NFL Reinstates Michael Vick
According to multiple sources NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has "conditionally" reinstated former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick. Vick could be playing in NFL games by October and Goodell has ruled that he can sign with a team immediately and will be able to participate in all preseason practices, workouts and meetings. The catch though is that Vick won't be eligible to play in the first two preseason games and he won't be able to play in a regular season game until at least week 6 (Oct 18-19). The decision to fully reinstate Vick at that time will again be made by the commissioner. In a letter to Vick, Goodell stated:
"Needless to say, your margin for error is extremely limited," Goodell said in a letter to Vick. "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you and to dedicate yourself to rebuilding your life and your career. If you do this, the NFL will support you."
Several teams have already come out and said that they are not interested in Vick and I can't imagine that his absence for the first five games of the season will help his appeal to teams. How do you feel about the Commissioner's decision?

No way.
There is no way that he deserves to play again. Not with plenty of talented college kids out there who would do the same job for cheaper.
Reasonable decision
I think before guys like TO go around complaining about Goodell’s decision to extend his suspension, they need to realize the NFL could adopt a policy that states anyone with a felony conviction could be automatically expelled from the league. It would basically be the same policy that virtually every employer in the “real” world adopts, either officially or unofficially.
Having said that, I do think there some merit to the idea of having paid your debt to society and all that, and that he should be free to pursue a line of work now that he’s been released. I don’t get to into the whole, “deserves” to play thing because his ability and the team who may sign him will decide if he deserves a roster spot or not.
I had this debate recently with a friend of mine, and one thought I left her with is do you really want this guy coming up with his own line of work? I doubt the dog community does. The football field is probably the safest place for society to have him at (obvious tongue in cheek comment there).
To me it’s still all a moot point, I don’t see anyone signing him anytime soon. I think he’ll go to the UFL (or whatever the upstart league is called) and burn out there.
Vick is good for the NFL
before he was arrested, he was the single most exciting player in the league. He wasn’t the best, but he probably put more butts in seats than any one player has since. I love dogs and think what he did was awful, however what other purpose does Michael Vick serve on this earth other than to play football?
I bet you there are at least 5-10 teams that would sign him….. IF…..
if he can prove that his skills have not completely deteriorated.
Look at the Rams. Can anyone honestly tell me they would not be a better team with Michael Vick on their roster? I doubt he will ever be a starting QB again, but I would be willing to bet that he could get 10-20 snaps per game on a few of the offensively challenged teams out there.
because he can’t play a full season until 2010 at the earliest, I doubt he will come right back to being a superstar. With some time to get back in shape and get his head in the game I could see him returning to a form that would once again give defensive coordinators nightmares.
We Are Not Worthy!!!!
Goodell (maybe we should call him God) handled this masterfully. Remember his job is to protect the business of the NFL. No way was Goodell gonna let the UFL get it’s hands on Vick. Goodell keeps Vick and all that publicity in house, but doesn’t have to worry about him on opening day of the regular season. The team that sign him also gets to pay minimum vet money, cause they only get him for part of the season. Goodell gets to keep Vick on a short leash (sorry for the dog pun) and can easily dispose of him if he doesn’t toe the line, "I had to give him a second chance." And if Vick makes the most of his second chance, Goodell and the league reap the benefits of that story as well.
I also loved how Goodell let it leak what he was thinking about doing last week to get reaction from the public before making the official annoncement this week. No way this story gets out without Goodell wanting it leaked. He is a benevolent dictator (if you took too many hits to the head when you played football look it up here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benevolent_dictator).
We are not worthy to be fans of his league!!!
PS the poll is really poorly worded in my opinion. I originally wanted to choose absolutely because I thought Goodell was perfect. Then I read the second part and I agree that Vick has served his debt to society, although this, to me, is a totally different issue then NFL suspensions. I ultimately went with absolutely, for the fact that Goodell was masterful.

If I were Vick...
I would say f**k the NFL and run drugs across the border for the cartel. Literally run…They could strap him with the same amount of weight as his pads and a football and he could run it across the border. Seriously do you really think there is a border patrol agent who could catch him. Anyways, thats my two cents.
Hadn't thought of that
It would have to be more profitable than his dog fighting ring as well.
Very entrepreneurial.
