Arizona Cardinals News: Anquan Boldin Fires Drew Rosenhaus
In what can only be classified as a surprising move, Anquan Boldin has informed the Arizona Cardinals and the NFL Players Association that he plans to fire his agent Drew Rosenhaus, according to ESPN. We're all very aware of the situation surrounding Boldin and his displeasure with his current contract, but no one is quite sure what to make of this recent development. Rosenhaus issued a vague statement:
"Regarding Anquan Boldin, let me say that I have great respect for him. I'm hopeful we can work this out and he can return to the Rosenhaus Sports family in the near future. We are proud to continue to represent his brother, D.J. Boldin"
For now the Cardinals have declined comment but it'll be interesting to see if this helps or hurts their chances to keep Boldin long term. The Cardinals are in organized team activities today so perhaps we'll hear something from Ken Whisenhunt or one of Boldin's close friends, Fitz or KW.
We'll update when more information is avaliable. Thoughts?
Updade #1: According to Darren Urban, Anquan Boldin will return to OTA's today although Urban questions the timing of Boldin's return. He also points out that this isn't the first time Boldin has fired his agent.

Now for the real shocker....
BOLDIN SHOWED UP TO OTAs! haha, just kidding but who knows. my resentment towards Q shrunk a little with the firing of his jerk agent
Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.
Am I the only one
that hears the “Hallelujah” chanting?
Am I the only one
that saw Drew’s underhanded statement about DJ, Q’s brother. Sounded almost like a threat to me.
+Infinity
Read that quote again:
Regarding Anquan Boldin, let me say that I have great respect for him. I’m hopeful we can work this out and he can return to the Rosenhaus Sports family in the near future. We are proud to continue to represent his brother, D.J. Boldin
“Rosenhaus Sports family” said like someone who actually believes he is bigger than the game and does a valid service for his cleints. I am now going to refer to hims as Rosenjoke. One year ago Boldin was well liked, by management, the fans and the league. While he is not FItz, I thought he had some potential to do endorsement deals along with Fitz. I can imagine the two of them in shoe or other campaignes along with Warner. They could have gone down as the best recieving duo on any time of all time for god’s sake. Working with Rosenjoke greatly limits endorsement $$$ because of the type of cliets who seek Rosenjoke out and the way he handles them. Maybe (and that’s a big maybe) all the posturing gets his clients an extra $1M a year, but at the cost of thier reputation is it worth it to guys already averaging $5.7M (Boldin’s averaged 4 Year extension number)?

I was wondering . . .
I thought Rosenjoke’s statement about DJ was more like saying, “Don’t forget to take him when you go.” Like I only took him cause he was your brother.

That's interesting...
I was wondering how many other Rookies signed on with Rosenhaus Sports? So you could have hit the nail on the head.
I wonder what it actually means though
Boldin still wasn’t at OTA’s today so I wonder if he’s just pissed that Drew didn’t force a trade or new contract or if he’s just tired of the fight?
Maybe I’m just jaded b/c Dansby fired his agent and that was bad for the Cards…….
One more thought…..where does this leave Dockett? He’s been riding Q’s coat tails on all this contract mess but can he stand alone and cry???
I for one am very disappointed
Drew Rosenhaus is a pillar of the community and a stand up guy. I feel sorry for him, he approaches everything he does with honor and integrity and I feel bad that he has been disgarded in this way. The guy has children to feed for crying out loud.

Maybe he just needs a friend.
I know. Maybe he should adopt a pitbul. I hear Harrison has one on the market.
rec'd for sarcasm!
hahaha!
I haven't seen that many tear-stained dollar bills since my dad hired a stripper for my uncle's funeral.
If it's true, great
But why do I have the feeling that if Q gets his contract, we’ll be seeing Rosenhaus again?
+1 I was going to say something to this affect...
I think it’s a ploy to improve Boldin’s image with the fans and media. Rosenhaus isn’t stupid and knows that getting the fans to back Q is the best way to forse FO into a move.
Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?
Hold on, hold on, what if the Hurricanes name was Whisenhunt?
Daaaaaaaaaa Cards, Da Cards Da Cards Da Cards Da Cards!!!
I don't think so
The agent gets the % if he is the registered agenet on the date the contract is signed. If Rosenjoke is not the guy at that time he gets nada.

Has Boldin come back from the dark side?
Drew must find the rebel base before he loses more clients.
Rosenhaus tactics aren't working anymore!
Q has realised that Rosenhaus has lost his influence in todays NFL because of his confrontational attitude.
Time to change to an agent that gets things done by working with the teams to get to a solution not a conflict!
Truly a happy day for every Cardinals fan!
When a player of Q’s caliber starts to see that Rosenhaus’ tactics don’t work and ditches him it sends signals to players and agents alike. This may be the window that Whiz and the FO need to take the stand that they’ve been wanting to take with all players contracts (see Pittsburgh’s point of view).
Totally Speculation...
None of us know what’s been going on behind the scenes between Q, Rosenhaus and the Cards, so all we can do is speculate.
I’ll drink to that. Here’s what I think may have gone down:
Rosenhaus drew up a contract for Q which didn’t take into account the possibility that Boldin might overperform and therefore wind up underpaid. (After all, after a couple of years, they could always blow up the contract Rosenhaus-style). Only it didn’t work. The Cards refused to bite.
This left Rosenhaus in the position of having to whine and twitter about why – if teams can cut players, why can’t players tear up contracts? (Answer – “Because the NFLPA and NFL set things up that way”).
Which in turn left Rosenhaus exposed to the criticism: "If Boldin is upset about being underpaid for overperforming, he only had Drew to blame – since Rosenhaus could have (and should have) included incentive-clauses in the contract to cover that contingency.
That plus rumors that the Cards had made two offers in Dec. (averaging $8-mil a year) but Rosenhaus never bothered to returned their phone calls.
Pure speculation on my part, But if any of this turned out to be true and I were Anquan, I’d fire Rosenhaus too.
(Note – I agree with a previous blogger: the idea of a “Rosenhaus Sports Family” terrifies me).
CHICKEN LITTLE WAS RIGHT!
very good point

I hope all the Cardinals, and all NFL players for that matter, look no further than Boldin and Dockett’s situation to see that Drew may fight like hell and go to bat for them but he might not the best guy to negotiate your contract. That’s two very clear cases of young guys who got early extensions and then quickly out performed their contracts and an agent has to consider that possibility in the negotiation process.
