Jones-Drew in Red?
Ok I realize I have spent too much time imagining Cardinal stuff today but I am bored today and my clients are late showing for thier appointment. Maurice Jones-Drew wants a new deal and looks like he isnt that excited about coming back from running the Egyptian Pyramids to train with the team. Just a thought but what about a trade straight up Boldin for Jones-Drew? I would do that in a heartbeat even if we threw in a 4th round pick. We would need to get a (re)sign and trade deal done though. I realized its far fetched but can you imagine?!

not a terrible trade idea
I didn’t realize how young Jones-Drew was (just turned 24) and it’s not like he’s got a ton of miles on him already (530 carries in 3 years). I do wonder how much of his production is the product of a great offensive line and their system but I might make that trade anyways. Jones Drew fits our system very well considering he can catch the ball out of the backfield and is a decent blocker.
I wouldn’t throw in a pick though. It would have to be straight up or nothing at all.
Wouldn't be bad
If Jax would do this trade I would be all for it but I don’t see Jax doing it unless they have someone to replace him at RB especially since they let Fred Taylor go this spring. I think we have a better chance of getting their first round pick for Boldin then we do of getting Jones-Drew but again this would be a decent trade and Hightower and him would be the perfect 1-2 punch we need at running back.
Wants new contract
Just read this on NFL.com that he is also looking for a new deal at about what Steven Jackson got at St. Louis which is about 8 mil a year with over 20 mil guaranteed. Looks like both sides would have to have a new contract in place for this deal to take place.
give them Boldin and Edge for Jones Drew
MJD is a little fireball. I doubt the Jags will let him go.
Jones-Drew
I think about these things as well when I’m bored, but I don’t see this happening. It would be trading one big contract for another and I think the Cards are far more comfortable with the contract demands of late first or very possibly a late second round pick at the RB position right now. I also don’t see, as pyromnc pointed out, the Jags letting him go with Taylor being gone. Del Rio is obviously a huge proponent of a power running game himself. I like Jones-Drew a lot, but I don’t know that I like him at 8 mil/20mil guaranteed. For that kind of money he would have to be the featured back, and he has been a part of a platoon his whole career up to this point.
However, I won’t deny that the idea has it’s merits. He would seem to be a great fit into the Cards offense and is a betweent the tackles runner who would command an eight man front. Watching him light up Merriman in blitz protection a few years back was one of the most devastating blocks I’ve ever seen. I also like the idea of getting a player for Boldin in this scenario better than just an early round first. The Portis/Bailey trade worked out, I think this could as well.
I just don’t see Jacksonville moving him, though.
