Arizona Cardinals Power Rankings Round Up

After their dismal performance on Sunday, you can be sure to expect a slip in the overall power rankings of the Arizona Cardinals. Last week they were around the 13-19 range in the power rankings. They had just come off a road win against the Jaguars and all seemed good in Cardinal-land. You can throw that assumption out the window along with any kind of national respect from the media. Let's take a look at this week's most recent power rankings.

Yahoo team ranker - This little ranker is actually pretty interesting. It gathers data by have you pick the winners of match ups. It continues asking you match up after match up, and based on all the yahoo users data, it compiles the rankings(which seem quite accurate might I add). The Cardinals are ranked 15th.

ESPN - 19(18)

The bye week comes at a good time because Kurt Warner is hurting and the Cardinals have much to figure out.

Yahoo - 18

Who’s in bigger trouble – Larry Fitzgerald's brother, or the Cardinals’ offense?

Fox Sports - 19(15)

BETTER THAN RECORD: Welcome to your reality check, Super Bowl losers. Arizona players and coaches have a long bye week to think about their ugly 0-2 start at home, including the free passing clinic conducted by Indy's Peyton Manning in Week 3.

What If Sports - 23

(Whatifsports utilizes football simulation engine to present the most comprehensive and unbiased ranking possible of all 32 teams. WhatIfSports simulated every possible match up in the NFL 100 times, and used the winning percentages from those nearly 50,000 games to evaluate all teams based on their current rosters and depth charts.)

Walterfootball - 21(20)

Sports Illustrated - 20(21)

Where's the defense that helped spur the Cardinals' playoff run last January? Arizona is getting gouged through the air, and it's headed for a very long season if it can't improve upon its 31st-ranked pass defense through three games (280.3 yards). This has the makings of a lost season in the desert. You can just feel it coming.

Cbs Sports - 18(17)

That Super hangover looks very real. They have not played well, especially on defense. It's hard to believe that is the same defense that played so well in the playoff run.

Blame the media, anyone?

In all honesty, the Cardinals never show up when they are favored to win games. I’m not sure what the deal is, but all 3 outcomes have been “backwards”… we were favored over the 49ers because its the home opener; we were supposed to lose to jax, due to the east coast road record; and we supposedly had the edge on indy due to the injuries. Not to mention, the same thing happened during the SB run too. THUS, the Cards need to somehow turn on the blinders and not worry about outside expectations if they plan on putting together a good string of wins anytime soon.
