeing both Jim Brown and Gayle Sayers play, and there is no doubt in my mind that, had he not had the knee injury, Sayers would’ve been the greatest RB of all time. The man was pure poetry in motion.
With that said, no player was more fun to watch than the late Walter Payton. There is no nickname more appropriate for an athlete than Sweetness, because he was just sweet to watch.

Frank Sanders
Frank was always somone i looked up to, from when i was in high school. I went to a Cardinals game in Carolina one year and we stayed at the same hotel as the Cards. I was in the lobby hoping to get some autographs and they Frank came over we i called for him, he was there with his wife. He asked her to go up to the room and he would be up in a little while. Frank hung out for about 20 min. signed an autograph for me and took a photo and talked about the cards. The sad thing was that was his last year with the Cards. More players should be more like him and relize the fans make this game.

Larry Wilson, Cardinals Free Safety in the 60's
When I say I have been a Cardinals fan forever, I mean forever. I was given an autographed football the day I was born. It has ever player from the 1969 Cardinals. It was given to my Grandfather, for me, by Larry Wilson. They were cousins.
I am very proud of what Larry did and represented as a player and a Cardinal.
I love to travel, but hate to arrive.

do we have to pick just one????
I’ll narrow it down to two (excluding Cardinals’ players b/c they should probably get thier own story):
- Derrick Thomas – I always loved that guy and maybe his tragic ending puts it over the top. I still remember the game when he had seven sacks in one game.
- Jerome Bettis – How can you not like the Phat Back? The Bus just got the job done, not flashy, just effective.

T-Town & B-Train
Favorite player because of pure passion for the game (even before the military) has to be Pat Tillman. I imagine he will be a trendy pick. The dude was good on and off the field. Also although he may not be my favorite player Bertrand Berry is a very genuine person.
One day I pulled into Best Buy in Mesa behind him and followed him into the store (not in a stalker type of way because that were I was headed to). I was walking behind him and said out loud “Berry”. He turned around and we started talking. This was right after he took the big pay cut before last year so as not to get cut and my stupid self said “I’m glad you took a pay cut in order to stay a Cardinal” to which he said “yeah, you know it was worth it. I like it here and we have a bright future”. We talked a little longer and I gave him a business card. Every so often I get invitations in the mail to his charities activities.

I guess Ill be the first.
KURT WARNER. He’s a class-act and won the Walter Peyton Man of the Year award this year. What else can you say about him? Great guy. Very religous. Helps the community. There’s really not a lot of negatives you can point out about his personality. Not to mention he’s a great player. As we all know, he took 3 teams to a Super Bowl and won it once. He took the Cardinals more importantly. And he’s a 2 time MVP. Oh yeah and he’s coming back to lead us again.
Hey, hey, hey hey hey, watch the language, ok? I have a family.

Gawds, all-time?
Aeneas Williams? Bill Ring? Scott McCready? Joe Montana? Jerry Rice? Neil Lomax? OJ Anderson? Ray Guy? Stabler? Man, that’s hard.
Williams would have to be my favourite Cardinal of all-time but not necessarily my favourite football player of all time since I had to watch a lot of non-Cardinal games over the years before Sunday Ticket. I’ll say “Earl Campbell” but that could change.

Nice
Aeneas Williams was always and still is a class act. Sam for Frank Sanders as mentioned earlier. What about Larry Centers? Chuck Cecil? He paved the way for guys like Adrian Wilson.

Tough question
My all-time favorite Cardinal is Aeneas Williams. He was fun to watch. What he accomplished (on some pretty lousy teams) was amazing.
My first favorite Cardinal was Stump Mitchell. To be honest, that probably happened by default as much as anything. He was the starting RB when the Cards first moved to Arizona. I liked RBs and you could buy his jersey (I still have it).
Independent of team, my all-time favorite player is Walter Payton. As I kid I bought the Kangaroo shoes he endorsed. And it seems like he was as good of a person off the field as he was a great player on it.

the shifty little running back that played w Lawrence Taylor in NY? Always liked him (maybe just because of Super Tecmo Bowl)

1) Rice/Montanta Combo 2) Barry Sanders
That was the era when I first started watching football and playing Tecmo Bowl. To me they seemed larger than life stars. This was before I had any allegiance and just liked watching highlights.

Dan Marino
Man I used to love the excitement he brought to every game. A bit like KW now with Fitz and Q, Marino had Duper and Clayton coming up with spectacular catches and no game was ever over. He was a pure pocket passer and it sucks that he never won a SB. Got to see him live in Miami v Cardinals game in 99 and while I was screaming for the Cards that day, he still had enough to pull out the win.

Stump Mitchell
I used to pretend to be Stump Mitchell all the time as a youngster. Dad was Neil Lomax and my brother was Roy Green. Those were the days.
My favorite present day player, issues aside, is Anquan Boldin. I just love the way the guy can catch a 5 yard pass and run through the entire defense.
