Boldin's chances of being traded just went up

We all know the Cards were most likely listening to offers about Anquan Boldin but they were most likely not really considering them. Now things seem to have changed. Apparently the Cards talked to Boldin and his agent recently and from what I gather they must not have gotten close to what they think Boldin is worth.

With the draft getting closer and closer, I guess it inevitable that we would here something like this. Now it just comes to, does a trade go through? If so whom do we trade him to, and what do we get in return? If we do trade him we better get something better than the Lions got for Roy Williams.

Update: See the Roto Widget on the bottem left of the home page. It seems the Jets and Ravens are currently in the running to make a trade for Boldin, then the Giants and Eagles. No Florida teams are currently interested apparently.

The Cards reportedly want first- and third-round picks for the talented receiver. From what I'm told, the Jets don't appear to be serious suitors.

Star-divide

Update: Giants say the Cards asking price of 1st and 3rd is possibly too steep a price to pay. I think they are trying to run up the price for Boldin because Philly has been wanting Boldin since he came out last year and asked to be traded. Giants seem more interested in Braylen Edwards anyways. If the Giants can come to an agreement though with the Cards on the trade look for Philly to outbid them for him.

Potential trade partners: Giants, Jets, Dolphins, Jaguars, Eagles, and Titans. (personal prefrence would be tradeing to Jets or the Fins as we don't play them this year).

More likely but still a long shot

I don’t get the front office’s honesty right now but I guess it’s refreshing. I still don’t think much has changed though, they’re listening to offers (they’d be stupid not to IMO) but someone is going to have to blow them away. It’s going to take a first rounder plus at least one other mid round pick and maybe even a third late round pick. At that price I’d be willing to pack Boldin’s bag for him, but no one is going pay that price.

The Cowboys set an incredibly high market value with the Roy Williams trade and the Cardinals would be smart to listen to offers but keep the high high asking price. If they trade him fine, if they don’t get what they ask then we’ll just keep him.

Agreed...

The Cards should wait until next off season, when he has 1 year remaining, and then work on a trade. I can’t imagine they would get that much less after another year (unless he gets injured). There is also the fact that the team should be doing everything to remain competitive, especially since this might be Warner’s last good year. Trading Boldin goes in the other direction. He’s proven that he can and will play and produce even with contract displeasure.

I agree on

the fact that we should wait till next year. I think there is just as good defensive talent in next years draft, not really any RBs either so might as well take one this year. This site has a mock draft for 2010, and even though this far in advance for one next year is probably not reliable it still gives a little bit of an idea of what will be out there. There are two players that caught my eye, Jerry Hughes and LeGarrette Blount. Now I did say we there really isn’t a whole lot of talent at RB for next year at this point but from what I have read that guy is good. I really like Hughes too as he would fit great in our 3-4 system.

2010 mock draft

here’s a mock draft for 2010 that was updated April 7th.

I say

that Boldin will be traded this year. I hate to see it happen but it still looks like it will take place. They denied the Warner money being given over to Boldin, they won’t make him a priority on his contract, and now are listening to trade offers. The Cowboys screwed up the Williams deal and no WR was worth what they did. It sets a level for a trade but it isn’t realistic. They probably get a couple of draft picks if they trade him.

what i think

Here is what I would like to have happen.

We send Boldin & Edge to Giant for 1st rounder & Bradshaw. My only concern with this is that I heard Bradshaw may be in some kind of legal trouble. Anybody heard anything on this?

Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

by sc464 on Apr 16, 2009 9:52 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah didn't he serve time or will be serving time?

And we play the Giants this year. Hope that doesn’t happen. The only WR worth that kind of deal IMO is Larry Fitzgerald. I would give up an arm and a leg to have him on my team.

This is a tough situation. We trade Q and get two 1st rounders, then get a RB and DE/OLB in the draft and improve tremendously. But we lose a key piece to the offense who is an emotional leader. Tough call but I think I’ll be happy either way.

Hey, hey, hey hey hey, watch the language, ok? I have a family.

When he was a frosh at UVa

He was busted for a MIP-type charge. He tried running from the cops but was caught from behind (kind of embarrassing that a D1 ball player was run down by a cop). He has violated his probation a couple of times and has served short stints the past couple of offseasons.

When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome again.

Market Value

I think this is an issue of market value. Boldin thinks he is worth more than the Cards do. If no trade offers come in that are worth more than what the Cards are willing to spend then the Cards can use the market to justify their offer. However, if something comes in significantly higher than what they are willing to pay, then the Cards will likely trade. You can bet Boldin’s agent is working his tail off trying to get a trade that is close to what he has been saying Boldin is worth.

can Drew actively pursue a trading partner without the Cardinals permission

I don’t think he can and I doubt they would do that. Right now all they’ve said is that they’re ‘listening’ but giving Drew the Snake free reign to find a trading partner would be a totally different story, IMO.

by Bezekira on Apr 17, 2009 9:18 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Drew is looking for a trade

he already knows what the Cards want in return. I don’t think the Cards will budge on that 1st and 3rd pick for the minimum offer to get Boldin and I think Drew would try and get that trade done for the Cards. I agree more with what Bezekira though as that they are just listening not pursuing. I think if this is gonna go down the Cards won’t want to look desperate to trade him and by pursuing a trade partner that makes them look like they want him gone which makes the value go down. I don’t see the Cards accepting anything Rosenhaus has to offer unless he gets a deal that is substantially better than what they are wanting. I bet the Cards never pursue a trade with Boldin this year. If he is traded it is by a team that is desperate otherwise Boldin returns and gets shipped off next year.

by Pyromnc on Apr 17, 2009 9:31 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.

Due to how the offense is run with KW at the helm and how much they spent to bring him back, it’s in the Cardinals best interest to keep Boldin for one more year. Then when he hits his contract year ship him off and use the extra picks to begin building the offense for the KW/Leinart transition.

by CardsFan08 on Apr 18, 2009 12:54 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Smart move by Ken & Co.

I don’t think he is going anywhere. I would want AT LEAST as much as the lions got for Roy. We are a much better team with Q. We should make him play here this year, win the superbowl, then trade him next year for some picks. Thats how we will build a dynasty.

by CardsDefense on Apr 16, 2009 11:46 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Boldin trade

To be realistic, the Cards won’t get something “better” than what the Lions got for Williams. No doubt Q is the far superior receiver, but nobody (well, almost nobody) is going to give away more picks than Jones did.

However, a scenario that I think makes sense, if the Cards and Boldin are really that far apart and cannot get any closer, is a trade to Jacksonville. It would get Q out of the NFC, and would probably involve something like Jacksonville’s third round this year and their first round next year. I’d like to see us hold out for their second this year and their first next year, which would give us picks #31, #39, and #63 in the first two rounds this year, and of course, two #1’s next year, one that could be used to move back into rounds two and three and get extra picks again. If it is a third this year, that would still give us picks #31, #63, #72, and #95 in rounds 1-3, again with two #1’s next year. That gives us a lot more flexibility in filling needs for the upcoming season. We could use #31 on a DE/OLB (hopefully English), #63 or even #72 on an RB like Shonn Greene, and one of the two on a monster like Phil Loadholt (I know he’s an OT, not an OG but from what I’ve heard he may be way too good to pass on). OR, if English is gone by #31 they could go the route of Pettigrew at #31 (if he’s there), Greene, Loadholt, and a DE/OLB. Either way, it would go along way in improving our pass rush and run game. It would also give us a chance to see exactly what we have in Doucet, and I’m thinking he may really round out what is already a very good 2008 draft class.

I don’t want to see Boldin leave, but his value is sky high right now (another injury in the upcoming season and I think we can kiss a future #1 good-bye) and I don’t see the long-term value in having two $10 million dollar receivers, especially when that position is the the deepest one on our roster, and probably the entire league.

by Long Beach on Apr 16, 2009 12:07 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Wouldn't mind the

Jacksonville trade but here’s a trade that I think I would like more. Send him to the Jets, this way we won’t have to play him for a few years when he is out of his prime or in the Super Bowl, for Leon Washington, 2nd round pick and 5th round pick or maybe like you scenario where we get the 1st round next year.

by Pyromnc on Apr 16, 2009 12:50 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good Thoughts

Not a bad scenario either, but the one advantage to trading with Jacksonville this year is they are picking pretty early in both the second and third rounds, and if they have Boldin and the #8 pick playing for them next year we shouldn’t end up with that high of a #1 from them in 2010. Plus, it shows Boldin respect by sending him to his home state of Florida, which he greatly deserves after everything he’s done for us. I agree that it would be nice to not have to play against him anytime soon, though, and sending him to the Jets still gets him out of the NFC. I don’t get all these “experts” who continually talk about him going to Philadelphia and the NY Giants. Why send him somewhere that would give those teams an immediate upgrade, when we may end up seeing them in the playoffs?

by Long Beach on Apr 16, 2009 1:10 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Trade from Jacksonville

could possibly be better but I think that they would wait till draft day to consider this option more as they might try and hold out for Michael Crabtree or Jeremy Maclin at their 8th pick. I hope that doesn’t happen because I am going hiking on Tuesday and won’t be able to see if Boldin gets traded or not and it will just ruin my whole trip which last until Sunday night.

by Pyromnc on Apr 16, 2009 2:32 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Point well made

I haven’t given that scenario as much thought as I should have, if that plays out Jacksonville would be out of the picture as a trade partner. I do have a hard time seeing Del Rio pass on a guy like BJ Raji in favor of a receiver and the addition of Raji and Boldin would have to be worth an ‘09 2nd or 3rd and an 2010 #1 but who knows? If they think that Crabtree is the next Fitzgerald they’d be foolish not to take him.

by Long Beach on Apr 16, 2009 2:48 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

I think that Jax would love to have Raji up the middle with Henderson. I think it depends on whether Cleveland trades Edwards or not, if they trade him I bet they look at Crabtree. If they don’t I think they look at Raji. Either way that will make a decision on the Raji / Crabtree problem.

by Pyromnc on Apr 16, 2009 3:26 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Another good point

It does seem as though Edwards to the Giants is picking up a lot of steam. Since you’re obviously very well-versed on the upcoming draft, do you think Cleveland would go with Raji over Orakpo? I heard another rumor about the Broncos possibly moving up to Jacksonville’s #8, but who knows if there’s any validity to it? No doubt that Crabtree has to be a serious consideration at #5 if Braylon gets moved.

by Long Beach on Apr 16, 2009 5:01 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I may be getting greedy but what about this:

Send him to Jax for their 1st & 3rd. Tade down on the 8th pick so we dont have to take the hit salary wise with a top10 pick for a mid 11-10 spot & take that teams 4th round pick. that way we end up with an extra say #19 overall, 3rd round and 4th round. If we then feel we need to move up to get Wells then we move up with our second 1st round pick by sending the 31st overall and OUR late 4th round pick to move up 5 spots and snatch him.

Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

by sc464 on Apr 16, 2009 5:21 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds good, but...

As the potential for a deal with Jacksonville may be ending with each passing moment, I don’t think at any time it was ever going to include their #1 this year. However, had we gotten ahold of it I think we’re all in agreement that moving it down for more picks would have been the best way to get a maximum return, in the long run, for Boldin.

by Long Beach on Apr 16, 2009 6:43 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Sanchez if still there

and we got the 8th pick we might be able to pull both of Denver’s pick in the 1st for it. I have to agree with Long Beach I don’t think we would ever have been offered the 1st round pick for this year. If we did get it though and we could get Denver’s pick’s just think how sick our team could get next year with a 12, 18th, and 31st pick. We could get Tyson Jackson with the 12th,Knowshon Moreno with the 18th, and Larry English at the 31st. With that just being the 1st round I think people would have to look at us and say damn that team is going to own.

by Pyromnc on Apr 16, 2009 7:26 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Or maybe

Laurinitis with the 31st to start molding someone to replace Dansby if he leaves.

by Pyromnc on Apr 16, 2009 7:28 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Could go with

Orakpo as Shaun Rogers is the current NT. All depends on how his relationship with Mangini is. They have some DE’s that were decent but are coming off of injuries or were not productive last year. I just took a gander at the roster of Cleveland and now that Winslow is gone, Stallworth probably gone, Juravicious gone, Lewis getting old, and the uncertainty surrounding Edwards( whether he is traded or not he will have questions surrounding his ability) Cleveland could still go WR just to have some threats. Your right though looking at the roster they need a playmaker at DE and Orakpo would fit there but that alos brings up the other Ohio(Bengals) and Oakland both need a DT. Both those teams have major needs all over the place so anyone’s guees at what they do is as good as any.

by Pyromnc on Apr 16, 2009 7:20 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Clarification

Good to know I make sense to somebody other than myself, and upon further review I think my point would have been more effective if I had left the potential picks out, since that could create a debate outside the idea of the original post. Whomever the Cards’ brass would use the picks on is something I’m sure they’ll make count, but the idea of getting more picks than what we have now is the benefit I’m getting at. I like the idea of picking late in the first, but getting either an early second or early third, to me, is a major upgrade over choosing later in those rounds.

by Long Beach on Apr 16, 2009 12:35 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I think he comes here to Baltimore

Ozzie Newsome will realize that getting Boldin for a 1st and 3rd will have more value then taking a rookie WR in the 1st and someone else in the 3rd.

I hope you're right

He’d be a great fit in Baltimore, and a first and third would greatly help the Cardinals.

Thanks for the support

Since Boldin has been in the league, I have said that he is one of the few players not on Baltimore that plays like a Raven. Would love to get him here.

his best chance would be with Baltimore.

Phili is out of it

I think we are the only team right now that will be aggressive enough to get him. Jets wont. Panthers wont. Giants want Edwards. Really hope to see Boldin in purple next year!

Did anybody see this one?

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/04/16/boldin-on-possible-trade-i-want-to-get-it-resolved/

Apparently Boldin is making some shout outs to teams he’d like to play for. Eagles and Giants specifically. Something tells me that Boldin won’t be playing in red this year, unless it’s with the Chiefs.

by CardsFan08 on Apr 18, 2009 7:23 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Yea I saw that.

I really didn’t appreciate hearing Boldin doing this but I guess we can’t stop him from running his mouth. Just to put my 2 cents in I am tired of Boldin running his mouth. This whole situation is his fault and his agents fault. If they had of just went after a contract instead of saying “hey we will wait till you get the Fizgerald deal” he would might have deal in place that makes him happy.

by Pyromnc on Apr 18, 2009 11:09 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with your 2 cents

I can’t stand his agent, and because Boldin doesn’t know when he should and should not be talking to the press or when he should or should not be letting his emotions dictate his actions this whole ordeal has been blown way out of proportion.

If this was simply a money issue it could have been taken care of behind closed doors, and any press talk should be what every professional says from the very beginning, “We’re working together to get a deal made. I want to stay with this team, and I’m committed to this team.” Then if he does end up getting traded he would need to say the classic, “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity that this affords me and the new team. I’ve always wanted to play for [fill in team].”

That’s what a professional does, and that’s what a true businessman does.
