Knowshon Moreno or Beanie Wells?
Hey guys, big fan of your site. Apologies if this isn't the right place to post this, but in my fantasy football keeper league I just made a trade to aqcuire the first overall rookie pick. I've narrowed my choices down to Moreno or Wells pretty much, but I wanted to get some advice from fans who know more about the team and player than me. I can keep rookies for up to five years, so immediate impact isn't the only criteria, but my team is expected to be a contender so I do want a player that will help this year.
My question to you is who would you take in this situation, bias aside, for your fantasy team? I have basically standard scoring except there's .5 PPR, plus 3 bonus points for 100 yards rushing or receiving and 2 more bonus points for 150 yards rushing or receiving.
Moreno should be mostly a full-time back with some good receiving value, though McDaniels rotated backs a lot in New England, Moreno is probably not as explosive as Wells, and the Broncos shouldn't be nearly as good as the Cardinals.
Wells has a lot of ability, but may not start right away and Tim Hightower may steal third down/goal line carries, Wells has durability issues, and is in a pass first offense.
I'm leaning towards Moreno but I just wanted some more opinions. I'm posting this on Mile High Report as well to see what Broncos fans think. Any help is very much appreciated. Otherwise, keep up the great work on the site!

A tough call
Coaching changes in Denver makes there traditionally strong running game more of an unknown. Arizona’s running game has traditionally stunk regardless of who carries the ball. Projecting each team’s long term success is a big ??? considering the flux on the O-line (and really, how much longer is Grimm not going to be a head coach?). So, considering the historical trends and unknowns of the future, Moreno is likely to have more TDs at minimum than Wells. Yards….who knows but still likely Moreno. I drafted Timmy in the 14th round last year so he only costs me a 12th to keep this year so that may be biasing my thinking a bit as I suspect he’ll be the goal line guy this year as well.
We all leave footprints in the sands of time, just watch out for the discarded fish hooks!
I did go with Moreno
Thanks for the help.

Wells of course
whens the last time you heard of a back in denver for 5 years.
hightower will lose the starting job three games in, when, wells collects more yards in less carries in those three games.

moreno
because beanie wells is injury prone and moreno will likely get more carries since his offense will need to run more (kyle orton vs. kurt warner). opportunity is huge in fantasy football.
I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.
Moreno.
He’s the best pound-for-pound RB in this past draft, the Broncos’ have a pretty good, young o-line, and it’s not like they have many other options. In my opinion, he’s the most complete running back coming into the league since Tomlinson. So, yeah. Go with him.
Wells
Poor choice taking Moreno for a keeper league. You may get a bit more out of Moreno this season only because he’ll get more attempts with passes out of the back field but Wells will be the primary ball carrier in AZ come next season. Not that Moreno won’t be primary in Denver but Defenses will be keying on him due to lack of an efficient passing attack this year and likely for the next couple years as whoever they get as a rookie QB next year will take a few years to get comfortable and to give the young O-line time to mature and meld together as a unit. Unless he’s another Adrian Peterson and excels even with a 1 sided offense he won’t do enough to warrant being much more than a 3rd RB or occasional Bye week replacement. Wells will be a solid number 2 RB by next season, and I wouldn’t discount Wells from being the goal line back this season just yet, he probably won’t be in on 3rd downs though.
