Dockett's Major Announcement
Editor's Note: A big shout-out to bc for posting this; my family holds you in the highest regard, especially my5-month old daughter who can bang on the keyboard to her heart's content after I finish this line. ~~~Hawk
Darnell Dockett announced earlier today that he'd have a "major announcement" on his Twitter at 5:15 AZ time. Rosenhaus confirmed on his own Twitter account that everyone should pay attention to what Darnell had to say. This got quite a bit of national play on profootballtalk and Mike Sando's blog on ESPN.
Lots of things went through my head, and I don't think that any of them were good. Is Dockett going to announce that he is holding out of camp via Twitter? Is he going to demand a trade? Did the Cardinals re-do his contract BEFORE Boldin? None of these options seemed good to me, so I was bracing for the worst.
Turns out Dockett just wanted to announce a meeting he had with the team, and said the following:
"I am happy to announce that after meeting with the team recently, I have full faith and confidence in the Cardinals organization and I am looking forward to a great season. From the first day of training camp and on, I will not let my contract issues distract me or my team from reaching our goals-. I also look forward to playing with my teammates and defending our NFC championship title and I appreciate the support I've received from all my fans this offseason. - WE WILL WIN THE NFC WEST.
FYI to all, No this was not a DREW ROSENHAUSE call or idea, THIS is how I feel and I'm sticking to it. Thanks agan to all the DDOCKETT FANS"
I am really glad to hear that "Fart Box" is going to be in camp, and more importantly, is not so upset with the organization that he'll cause a problem.
So in summary, is this huge news? Not exactly. But in this sloooooowest part of the football year, I'll take it. I'm getting antsy for training camp to start already.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

... STFU and GTFO Dockett
My god man, you are under contract for millions of dollars. If you want to cry about money then quit your job, give me your money and try to go find a job right now. Fuck that bullshit.

Next big date is July 15th
and Mr. Dansby’s situation will become clear.

That is going to be interesting
Glad to hear Dockett has come back to earth for a while. I honestly don’t think Dansby’s deal is going to get done in time. He’ll play for a one heck of a paycheck this year and then be a FA next year. Leaving no room to work Boldin’s contract, meaning expect training camp theatrics.

I hope not
I hope Boldin doesn’t cause too much trouble in camp. I know he’s unhappy about his contract, but I’m pretty sure he realizes that his image took a pretty big hit over the past few months with the way he handled his demands (and which is why I am guessing he fired Rosenhaus).
My hope is he’ll handle it just like last year, and say “Yes, I want a new contract. No, I’m not going to let it affect my play, and we’ll work things out”. Hopefully they can get him extended in the next offseason, with one year left.

I agree, and I hope Boldin’s new agent is able to help him become a better professional and work his new contract behind the scenes outside of the public’s scrutiny. I think he’ll get his deal next year, and if DD has a good enough year they may even redo his contract then, however the precedence is being set that if you stay quiet and work hard good things come in your final year.
Let’s see if that holds true.

I’d certainly like to see that. As stated before, having it be clear that the team doesn’t renegotiate contracts before their final year has worked extremely well for other teams. I realize that the winning helps players want to hang around, but honestly, when was the last time that a Steeler complained their way (at least publicly) out of town?
I’m no expert on Steeler history, but I can’t think of it ever happening.

I did some quick googling to see if there has been anyone recently, and I honed in Plaxico, but really that was more of an issue with his complaining about not getting the ball enough and then dropping some of the big plays while he was a Steeler. But he actually left in Free Agency, so I have to agree. The system seems to work. Dare I say, go Steelers?

check out Hines Ward
He made some small waves prior to his ‘one year remaining’ off season and I think he even held out of camp for a couple of days. In the end he did the right thing but I do agree that they’re system works very well. Players understand that everyone is treated equally and eventually, for the most part, they fall in line.

Burress
I think Plax is a perfect example of the kind of player that gets weeded out by the Steelers’ system.
He is very talented, but he wanted a ton of money, which they weren’t going to pay him. He didn’t get redone, and went on to be great (and stupid) with the Giants. The Steelers were able to use that money to keep their core guys (Ward, Harrison now, etc.).
Overall, I’m very happy to see the Cardinals headed in this direction. Even if it eventually costs them Boldin, I think it will be best for the club in the long run.

It's a Good Sign...
Words, commitment actions and, yes, a little bit of luck, go into the making of a successful football season for a pro player.
As such, those words by Darnell were timely and important.
While it’s not always true in the NFL that words are backed up by commitment and action, in D-Dock’s case, I’m assuming he’ll make sure they will.
As for luck – according to the late Branch Rickey – “Luck is the residue of design.” Go git ’em DD!

this is good news indeed
if Dockett was given a raise i doubt he would play hungry like he did in the playoffs/superbowl last year. By the end of the season, i’m sure he will be among the best 3-4 ends in the game.
Championship!!!!!!

And Hawk--
I’ve got a one year old who has ripped lots of keys off of the keyboard of my laptop during his “typing” frenzies. I know what that’s all about.

Why I try to "sneak" as much as I can in at work...which is harder and harder to do lately.
Thanks for getting this up, bc.
