Hats off to the Management!
You've got to hand it to them this offseason. It may not look like this is a drastically improved team but Whiz and Rod have dealt so well with the sticky problems so many Superbowl losers face, particularly on the contract front.
Firstly they let Q destroy his reputation in the media and proceeded to deal with a player of the utmost loyalty and who hasn't made any noise: Adrian Wilson. They essentially ignored Dockett's belly-aching and refused to pay Dansby the ridiculous money he was requesting. There they set a precedent, which was if you keep schtum and your demands are reasonable (remember those players signed their original contracts of their own volition), you'll get your money. Result - Q fired the reptilian Rosenhaus, Dockett pledged to come to camp and though Q might get a contract after all it would seem, the Cardinals are not showing weakness by doing it at this stage.
They let the Texans grossly overpay for Antonio Smith and resigned Kurt Warner, albeit after a time. I think our secondary might well be in the top 5 in the league with the signing of Bryant Mcfadden. In the draft as well, obviously the front office can't claim credit for Beanie Wells falling to us, but what a great pick. I also particularly liked the passing on Michael Johnson in the second round and the selection of Cody Brown, though I have to say I am quite uneasy about our pass rush. Then the selections of Rashad Johnson and Greg Toler were very canny choices with regards to the less than certain futures of Antrel Rolle and Bryant Mcfadden in the secondary.
I just thought I'd compose a small ode to the front office. Most articles seem to be talking about how the Cardinals will deal with the coaching changes as opposed to how the new front line has handled things (personally I think it's a good thing both Haley and Pendergast are gone - Pendergast was simply not good enough and Haley was too pass-happy and a bit of a tool).
Thoughts?

This team, on paper, looks better than it was last year and should be a scary proposition to everyone in the NFC.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

These are the reasons you are notone year wonders.
I think your biggest risk is at QB. With Warner you are a top three offense. Without him maybe notaverage. That’s a lot riding on someone in their late thirties.
Any different opinions?? I’d like to read them.

As far as that goes, I do have one thing to say.
I think even if we had Rex Grossman as QB, we could still produce offensively. With Kurt we are definitely one of the best, but I think Leinart could step up and be productive.

Further questions??
I see Warner’s biggest advantage is being able to make reads and deliver the ball in like three seconds.
Is the OL up to the task of a normal QB who takes 6 seconds? Is your run game productive enough to provide balance so opposing D’s aren’t one dimensional??

Warner’s football IQ is incredible, keeping him healthy is probably the biggest key to a successful season for us. Hopefully we’ll begin to establish a more effective running game this year (steps we have been taking) but until we prove that Warner playing at a Pro Bowl level is essential.

Thats my superficial take on your situation.
I wouldn’t profess to know as much about the card’s as the regulars. I do know Grimm’s coaching will improve the OL a little more with an additional year and Beanie Wells should be a good runner.

Accurate Analysis
An improved running game will obviously take the pressure off Warner and give us the kind of balance that could make our offense virtually unstoppable. Our strength and conditioning coach is getting Beanie down to 225 and is basically doing the same kind of training for Tim Hightower to improve his speed as well. We’re pretty excited about seeing this in action. Another thing we’ve debated, which I’m still skeptical about but like what I see in terms of his attitude is how well Leinart is coming along. I still see issues with his mechanics and arm strength, but he’s reportedly worked very hard this summer and hasn’t complained at all about going in as the backup so hopefully the others here are right and he’ll be a very effective backup, if needed.
I hate to bring it up but I have to ask, how is Steeler Nation reacted to the gold-digging bitch who is dragging Big Ben’s name through the mud?

At first it was an Uproar
Seems to have quieted down this weekend but maybe people are enjoying a summer weekend. All of the reaction has seen this as the gold-digging type. Some going so far as to say Ben would never do such a thing as rape.
All I can say is first Ben is no KW. He’s like Leinart. Plays the field in that other sport of the Spring Break variety. Second I doubt any fan knows him personally and his public face could be significantly different than his private personality. Third it’s rather goofy the methods this um Lady is going about her grievance. IMO there really is no way for the fans to know what went on. Though similarities have been pointed out to both Kobe & Duke Lacrosse.
Several other sites I peruse seem to think he is guilty and should go to jail as well. More I think from the stand point that they would have a better chance of beating the Steelers. I know last year our season went better with Brady on IR.
My football opinion is Ben should play similar to last year. As a group our WR should be same, OL a bit better. Ben relies on his football instincts. I don’t see that changing. I don’t think he will be able to concenttrate enough to make that next step in football IQ us fans are wishing to see.
Alot of my fellow fans and IMO a realistic scenario has Ben being Brady’s equal or superior within the next couple years IF IF he can get that football IQ

CARDINALS TO RETURN TO SUPER BOWL IN 2010
I totally agree with the fact that Pendergrast sucked, and that Todd Haley was an egomaniac on a collision course with being “Gone.” Gosh Help the Chiefs, as “this aint dodge city, and Haley’s not Bill Hickcock.” As they say. Still with Whiz calling the shots, Kurt staying healthy, Matt being ready to take over, the Defense improving, and “Q” having a stellar year deserving a HUGE New contract, instead of being on the DL all the time, and belly aching. I Love the Cards, and have been a BIG RED FAN since they were in St. Louis long ago. I have hopes for them. I don’t necessarily wish to face Pittsburgh again in SB44, but I WELCOME it, as I think we’d beat them hands down, in fact, I expect the Cards to win 11 or more games and sail through the playoffs, as the NFC is in a shambles, my take, and the NFC East simply has a bunch of money stealers and not quality players. The Cards have Confidence, and with Edge gone, and Beanie on top, plus the new blood and coaches, I’m thinking attitude and swagger will create some kind of dynasty for this franchise as long as Whiz stays in command. My prediction, one Day Kurt Warner will go down as one of the best QB’s to play the game, and Larry Fitz should end up with 2 to 4 rings, and go down a the BEST PLAYER to ever play THE GAME beyond Jerry Rice or anyone else…Go ahead and laugh, but I’m telling you, anyone can throw the ball to Fitz anywhere on the field and he catches it and GOES.
SO, great blogging to all, and no sweat guys, the Cards will sail, records will be broken, and we WILL WIN THE SUPER BOWL THIS YEAR….Mark my words.
Later all!

great to imagine such a season...
though perhaps not the most likely unfolding of events, but I do think no one really appreciates just how well this year could go for us. we’ve got a stellar coaching staff and we even have the potential for a very dangerous running game (trust me hightower and beanie are going to work some serious magic). we have talent across the board and motivation up to our eyeballs. i can picture us going 8-8 just because we always play close games but equally we could go 11-5 which is something no one is acknowledging…if we can play like we did against carolina, no team can stop us…easier said than done obviously
