Jay Cutler is being traded to the Bears
Wow, details are still very sketchy but ESPN is reporting that it's Cutler for Orton and the Bears are throwing in two first round picks (presumably this year's and next year's first). It looks like the Cardinals matchup with the Bears this season just got a bit tougher.

Good move for the Bears, bad for Cutler
He’s going to a team with no offensive line and no wide receivers. The Bears would’ve needed their draft picks to build their team. It may work on in the Broncos favor as they can start Orton or Simms and add support with 2 1st round picks now.

Completely agree
Cutler goes from a team with a good offense and a bad defense to a complete reversal. He and Forte are now the building blocks from which the Bears will build around sort of like the Packers did when they picked up Favre.
Broncos got the best of this trade
They get 2 1st round picks, Orton who fits McDaniels system and a 3rd round pick. Broncos can now go and rebuild that defense that was horrid last year. The Bears get a QB that has never won in college and hasn’t won in the NFL 17-20 as a starter. Jay Cutler has the arm strength but is not a very accurate QB, he often makes throws that make you scratch your head and say why. I think the bears should have just stuck with Orton, who was pretty good before he was rushed back from injury, and rebuild that aging defense. Everyone says the Bears are now the favorites to win the NFC North, I beg to differ as I still think the Vikings are the team to beat in that division.
Cutler's better than you're giving credit
I think Cutler has been able to put up good numbers and a good amount of wins for a guy who defenses knew was going to throw every down because he had little to no run support and didn’t have that great of receivers to throw to. I think he’ll stink it up now that he’s moving to an offense that is a downgrade but he’ll be more effective than Orton, maybe, just maybe now Devin Hester will have a chance to use his speed to be defenders on the straight route for the long ball.
But you’re absolutely right in that the Vikings are the team to beat in the North. Green Bay is rebuilding and regelling (is that a word?) and the Bears will need to build around Cutler before they can truly become a force to reckon with.
No run support???
The Broncos were 12th in the league in rushing averaging about 117 yards a game. They may not have had RB consistently got 100 every night (injuries) but they had a bunch of backs do it. In fact every back that started for them averaged 4 yards or more per carry. No receivers to throw too??? he had Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall probably one of the top 5 one two punches in the league. He also had Tony Scheffler and Brandon Stokely.
If there is one thing that Orton wasn’t the greatest at it was the long ball. I agree with you on that point of Cutler that he will be able to launch it and give Hester the opportunity to beat defenders for the long ball. As far as everything else goes Orton put up 18 TDs with hardly any weapons last year while being rushed back from an injury in week 10.
On the Broncos site
They referenced Orton to having a “Noodle Arm”. LOL

I stand corrected on the WR's, with the exception of Stokely
I don’t know why I forgot about the numbers that Marshall and Royal were pulling down last year, but I should have when Cutler put up 4500 yards last year someone had to be hauling them in (Marshall 1K+ yards, Royal 980 yards). But Stokely was just decent, nothing special.
Their RB’s did put up big numbers for a game or two before hitting IR and needing to find a replacement, and they did put a new spin on the RB by committee, but one could argue that the effective pass was setting up the run which allowed those big numbers and not vice versa. My point is, teams were planning for Jay Cutler and trying to shutdown the pass threat because there wasn’t a consistent rushing threat.
When I look at who got the better deal, I think it was Denver, because Chicago (who needed a quality QB and hasn’t had very much luck in drafting one) over paid for a proven commodity. Also, as other people have mentioned Denver is a young and developing team and with those extra picks can further develop into a better team and take a division that currently only has one threat in San Diego.
I don't think it makes our Bears game tougher
Cutler doesn’t scare me. There are QB’s in the league that I am really nervous to see on the other side when the game is on the line. Cutler is not one of them. Thus far in his career he has been more promise than production.
I can understand that
But I think judging him on last years numbers he put up winning stats, but his defense couldn’t stop a pee wee league and because of that he hasn’t been able to be recognized as a stud. But just on numbers alone the guy has been quality, especially on the Fantasy Football front.
Which as stupid as I may sound, is one way I like to judge players because it allows them to shine for a certain amount of their own talent. Maybe they get lucky a few weeks of the year, but if someone is consistently putting up 3 TD’s and 300 yards that’s something that speaks of a quality player that just needs some fine tuning (reduce the number of INT’s) and a defense to hold other teams below 35.
Whether or not Cutler scares anyone or is an elite QB is regardless. My point is saying that was that he’s a better QB than Orton, which makes the Bears a better team.
Orton may not scare
But he still was a good QB last year. If it wasn’t for an ankle injury that he suffered against the Lions he probably would have had even better numbers than he had. He also did this with out having the significant weapons that Cutler had at Denver (Marshall, Royal, Stokely, and Scheffler) not to mention a good OL. All Orton really had was Hester, who is still developing as a receiver, an aging Desmond Clark, a still developing Greg Olsen, and Matt Forte. Orton thrived on the system that McDaniels runs in college and I expect him to thrive on it in Denver and put up some pretty good numbers.
Plus with the added picks,
Denver now has a chance to establish some players of the future. They are already a pretty young team. I like Denver’s chances in the next couple years as long as Orton can play decently.

I see what you mean
I guess my point is as a fan, I am not really more concerned about the Bears with Cutler as I was the Bears with Orton. Cutler may be a game changer in Chicago, we’ll need to wait and see. For now, either way, it’s a road game and those wins don’t come easy no matter who the QB is.
