Anybody want another aging pass rusher....Greg Ellis?
Ellis might be redundant considering that we've already got Bertrand Berry but Ellis might be capable of being more than just a situational pass rusher if his snaps are limited. With the advancing age of Okeafor, Haggans and Berry though at least Ellis would fit right in.
Who knows if he'd be willing to sign a short, cheap deal that the Cardinals would likely favor but his 20.5 sacks over the past two seasons are a bit intriguing.

No interest
thats exactly why they wont be interested. Age is the only factor, he could be a great mentor for Cody Brown and the other converted OLB we drafted had we not already had 3 old farts. Because we have them I think the Cards would have to release one of those guys to sign him and I dont see that happening.
Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

Probably won't happen
Due to his sack totals I found myself thinking about him in Cardinal red but I agree with sc464, I don’t see it happening either. Ellis went kicking and screaming into the 3-4 when Parcells implemented it in Dallas and my guess is that he’ll end up signing with someone who will primarily use the 4-3.

very true
He’s got a long history of being a titty baby but the best season of his career came at the age of 31 when he moved to OLB so hopefully he’s smart enough to see that he’s best suited for that role. Who knows what kind of contract he’s looking for (got a history of whining about that as well), but on the cheap I might be interested.
Berry’s perplexing absence is another reason for this mention but I’m working on a fan post about that.

Catch 22
I agree that talent-wise, he’s be an upgrade from what we currently have and if we could get him for the minimum I think it would be a good value. The biggest downside to bringing him in is his past complaining. If we’re going to bring in an established vet to possibly work with a guy like Cody Brown I’d much rather it be a leader, a good locker room presence who adds a lot to the team with the attitude they bring.
Ellis strikes me as a “me” guy as opposed to a “team” guy. Could just be a mis-perception on my part but if it’s correct he’s not someone you want to have around when things start going wrong.

he would upgrade the position!
he’s better than what he currently have. if we can get him for the vet’s minimum, i’m all for it!

I think we should at least try.
Beause with him playing OLB, he probably knows the 3-4 D somewhat. Add in Him, Haggans, Dansby and Okeafor for the linebackers and have Dockett, Berry and either Cody Brown or some other pass rusher to the D line, man oh man, are we gonna have ourselves a defense.
Dont forget the secondary is looking really good right now.

Cody Brown won't be on the D-Line.
He is an OLB.

Good call hevchv, also...
Berry will play mostly as a situational pass rusher, either at OLD (oops, freudian slip, OLB) or at an end in a 4 man front or nickel package. He won’t be on the line in our base defense.
Docket, Watson, and Campbell are the likely starters, with Robinson probably the top backup at all 3 spots.
