Anyone interested in Larry Johnson?
It sounds like the Chiefs are awfully tired of his act and our fellow blog, Arrowhead Pride, goes as far as saying he might be cut. While that's probably just a drastic overreaction, it does seem pretty clear that the Chiefs are ready to move on and Johnson's on the trading block.
Johnson's had his share of off the the field issues (apparently he shouldn't be around women when he's in a bar) and age and overuse is an issue. He'll turn 30 during the season and he's got over 1,200 carries on his legs (still quite a bit less than the 2,900 carries on Edge), but he did average 4.5 yards per carry last season. His career average is 4.5 and he's only had one season under 4.0. He's also decent out of the backfield although one of his biggest knocks is that he sucks in pass protection.
To get to the matter at hand, Arrowhead Pride suggests that the best deal for LJ might be a 4th round pick. So if we could trade a fourth round pick for LJ, would you do it?

Tired
of seeing the Cards going after backs that are either at the end of their prime(Edge) or past their prime(Emmit Smith). This guy was once a good back that out weighed the fact that he had character issues. Now he is injured all of the time and the Character issues just seem to get worse and worse. I would rather have an unhappy Edge running for us at this point over Larry Johnson. If we are going to replace edge lets do it with someone that hasn’t hit their prime yet and not with this guy.

Johnson has only had 2 injuries
Once nearly having his head ripped off where he missed the remainder of a game from a serious facemask, and the several he missed due to foot injury.
His character issues, well, that’s amounted to 4 games (that I can remember off the top of my head).

Antrel Rolle was the one that almost ripped his head off.
I was at that game and thought he was dead the way he went down.

Thats right!
I was trying to figure out when that was… It was one of Leinert’s few starts.

I was at that game and totally thought Antrell had either killed him or paralyzed him.

The game got quiet. I remember telling my friend that I thought he was dead.

I wouldn’t trade for him, but I might be interested in him as a free agent. We might have to go this way if we can’t draft Moreno or Wells.

+1
He could come relatively cheap and he really didn’t begin his career til late because of Priest Holmes.

Baiscally
L.J. only had 140 carries his 1st two years b/c we had Priest. Then 05 and 06 he had the back to back 1700+ seasons.
In 07 he missed 9 games due to the ankle after the heavy load of the past 2 seasons.
And last year was just awful too many times we abandoned the run early when L.J. was being productive. He also missed 4 games due to suspesion by the team and the league. L.J. still ran for 874 yards add those 4 missed games and he easily breaks 1100 yards.
He has a lot of life left. I honestly think he has more value to our team than a 4th round pick.

If you want to take the risk
He’s yours.
Unless you’re willing to give him 20+ carries a game consistently then he’s a waste of time because all you’ll get from him is mediocre production and lots of complaining.

Agreed
Maybe in the right system he’d be worth it but you’re still looking at a possible suspension and Roger Goodell has shown he wont’ go lightly on players with discipline issues. Are you willing to take a risk with a guy whose name has been in the news 4 times since 2003 for the wrong reasons?

I guess we'll have to see how the rest of the off season plays out.
Valid points though.

LJ and TG???
What we need to do is up it to the second round pick, Edge and Leonard Pope for LJ and Tony G. get rid of some of our junk for some of their old guys they don’t really want.
Or something from left field, what about straight trade for TG for Karlos Dansby??? You know Calncy would love that. We haven’t had a decent TE since Jay Novachek, please bring TG to Kurt Warner. It would be the ultimate security blanket.

Not going to happen
Pioli isn’t going to take your “junk”.
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.

Unless they're
the "right’ junk.
As for a player for player trade, not going to happen, unless there’s a WR in it for the Chiefs as well as the average to above-average Dansby for Gonzo. He’s still very productive (which oddly enough is about at the point where he probably should be traded).

Tony G for Dansby?
Welcome to ROTB but I hope you were saying that as a joke. Warner’s never utilized a TE his whole career and we’d have to draft a ILB to be the starter.

Dansby is worth way more then Tony G
Not disrespect but Dansby is one of the top linebackers in the league at a young age.

I agree here...
Warner with a TE will be the same as Warner without a TE. Watch him in StL or AZ or even NY he does not use his TEs. He is a receiver guy. Get us a TE that can block and they will fit best with us, knowing the way the world works however now that I have said this Warner will get whomever the starting TE is next year a good 60 catches and make me look like an idiot.
I hate the new "protect the QB" rules, but its ok because it's still legal to chip the QB's fingernail polish, but if you tear his skirt it's a 10 yard penalty & an automatic 1st Down.

i think LJ is only good in a run first offense. he’s a volume back and that’s definitely not what we need here. the way our offense worked last year was edge would have 4 or 5 bad carries and we stopped running the ball at all, even though edge needs around like 10 to get warmed up. he was the wrong back for our system and even when he played well in the playoffs its because everybody thought we were going to go “pass pass pass”
i’m just gonna pray wells or moreno is still around when we make our pick

LJ BLOWS
We don’t want him. He would be suspended for most of the season anyway. Besides his contract would hurt us. A rookie would be cheaper and more effective.
