2009 NFL Draft: Round One Open Thread

Welcome to Revenge of the Birds! Today is most highly anticipated day of the NFL off-season with the first two rounds of the NFL Draft. The Arizona Cardinals find themselves in unusual territory with a late pick in the first round, the latest they've picked since #22 in the glory days of the '70's. The Cardinals have many needs that we have discussed since the Combine in Indianapolis. Today all our speculation and gut feelings will see fruitition when the Cardinals finally select the 31st overall pick in the late afternoon. Until that time there are plenty of other storylines to follow with the Cardinals (will Boldin be traded?) and the rest of the league (Stafford going to be the Lions saviour?).

I would like to add another prospect for a 2nd day pick
James Casey out of Rice. The kid is 6’3’’ 246 and has so much athletic potential. He is a receiving TE but can also play QB, RB, P, PR and slot WR. He once played 7 different positions in the same game.

Wow - Todd Haley takes Tyson Jackson
I didn’t see that coming – considering he fell all the way to the Steelers in our draft.
And Haley is running a 3-4
Jackson played in the 4-3 at LSU. He’s never played inside a Tackle. Curry was a scheme fit and a slam dunk.

I like the Sanchez pick for the jets
I think its a great move. They gave up a bit for him though. He gives the Jets the face of the franchise and will be the starter from Day 1.

Orakpo does not look like a happy camper.
I still believe that a great addition to the draft would be inviting 40 draftees to New York and have them sit on stage. They wouldn’t be allowed to leave until their name is called. If they fall to the second day then they can have a sleepover with bologna sandwiches. Bathroom breaks as needed.

I've seen some mocks
having Shonn Greene to us in the 2nd and McCoy lasting til the 3rd. If either of those are the case then I would be fine with a LB or OL 1st.

Especially after the tragic circumstances he’s had to endure lately. Whatever you think of him as a RB ( I think he is worthy of Canton) he is a class act as a person and I wish him well.
