J.J. Released by the Broncos
The Denver Post is reporting that JJ was cut after failing a physical. He had knee surgury in the off season. With the drafting of Moreno, Denver had four well paid RB. JJ, Moreno, Buckhalter, and Jordan appears to have been to many and it appears that J.J. was the odd man out. He had signed a 4 year 10 mil contract. Tough break for J.J. Hopefully he will find another landing spot.

$1.8 Mil for signing a contract & "failing a physical"
I’m pretty sure he will get to keep the signing bonus, which I beleive was $1.8 mil. Between Cutler and this I would be scared if I was a bronco’s fan right now, very scared. I wish somebody would give me some $$ to fly to Denver and “fail a physical.”
Somebody will pick up JJ for another $1.5 Mil or so as a 3rd down back/return guy, maybe it will be da Cards.

This has nothing to do with JJ's knee
and everything to do with drafting a RB when the stable is full. I’d love to see JJ back as a Cardinal, he’s a definite upgrade over Wright. Think the FO would sign him for $1.5mil and cut Wright?
what the 'ell is going on in Denver?
This is shades of Al Davis cutting someone right after signing them. Overall this is probably good news for JJ considering the depth that the Broncos had at RB and I hope he lands some place that he’ll have a significant role.
wait, wait, wait......it's starting to make sense
According to the Denver Post, Arrington had off season knee surgery but his knee hasn’t gotten better and now they’ve decided that he needs microfracture surgery. That of course means that he’ll miss the entire season and his contract was conditional depending on the health of his knee. The situation with his knee was the original problem with his contract and why he didn’t sign right away.
All in all, this is terrible news for Arrington considering his free agents dreams have been completely dashed by a gimpy knee. He’ll probably be forced to take a one year contract for pennies next year in hopes that he can prove he’s healthy.
I agree with your original post
Denver knew he needed surgery when they signed him. Guaranteeing money before surgery was the hold up with the original contract. JJ wanted the signing bonus and the first year guaranteed $3M, Denver did not want to guarantee anything. The two sides agreed to guarantee the $1.8M signing bonus.
I agree it sucks for JJ if he needs surgery (although this could be a spin to make the Broncos FO look a little less stupid for the deal) but he still got $1.8M for signing a contract less than 3 months ago that he has now been released from without ever stepping on the field. So the question Denver fans should be asking is “What was the FO thinking when they signed JJ with any guaranteed $$ before the surgery?” “Why sign 3 RB and then draft a RB in the first round all before they knew JJ’s surgery results?” “What the ’ell is going on in Denver?” & “How do we get Shanahan back?”

It depends whcih article you read I guess
see http://www.denverpost.com/sportsheadlines/ci_12461192?source=rss Parties agreed to a guarantee waiver for right knee – Paid 0??
Peter King says paid $100,000 http://www.rotoworld.com/content/clubhouse_news.aspx?sport=NFL&id=1576&majteam=DEN
http://www.cardinalsgab.com/2009/03/07/rb-arrington-finally-flies-to-the-broncos/ $1.8M guaranteed
or http://broncomadness.com/2009/05/27/broncos-cut-j-j-arrington/ $1.8 against cap for release.
or http://footballrelativity.wordpress.com/2009/05/28/arrington-axed/ $100K for release
Which leads me to my question, teams apparently have to send the contracts to the league, are they avaialble for viewing online somewhere?

The Knee....
The combination of (a) our reluctance to re-sign him and (b) the strange way Denver went about signing nearly every available RB along with JJ is just one more example of the Jim Mora mantra:
“We may think we know, but we don’t really know…”
Before we rush to judgment on some issues, we should consider that quite often there may be something going on behind the scenes that we’re unaware of.
CHICKEN LITTLE WAS RIGHT!
=(
Poor JJ anyone can run in denver, to bad he missed a great opportunity. Moreno and Buckhalter have the raines now!
not to mention that fatty Lamont Jordan
He is already familiar with Josh McDaniels system

Knee or Numbers
If it is micro fractures or anything else that will take serious rehab then JJ is out of luck for at least a year. If it is numbers of RB, and the Cards medical staff can show his knee is fine then I could see him coming back. If a healthy JJ comes back then you kill two birds with one stone- 3rd down and returner. I am guessing the knee is a legit injury that will take serious rehab.
MBN
Was this the injury he had in the Eagles game and played in the SB anyways?
