Byrd is a Bird!
How many TEs is that now, 80. Although it is only on a one year contract, Byrd will bring some competition to the position. He was highly touted coming out of USC and must still have something in the tank if we were willing to give him a shot. Now who do you guys expect to make the opening 53?

I think Whiz just likes collecting TE's like Gruden liked collecting QBs
but seriously, I have no idea which of these six guys make the roster. The only sure thing is that Alex Shor has no chance.
Becht will most likely be on
the opening roster, wouldn’t be surprised if the other 2 would be Spach and Patrick
+1
I think if Byrd can prove himself in those first couple of games he may be able to bump Becht off the list. I think Spach and Patrick are the two who should be shoe in’s to stay on the roster.
Byrd Lives...
The signing of Byrd has all the earmarks of “throwing enough mud on the wall in the hope that some of it sticks.”
That’s OK. Nothing else seems to have worked at the TE position. You’ve got to figure that – among Pope, Patrick, Spach, Becht, Tuman and Byrd – someone will step up or a lightbulb will go on somewhere.
The scary thing is how much better our already lethal passing attack could become with a nice, big TE option for Kurt W to hang his hat on.
CHICKEN LITTLE WAS RIGHT!
I think whoever blocks best gets in.
With the WR’s we have the TE is really an escape valve in the passing game. Now with Wells joining Timmy in the backfield I think Whiz will want to use more 2 TE sets and get the power running game going early. As we saw in the playoffs if we can get the running game on track then teams will find it difficult to cover our receivers.
I've read much about Byrd's ups & downs and off field issues
But I haven’t heard much about his playstyle. Is he more of a blocker or receiver?
This is scary to me
At USC, he has missed time due to torn knee ligaments, torn toe ligaments, and a broken knee cap.
That being said, I am alright with him as a safety valve if he has really fully recuperated. I don’t think he could ever be our main TE in the Cards scheme, but if he is healthy he could create some interesting sets. We’ll see.
When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome again.

Thanks
Sounds kind of like another version of Patrick, but with more upside.
