Informal: '09 NFC West Division Predictions

It's the end of June and there's a number of factors still yet to be revealed about the rest of the competition this season, but what's your "gut" prediction for the final standings in the NFC West for 2009?  List season record and divisional record and you can give an explanation or not — we'll re-examine these early predictions just before the season and give everyone an opportunity to explain any adjustments to their prediction at that time.

Arizona               10-6     4-2

San Francisco    9-7     4-2

Seattle                  8-8     3-3

St. Louis             5-11    1-5

Star-divide

Cards lose on the road to SF and Seattle; Niners lose to Cards and 'Hawks on road; Seattle loses to everyone on the road; Rams sneak one out against the 'Hawks at home.  More importantly I have the Cards going 6-4 against the rest of the schedule which is a three-game improvement over last year and the kind of "progress" I expect to see out of this year's squad.  As long as the Cards have one home playoff game I like their chances of making another long playoff run.

11-5

VS San Fransisco – WIN (as always it will be a nail biter)
AT Jacksonville – WIN (convincing win, MJD chews up the cards in the first half, stuff in the second)
VS Indianapolis – WIN (surprised? Colts D will be surprisingly soft. Game will be a shoot out)
BYE
VS Houston – LOSS (A Smith will look lost swimming in all the $ he made but Texans will pull it off at the end)
AT Seatlle – WIN (big win to make up for the prior weeks loss)
AT New York G – WIN (this will be a trench battle that will give both oline & dline confidence)
VS Carolina – WIN (crowd will win this game)
AT Chicago – LOSS (cards look lost in a surprise snow storm)
VS Seattle – WIN (Seahawks defense shows scary signs of life)
AT St. Louis – WIN (just chalk it up already)
AT Tennessee – LOSS (defense gets run over)
VS Minnesota – LOSS (again defense gets run over sparking Bill Davis to make some adjustments)
AT San Fransisco LOSS (49ers sneak one past us despite the Cards playing a nice game)
AT Detroit – WIN (Cards are back on track and cruise to a bruising victory)
VS St. Louis – WIN (slopy but victorious)
VS Green Bay – WIN (Grimm gives a half time speech about when he played against the Packers they pissed in their water cooler, team gets fired up and blows them out in the second half)

Whoever said drinking koolaid was bad for you?
Sunday Febuary 7th, 2010
VS Tennesse – WIN (the cards faithful celebrate in the streets for 3 straight days)

Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

well I figured you'd two would be together anyways right

so if one goes down, I’m betting the other one jumps in and takes a swing at the cop. lol

by Bezekira on Jul 1, 2009 6:05 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hypothetical

I would probably be the one getting arrested. Which means Booger would be the one swinging on the cop. Assuming he connects…we both get off :)

by badmatty53 on Jul 1, 2009 10:12 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

continuing the hypothetical

Assuming you’re getting cuffed, I’d imagine you boys have consumed a few adult beverages so is Boog’s accuracy still good enough to connect or does his wild haymaker miss it’s mark and he sprawls to the pavement while the cop reaches for his taser?

Phillies?

Not really going out too far on a limb with Pitt and LA, but if you correctly picked the Phillies then I give you props.

Correction.

Before the playoffs started. And I didn’t predict the winner. I predicted my teams to make it to the big stage and lose.

OK

Cards 11-5 5-1

Hawks 8-8 3-3

49ers 7-9 3-3

Rams 4-12 1-5

Kurt Warner will lead this team back to the playoffs. Beanie will make a lot of teams angry they passed on him. The defense will continue to be strong against the run while improving against the pass. This team will win more games on the road! Coach Whiz will be in the running for coach of the year, and will get a contract extension.

Seattle will start off H-O-T with John Carlson and T.J. Houshalamalon making Matt H. look like a kid again. Half way through the season Walter Jones will go down with a shoulder injury and the Hawks will crash and burn. Seneca Wallace will finish the year as the starter for a Seahawks team that will once again miss the playoffs.

San Fran will play tough smart football. Shaun Hill will be solid with his new recievers. They will ride Frank Gore all the way to the I.R. Vernon Davis will be cut after the 2009 season. Mike Singletary will throw his pants out the window of his car on the freeway.

The Rams will begin to develop chemistry with it’s new core of young players. The lack of recievers will hurt their offense as Steven Jackson will see 8 and 9 man fronts all year long. Coach Spag will resort to many trick plays to attempt to gain some offensive yardage. The Defense will be improved, however too much time on the field will lead to the inevitable late season breakdown of an over fatigued undersized unit.

I'll reserve my full week by week prediction for now but here's my NFCW record look

ARI 10-6 5-1
SEA 9-7 4-2
SF 6-10 2-4
STL 4-12 1-5

I’ve got us splitting with Hawks and sweeping the Niners and Rams. The Hawks split with the Niners and the Niners pick up their second division win at home against the Rams. That of course leaves the Rams lone division win as a home victory over the Niners.

I think our divisional record is pretty much guaranteed to be worse than last season

Seattle and San Fran are both on the upward curve, pretty much where we were in our first season with Whiz

by Irishcardinal on Jul 1, 2009 7:45 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

+1 to Hawks prediction.

We will have some hiccups during the middle part of our season with Tennessee, Minnesota, and at San Fran but we should finish strong like last season and maybe even make the big push to be in Florida again in February (kind of funny how Florida has had 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls counting this next one).

I am having a lot of trouble figuring out . . .

whether the team from the playoffs, the first half of the regular season or the last halfof the regular season is going to show up this fall. I can see a record anywhere from 6-10 to 12-4. As a Cardinal fan, I have gotten used to the preseason optimizism so I’ going for it, after all preseason is the time for bold predictions:

Cards 12-4, 6-0 in division again, Cards lead the league in scoring and takeaways.
SF 7-9, 3-3
sea 7-9, 3-3
Rams 3-13, 0-6

by Drullin'OverDaCards on Jul 1, 2009 3:59 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Division sweep

I see 10-6 if the division is swept.

I do not see them beating the Giants and Bears on the road.

I am fifty fifty on beating Jacksonville on the road in week two.

only other non division road game is against the Lions…could be trap game after playing at 49’ers the week before and at home against rams…but I would bet the house that the Cards cover…just something about 0-16.

At home for the COLTS, TEXANS, PANTHERS, VIKINGS and PACKERS I see an easy 2-3 at home outside the division.

Many people see the Sea Hawks as the biggest division challenge, but I see Matt Hasselbacks best days behind him……Many people see TJ Hoosh as making the difference…..but I see Seattle as a place where wide receivers go to die…..reference Dion Branch, Nate Burleson .even when the Sea Hawks made playoff runs it was dreary days for the NFC West, and often playoff flukes…. such as the Steve smith Bowl where the panthers went to Chicago and beat them in a bizarre game , making the NFC Championchip game a home game for seattle. Also remember Tony Romo fumble as kick holder…….What makes the Sea Hawks sooo great?

by shady_sanchez on Jul 1, 2009 8:14 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Ouch 5-3 at home

I can’t see them winning the division if they don’t take at least 6 games at UofP

+1

5-3 at home would be really disappointing. I could see them 4-1 in those five non-division home games.

Which team is goning to show up this fall?? I wish I knew.
